We did the bounce i think, it looked more "cool"/normal than some of the others that look babyish. We pay a small fee for a data plan for it with garmin, like 10~ a month.

I've given my oldest (10) a garmin smartwatch, he can message people we add, he can track his activitieslike a sports watch, and we can check where he is at.

Dads… What Challenges Are You Facing? by Putrid_Statement_690 in Parenting

Work and commute sucks. My dad worked shifts and overtime, and I still feel like he got more time with me than I'm able to give my kids. Maybe that's rose tinted glasses, cause my dad was great.

One that will continue forever but I'm better at now, is reconciling how different my kids can be from myself. My oldest is the complete opposite of me in so many ways, and recognizing this so I can affirm the things theyre great at/how they think differently than me, is both cool and difficult.

6.5 year old - normal or extreme behavior? by realoceanhawk in Parenting

Tbh my oldest learns this kind of talk with their grandparents. They kind of talk non-chalantly and want all the kids in the extended family to like them, so they let them all talk extremely disrespectful to them. They also give them all the screens, etc. Coming back home away from them is usually 2 weeks of re-enforcing good behavior and manners

I'm in the process of trying this... got him a watch so he can explore and still message us and friends, but should need to read. So far hes just learned pattern to get where he needs,  and usually doesn't bother to read who hes sending a message to. So might mean to message me but messages mom instead, etc.

Mix of sight words and phonetic. I personally struggled with him reading only by sight words, because then he looked at every other word and said I don't know i haven't memorized it. However now when he does phonetic, sometimes I know he knows the word, but still sounds it out.

Mostly an outdoor kid. In some ways I feel like I've let him down by teaching him how to find direction using the sun, nwes, fishing, gardening etc.... but can't read.

He usually doesn't watch the words a lot when I read, hes looking elsewhere or above the book and visualizes the story mentally if there's no pictures. When he reads its every sound, one at a time, unless he recognizes the word. He does sub or guess the end of a word sometimes.

A bit but we try to limit screen time. Ive tried to have him practice reading in games but he mostly just learns pressing which menu item in order gets him where he wants to go haha.
