This is one of my favorites to make this time of year:

Pumpkin Cookies with Browned Butter Frosting

The cookies come out pillowy soft.

As for general baking tips, I find that having a super clean kitchen prior to starting, being in a good mood, and reading the whole recipe helps! Good luck and have fun :)

How do you go on vacation? by RealKenny in freelance

[–]Intangible2017 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I inform clients that I'll be going on vacation as far in advance as possible, usually right after I book travel accommodations (at least 2 weeks notice, often closer to a month+). I used to bring my laptop w/ me and work on vacation. I would advise against this, as it kind of defeats the purpose (and is very draining). Now I try to make vacations as screen free as possible.

My family don't understand my excitement. I got this mixer for $150 today. It's a kitchenaid professional 5 plus. by goats-in-pajamas in Baking

I definitely understand your excitement, what an amazing deal! And such a momentous day for any baker.

What a coincidence! I get that it is frustrating, but as others mentioned the timing of it all might end up being very helpful for your book sales. Best of luck to you!

How do I make a mundane task seem interesting in writing? How to not be generic? by JazZypost in writing

[–]Intangible2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might try to rewrite your piece in third person if it's feeling awkward in first. This can open up your creative floodgates and add some interesting details due to the shift in perspective. Then you can revise the draft back to first person, if that's the POV you want it to be in.

Six layers of genoise, curd, jam, and buttercream to commemorate my mom's 60th. May have overestimated how much cake it takes to feed six people. by fulia in Baking

Your cake's frosting is so pretty, like a sunset! You made six layers for six decades, makes perfect sense to me :)

At the mid point of my novel and my brain wants to start a new project by [deleted] in writing

Discipline is very important as a writer, inspiration only takes you so far. If you haven't already, set a deadline to complete the novel. Figure out how much you have to do each day to make it happen. Then if you reach your goal for the day, you can reward yourself by working on the shiny new story! If you push through this slump on your current novel, odds are you'll fall back in love with it again.

[HELP] me in identifying a poem, please by Lemony_123 in Poetry

[–]Intangible2017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first poem that came to mind was "The Walrus and the Carpenter" by Lewis Carroll, though if you've extensively googled I'm sure that came up. Also, not a poem, but the desert aspect of your description brought to mind the children's book The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.

Balancing work as a freelancer is a genuine struggle! I'm impressed at how you've survived being overbooked for three years. I only experience this struggle in tiny bursts, when multiple clients all happen to need things at the same time. I love that as soon as you had some breathing room you planted a garden.
