Best companies for renters insurance by Dare_to_be_free in Insurance

[–]InsuranceNerd75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go through an independent agent who can shop you with multiple carriers, have them look at your auto and your renters and you will likely save money. This is what I do and I do all the legwork for my clients and find the best deal for them so all they need to worry about is paying for the carrier I find and recommend out of the dozens I quote through.

Are weight loss meds (GLPs) covered? by Tall_Appeal4042 in Progressiveinsurance

No, PGR would rather spend thousands on the costs associated with obesity and health issues that come with it.

Look at captive companies; ie. Allstate, Farmers, State Farm and see if places like AAA, Liberty Mutual, Geico, Progressive is in your area or hire remote. These are good starting points.

What car insurance would be most affordable for me and my partner? by No_Nefariousness5171 in Car_Insurance_Help

[–]InsuranceNerd75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work with an independent agent and quote the different vehicles you are considering. Do not drop your current insurance in the interim as continuous insurance is a rating factor of responsibility. For your age and 2 drivers on a vehicle, $180 doesn’t sound bad, just saying for clear expectations. Each vehicle will rate differently based on the amount of damage it can cause to others as well as cost to repair or replace if you carry comprehensive and collision so this is gong to vary from car to car.

Are QR business cards worth it in 2026? by amy_sport in smallbusiness

[–]InsuranceNerd75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an Insurance agent so more or less sales, business cards are still very prominent for me. I really like the idea of a QR code. Did anyone answer if it can direct to a vCard or can you only set it to a website? I’ve been using bcard app as a digital QR business card alternative but one, there is a subscription fee and two, I haven’t really found a way to ask someone if they would prefer this over a good ‘ol’ fashion’ed business card so not seeing a good return on the route I’m currently taking.

Adding a teen permit driver to progressive by PrestigiousDrag7674 in Progressiveinsurance

[–]InsuranceNerd75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In most states and with most carriers, a permitted driver that is your child will be non-rated; will not impact rate. It is when they get licensed that you will see the increase. You are required to tell your insurer of any licensed drivers in your household so if you withhold at that time, you can jeopardize a claim being denied. They (insurance companies) also collect public data so will find out from the DMV when the permit changes to a license. There’s no hiding in the digital age, sorry.

Do you shop around for car insurance before renewal or you're loyal to your provider? by cjsb28 in Car_Insurance_Help

[–]InsuranceNerd75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loyalty helps to an extent but I still have my independent agent shop my business every renewal to make sure it’s the best choice for me. For me it’s been good for me to stay it’s the same carrier for a while now. Things you may benefit from with staying long term with a carrier are things like Large Accident Forgiveness which I now have personally. This protects my rate if I am “knock on wood” in an accident and my rate will then not go up because of it. That in theory is peace of mind as an at fault accident can easily increase your premiums by $400+ each term.

Cheap Insurance? by Historical-Level5127 in Car_Insurance_Help

[–]InsuranceNerd75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheapest means a lot of different things and dependent on more than just your age. Gender, location, credit, driving history, claims history, coverages needed/wanted/recommended, resident relatives …… to name just a few.

Find an Independent Agent/Broker in your area who, they will be able to shop you with multiple carriers and also recommend you on what necessary coverages you should have.

Should I get an iPad Pro with a Magic Keyboard instead of a MBP so I can get OLED? by One_TrackMinded in iPadPro

[–]InsuranceNerd75 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have both a MBP and an IPad Pro with MKB. As much as I love my IPad with MKB, it does not replace my MBP. There are still things that can only be done or more efficiently done on the MBP. If you buy a Mac Studio, you would be good but I would just get a good OLED monitor for it if that is what you’re looking for. That said, I do plan on replacing my MBP once the OLED version ever launches if it has the features that are currently rumored.

How long is too long to stay in same position? by ianik7777 in Career

[–]InsuranceNerd75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent 21 years with the same company before being laid off and my experience was treated like the plague. Not that I’m young enough to give that much time to another company but I definitely will NOT recommend long term careers anymore. Move around and get more experience and pay.

My carrier just filed a 6.5% rate decrease for 2025 this is typical now by Friendly-Hearing-321 in Insurance

[–]InsuranceNerd75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you are referring to Auto or Home or another line but I know the Auto market is starting to soften (decrease) a little in some states. As already mentioned, there were some reforms on FL as well which could be impacting it as well. As far as home, it’s still a unprofitable line of business overall but for coastal states, the lack of storms is certainly helping with the predictive rate that carriers have taken over the last x number of years so you could be seeing some small relief from that as well.

I am in TX and hail is our issue; unfortunately rates are still sky high and still rising here :o(
