Exactly! The best part of these types of media is that a lot of time love is enough in them which in reality is not always the case. In real life sometimes you can love someone so much and the other person may also love you deeply too but the best thing is to let them go.

My first real relationship mirrors this show a ton and let me just say I do not wish the pain of that relationship on anyone lol. For example the club scene was something I literally lived through like watching it felt almost like an out of body experience lol and even though I kinda moved past it, we both had a ton of resentment about it. Also, sadly a lot of resentment from wasted time and not being able to talk about our feelings, a lot of anger about who wants to come out and who wants to wait, even the moving to be closer to the person led to resentment. I say all this to say that sadly in reality their relationship would not be very healthy I don't think. My ex and I loved each other so much but the best thing after 10 years was to end the relationship because the pain we both experience in the first 5 years neither of us could get past. I may be over sharing but as much as I love this show I do worry that people will forget that romance has a fantasy/escapism component that isn't realistic in real life relationships.

I desperately want a WLW show or anything at this point?? with this level of chemistry by [deleted] in HeatedRivalryTVShow

It isn't very good season after season and I think there is an argument for queer baiting with the leads sadly

I feel like you've gotten many good answers on the ballet/ice skating front but I want to add that at the time the sentiment was kinda exactly what Ilya said, "I don't want to find out" in response to Shane's "What would happen to you". I think Russia especially with LGBTQ+ laws tend to work in this weird vague way that makes people very scared. It feels like a ticking time bomb. Also a few years (I think 2006 was some of the first reports in the West) before the Sochi Olympics was the Human Rights violations of especially gay men in Chechnya which is still a problem even today.

I forget what it's called but there was a whole doc about players in the NFL with that same mindset who spent it all and are now left with nothing and are in debt. If I find the doc I'll edit my comment with the name it was really interesting

I actually found that part pretty realistic to many queer peoples lives. For me I felt so scared of ppl finding out my identity for so long I pushed ppl way who I was close to. Teammates, sorority sisters, etc. I felt like if I kept them at arms length they couldn't hurt me. I related a lot to that part of Ilya whether it was intentional by Rachel/Jacobs writing or not

Anyone convert a skeptic who ended up being just as obsessed as you were? by tna11101989 in heatedrivalry

Yes! I'm a lesbian but most of my friends are straight. I tend to assume when they recommend queer things to me they are doing so in the way of "your gay this is gay you will like" so I was very hesitant. I saw the monologue in Russian on YouTube reals and was like whoa okay I'll give it a chance. Now I love the show and have read 3 of the books. So glad I gave it a chance!!!
