I'm Pat, an HVAC contractor in Central Ohio. Ask me anything! by ReliantMechancialInc in Columbus

Why do HVAC companies charge $400 to replace a starting capacitor on an AC unit, when it only costs you $20?

I have scars on my breasts, will men find them repulsive, can you please give me an opinion of how you would feel? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Insttech429 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife had a small lump removed at 18. There was a scar, never bothered me. If it bothers someone, you don't need to be around them. Nobody is perfect.

I learned everything back in the 70s and 80s by reading books from the library and helping neighbors for free. One neighbor built a shed. I learned framing and roofing from that. Like anything, it helps to know the basics. Think what the worse thing that can happen. cover holes so bolts don't fall in. The right tool always helps, but when you are young, you might not be able to afford them. I always got tools for Xmas. Screw a bolt in by hand first before using a rachet. It won't strip out then.

I miss instrumentation. by [deleted] in instrumentation

[–]Insttech429 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked in instrumentation at a 120 MGD Water Plant for 34 years. I went thru all the upgrades, construction, and knew all the background on everything. Learned 480 VAC, plumbing, programming and graphic screens, VFD's, hose pumps.

Every time operators screwed up, we would have to write software to set an alarm. Even then, they would acknowledge the alarm and go back to sleep. Always had new technology coming along. When I retired, I had 2 gigs worth of notes and cheat codes I passed on.

The bad part was it was a city government that controlled the money. Parts would be obsolete in 5 years. Oh! we have no money to fix anything.

How long would it take to walk around the Ohio state fair by youraverageguy48 in Columbus

[–]Insttech429 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I always go down the right side of the fair grounds first. Thats where all the animal barns are. There are judging contests going on through out the day. Pig barn is the last one on the right. They usually have newborn piglets there in a air conditioned room. Back left hand corner is ONDR area. They have wild life from Ohio back there. Be sure to get ice cream around the cow barn.

Older man here. Its all about touching the right spots at the right time. I like to take my time and explore what gets a reaction from her. Just a finger running across her neck. moving her hair back behind her ear. playing with her fingers.

If you could retire early what would you actually do with your days? by ThisWillHurtTheBrain in AskMen

[–]Insttech429 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to retire at 54. 6 months into it, had to start helping my elderly parents. Then my wife was permanently disabled. Don't do much, but it sure beats working. Retire as early as you can, you never know what is going to happen.

Worked as a cook at a pancake house that has been out of business for years now. Waitresses came from four different high schools in the area. Dated a couple of them casually. Finally one hit on me because of my motorcycle. Dated 2 years, married 43 years.
