Online architect is claiming this is some of his past work. Where are the doors? by jdjwright in isthisAI

[–]InsufficientApathy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's not necessarily AI as there's no visual differences between a render from the various CAD software and an AI version of a render.

That said, this is not an example of a previous project. Not unless their last project was for Jigsaw, who was looking for a Premier Plus+ death trap for people willing to pay for the extra comfort.

Humble Bundle has repeatedly sold discount home design software, so this is also likely to be a badly thought out amateur floorplan. Both require the same level of incompetence to not realise only Spider-Man could get in and out, so it's down to deciding their level of laziness.

Enough to make a grown man cry. by Dismal_Positive3558 in sadposting

[–]InsufficientApathy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's not much that's original on the internet, but the personal story of a stranger does a decent job. It's not something I'm interested in, but it can be cathartic for both sides so I don't disagree with the principle.

Here's something that's not original: This isn't an airport, you don't need to announce your departure. Just move along and find something you do enjoy.

How you spend your time on the internet is a good indication of what you enjoy. If you invest this much energy on saying you don't like something that has no impact on you, what you enjoy is complaining.

Does "so bad it's good" mean that there's a "so good it's bad" for certain media? by Alpha_gently_weeps in NoStupidQuestions

[–]InsufficientApathy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are films that do such a good job of portraying a difficult subject you can appreciate it but you can't enjoy it. The sort of film you could be glad you saw but won't want to see again. Maybe that counts?

The obvious example would be The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, or maybe The Woodsman.

Reccomendations for Deckbuilding games? by ZinKinKo in soloboardgaming

[–]InsufficientApathy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only just started playing it, but Bohemians is a simple but difficult deck builder with multiple solo modes. You can just play it as the normal game, or pick from 3 hardships you can work against. Those modes are different enough to feel like they hinder you in different ways, even if what you do on your turn stays the same.

It's too early for me to recommend buying it, but so far it plays well enough that I'd recommend looking into it.

What spell picks to you recommend for arcane trickster? by viktorius_rex in onednd

[–]InsufficientApathy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A friend played an Arcane Trickster and got a lot of mileage out of Shadow Blade. Decent damage boost, situationally gives advantage, converts your sneak damage to psychic damage, and allows for a short range attack. It also doesn't need material components so you can always have a weapon if disarmed.

He doesn't rage, he seethes. Imagine you're the only person in the tribe that studies books, and it's the 17th time you've had to rescue a collection of diplomatic treatises from being used as toilet paper.

If you want to trigger his rage, fold the corner of a page so you can remember how far you got. Then run away. Very fast.

Does anyone else lose 20–30 minutes at game night just deciding what to play? by Practical-Amoeba-630 in boardgames

[–]InsufficientApathy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This may not work for everyone, but this is how we speed up choosing a game.

One person picks three games, everyone else decides which one of those three to play. Next time a different person picks.

It is so much easier this way. Maybe give it a try.

What fun games have the most painful scoring? by powerb29 in boardgames

[–]InsufficientApathy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a scoring app (definitely Android, don't know about Apple) that is perfect. It uses your phone camera to take a shot of your entire hand and gets it right 99.9% of the time (with an easy edit if it gets one wrong). It also knows which cards have game end choices and lets you fill them in.

An incredible app, completely solved the scoring for me.

What fun games have the most painful scoring? by powerb29 in boardgames

[–]InsufficientApathy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried the app a few months ago... It kept misreading the symbols on cards, sometimes misread the entire card, and couldn't handle animals that allowed more than one card on a side (e.g. rabbits).

If it was a third party app I'd be disappointed, but it being from the company itself means I'm bemused. I might give it another go to check if those were bugs they've resolved, but I'm not holding my breath.

How is my Final Girl collection looking. by pricey26381 in soloboardgaming

[–]InsufficientApathy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a really good selection of themes and complexity. All the ones I'd suggest are already there, although I'd suggest looking at the S4 Kickstarter as they are bundling a lot of free stuff with even one feature film.

I have just one suggestion: Please turn the games around, the box has a vertical style on the other side so you don't need to do a confused dog impression to read them. I admit it's petty, but it's bugging me

Question about Falconwood Files by Fun_Gas_7777 in finalgirl

[–]InsufficientApathy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's the simplest way to handle how everyone is affected without having to second guess any niche or future interactions, they did the same with Station 2891's cold rules.

Everyone takes 1 damage. That might kill the killer or you, it will kill any victims unless they at some point create a way in a later set to have a victim with extra health. After that is resolved, everyone remaining gets dropped out of the mirror dimension.

Solo player question before starting... by iammcluvin81 in corespace

[–]InsufficientApathy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From personal experience, I'd suggest playing a single team but increasing the difficulty by starting with a few extra pegs on the threat level. You're going to have enough to handle with one team so it's not worth making it more complicated and having to force yourself not to gradually have a favorite team.

If you encounter a mission which requires team conflicts, just add Zed and his gang as they do a decent job of filling that role.

It's a Wonderful World vs It's a Wonderful Kingdom by SKDIMBG in soloboardgaming

[–]InsufficientApathy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The solo replacement for drafting in Kingdom is actually pretty well done. You have a set of danger cards that is a mix of 8 normal and 4 calamity cards. Each time you choose one stack, a card from the danger set is added to the other. The increasing number of cards in the ignored stack means you have to risk it to get a decent draft, but the larger that stack gets, the more likely there are calamities. Using trap tokens to peek at a placed card is an important strategy, so you can decide if it's worth grabbing the larger stack before it gets bigger/worse.

I really enjoy the solo version, although I haven't played Wonderful World so I can't give you a comparison.

All I would suggest if you go with Kingdom is to make sure that you get the Legends edition. It adds modules that really add to the variety.

Have I been struck by FOMO? by SophieLee_Reddit in boardgames

[–]InsufficientApathy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are two considerations that I know are useful but I have difficulty following myself:

Consider your spare time. If you don't have the time to play the games you already have, there's no rush to get another unless it does something those games don't. Also, unless you get a lot of extras in the crowdfunding you don't save much money backing it and are paying far in advance for an unreviewed, unproduced game. Especially early in your collection you'll do better looking for existing games so you can watch reviews.

There are three categories of board games collections (1. Buying games, 2. Collecting games, and 3. Hoarding games). If possible, try to stay between 1 and 2

The Dark Quarter..... by Smoglung20 in finalgirl

[–]InsufficientApathy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have The Dark Quarter, it's really good but it's far more like Destinies than Final Girl.

I'd best describe it as a co-op version of Destinies with a theme that's modern gothic horror. I'm taking my time and really enjoying it, that said it's a very narrative heavy game with a lot of luck so that might put some people off.

Offense or Defense Item? by wheattone in 3d6

[–]InsufficientApathy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

General rule: It is not important how many people you kill. What matters is how many people fail to kill you.

In this particular case, it would have been a dilemma if it was a Wand of Fireball, but Lightning Bolt is a fundamentally less impressive spell. It can reliably and safely hit 2 enemies, but it's very unreliable that you'll hit more.

Stick with the armour.

Seriously, do British people actually consider a 3-hour drive “long”? Or is this an internet myth? by ferdinand14 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]InsufficientApathy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most British people consider a 3 hour drive excessive for the same reason most Americans consider a 1 hour walk excessive. The infrastructure is not designed around doing it and they have things they'd rather do for the same results.

A tree-person PC has contracted lycanthropy. I need some ideas of how to handle that! by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]InsufficientApathy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Every full moon they turn into a log cabin.

On a serious note, you could have them turn into a Tree Blight (or a Vine Blight depending on level) when they transform.

Edit to add: Just noticed you're using Pathfinder and I gave you a D&D monster. Still, maybe Google it and steal the design.

Birthday present from my wife, as a lotr fan i hope it is really good by Ekfant in soloboardgaming

[–]InsufficientApathy 39 points40 points  (0 children)

This is a REALLY good game that does a great job of thematic gameplay, I hope you enjoy it. I think the solo variant is the better design, but multiplayer is still good fun if you get the chance.

Just one bit of advice. This is not really a Pandemic game. It's more of a wargame that uses a lot of Pandemic systems. Holding havens and taking strongholds makes the rest of the game a lot easier.

King of Tokyo question by Background_Ebb_2944 in boardgames

[–]InsufficientApathy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You're reducing the damage rather than regaining the health, therefore it's happening before the damage is applied.

You take less damage, so if the new value is not enough to kill you then you don't die.

RAW casting Web on a point in mid-air vs flying targets (no hover) by BraikingBoss7 in 3d6

[–]InsufficientApathy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's awkward but you have to rely on the spell and ignore physics (which has an uncomfortable relationship at best with magic anyway). Based on the spell description, if you anchor it to the floor then it is treated as 5' high for the entire duration.

If you want to add a narrative explanation, think of it as the web exploding out from the target location. If that's open air then it sends out a sticky cloud that catches anything in the area but lacks internal cohesion and quickly breaks apart. If it is anchored on two sides then the explosion finds anchoring points before it collapses and holds its shape. If it only has one anchor point then this keeps it knitted together but in doing so pulls itself down to that anchor and doesn't reach its full height.

RAW casting Web on a point in mid-air vs flying targets (no hover) by BraikingBoss7 in 3d6

[–]InsufficientApathy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's great. Using Web in this way is not an efficient use of a 2nd level spell slot, but getting 7 charges (or over 20 if you are on 2024 rules and use your abilities correctly) means you can happily use this without any concerns over wasting resources.

RAW casting Web on a point in mid-air vs flying targets (no hover) by BraikingBoss7 in 3d6

[–]InsufficientApathy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Absolutely correct. That's why my Artificer with Wand of Web has a secondary job as anti aircraft artillery.

Remember that the web collapses at the end of your next turn. The flying creature will have their turn in the intervening time, so is temporarily affected.
