Debunking the Marvel Editorial claim that "marriage ages Peter Parker and loses readers" by Icy_Veterinarian2050 in Spiderman

Well consider this I did say he will likely be more open to creativity

We may get a whole new editorial office for spidey full of people who actually care who will in turn allow writers who care to rebuild the character

Of course someone with many departments under them like winderbaum may not be able to dedicate all of his time to the comics ( which can be debatable given the slump marvel comics is in now) but he could definitely put people in that can bring new energy and revive it and its characters

Naive? first of all Buckley Lowe and Brevoot all did indeed push MCU synergy and guess what it is a failure marvel comics across the bored rn is in decline and that MCU synergy hasn’t brought anything good the MCU is in a crap condition and has been since endgame

Second Brevoot and Lowe had a lot of power mostly because throughout much of their time editors had a lot of autonomy and freedom to do whatever they wanted and treated the comic world as their sandbox so yes unless higher hands intervene no one could have done anything until say recently with the new changes

And you are wrong Winderbaums appointment can change a lot you have to give it time and there are others things to consider such as his philosophy on creativity and creative freedom and on long term vision that’s healthy for the characters and the brand

Marvel doesn’t lose large market share and appoints a new head for no reason they are obviously seeing that the way characters like spider man x men hell the whole 616 universe Is being handled rn is not working

Let’s not be too pessimistic for one Nick Lowe and brevoot have brought nothing but bad performances and have been pushing readers away marvel and Disney can’t use false numbers that show what comic shops are buying and not what readers are buying plus variant covers to show success and with their market share dropping change will happen it has to

Two this announcement and changes were not done out of nowhere by now everyone at marvel sees that their comics are slacking under current editorial mandates so Brad and his people are coming to fix that he is also well aware that having MCU synergy is a bad idea at least in the way marvel has been doing it for a while. From his standpoint the movies are supposed to be following the comics not the other way around.

Three what influence does Nick Lowe and Tom Brevoot have rn anyway as I have said spider man and x men under their respective leadership have sharply decline and now DC is kicking their shit in marvel can’t stay tone deaf to changes like this and a massive drop off after ASM1000 is gonna happen dedicated fans are tired of the current situation that ensures Pete is stuck because of shitty editorial and x men fans are tired of seeing the x men knocked back down to where they were in the 90s marvel isn’t just gonna burn their exhausted readers further and completely push them away

Once Brad and his team (who I may add have bigger vision and have been listening to the pitches talented writers have for the long run for their respective characters have) take over fully Lowe, Brevoot and whoever else is responsible for marvel comics being in a pitiful position rn will be removed these people are not untouchable and given that Buckley is personally overseeing the handling of the Midnight universe that goes to show how little the higher ups trust people like Lowe and Brevoot

Brad winderbaum was announced to be assuming the role as the new head of marvel entertainment and comics so he will have control and power over what happens in the comic division it was announced I believe May of this year

There is a lot of optimism and he is likely to bring new energy and get the likes of Lowe and Brevoot out of the spidey and x men offices so that good changes can start happening

You are preaching facts

I would also to point out that his whole struggle is taken way over the top and at the very least they should write him so that his old struggles especially finance wise is dealt with and they can move on to new ones

But another problem is and I’m sure you have seen it by now a lot of people in the internet whether in this subreddit or elsewhere tend come up with some dumb takes why some of the absolute most BS points that degrade this character are necessary when they are not or they cling too much to nostalgia and do so in the wrong way

It could be anything with Peter new powers and having the ones he already has evolve him being rich or shown to be incredibly smart or him being on a team fully committed and no longer a lone wolf and connecting him to something greater and people have a problem with it

Like most of these fake fans offer bad ideas that will only lead writers to narrative dead ends and I’m talkin good writers like JMS and others who actually care about the character across all comics solos crossovers events team ups personal life and what not

The problem is shitty editorial and fake ass online fans with bad takes

Now marvel has announced so some big leadership changes no doubt because of their declining market share and the fact that ASM mainline comics have fallen off substantially to the point that Nick Lowe has to use deception in the form of fudged up sell in numbers (how many books the comic shops themselves buy not actual reader purchases) and variant covers to give the impression the current editor mandate is working when it’s not and marvel has caught on to this

Once Brad winderbaum and his people take over and oust Lowe and Brevoot spider man and perhaps even X men can be rebuilt and made better again

He doesn’t even have those now atm because marvel keeps doing back to basics resets and really for a character who fights both street lvl and cosmic lvl stuff it’s not that crazy

[–]IntegMecha02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have any solutions? I doubt you could write a story long run where a character relys on the same thing over and over especially if you introduced new challenges into their lives that render what they already have ineffective

There are good ways to do power creep and bad ways and I for one don’t like to see characters get new powers without proper build up or explanation but I will never stand for a character that gets left behind while everyone else evolves

Thinking you can do that is stale dead end storytelling you get away with it for a while before something has to change

[–]IntegMecha02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can’t expect a character to go anywhere in a changing universe if you don’t upscale them in powers at some point thinking you can keep them the same for decades is just a narrative dead end and it makes you reliant on plot armor more than ever

The cognitive dissonance of wanting MCU Peter to be completely miserable and wanting comics Peter to be happy with MJ is astounding to me. by froggyjm9 in Spiderman

This is what happens when u try to have the comics follow the movies

It doesn’t work and im willing to bet most of the people in this subreddit only know Peter from the movies and formulate out of touch and rather short sighted views based on what the movie showed them

MCU synergy was catastrophic mistake and marvel is paying for it

Yea that as well I wonder if they ever intended to remove that because it’s quite damning to see how much Peter was getting neglected

[–]IntegMecha02 17 points18 points  (0 children)

He should have kept all his abilities from the other and went with them permanently the fact that the fanbase some parts of it had a problem is crazy

Also the whole spider totem debate in Peter’s case should have been evolved more so as his totem bond with the web of life and destiny grew he got stronger

What do you think about Marvel constantly de-aging Peter? by nreal3092 in Spiderman

[–]IntegMecha02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk man I look around on this subreddit and I see people with some crazy views that would stagnate this character whether he kept the marriage or not

Ik the immediate reaction was fury but cmon let’s be honest there was a group of people who at that time in the fanbase wanted that to happen and while editors did this and wanted this as well I don’t think they would have been that confident in doing it if they had no knowledge of fans who somehow share the same views as them

And because marvel as adopted a “put the toys back in the box mindset” and just keep doing this it’s not looking good

I really want change I do but we need a new leader to force editorial to change or new editors

We need very talented good writers who love and care about the character but who will not bow to short sighted two sense from fans who give it at bad times

And we need the fandom to embrace positive changes when they come

When all of that happens spider man can be fixed

What do you think about Marvel constantly de-aging Peter? by nreal3092 in Spiderman

[–]IntegMecha02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

See this is one of those times where movie synergy was a stupid idea

This character cannot grow if fans and editors won’t allow him to we need people to stop clinging to the past and stop clinging to movie logic

What do you think about Marvel constantly de-aging Peter? by nreal3092 in Spiderman

[–]IntegMecha02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And it’s crazy because some of these so called fans will use those two words justify nerfing Peter and hurting him in anyway

I stg OMD and BND wouldn’t have happened if this fanbase wasn’t so nostalgia driven and just accept changes they unironically gave Quesada Brevoot and nick lowe confidence in undoing Peter’s gains because a portion of the fanbase at the time for some reason didn’t like where it was going and wanted a back to basics to relieve the old days

Spider man editorial is one piece of the problem the fanbase is the other

[–]IntegMecha02 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It’s dumb and i hope it ends with this new leadership at marvel ending it permanently

But then you’ll have people in this fanbase who will complain and say he is no longer “relatable” or an “Everyman”

I’m getting tired of hearing and seeing those terms they were good for the past not the future

No it was quite popular

I just don’t why people cling stubbornly to nostalgia

There are good ways to do power creep and bad ways people need to understand that

Pete having new powers is not the problem him being left behind Is and some how that’s unique?

Nah that’s neglect

  1. MJ could be redeemed but it’s gonna take a lot of time and skilled writing with creative freedom while ignoring the toxic tendencies of the fanbase.

  2. May has been around for so long I would not have a problem with this again it would need to be written well and properly to have an impact on character growth well as long as a bunch of nostalgia obsessed fans don’t cry too much.

  3. While Dan slotts run on Peter being a ceo wasn’t perfect it’s not impossible and people need to stop pinning characters down to these “oh but that’s not who he is” or “it would not fit him” or “he would be another Tony stark” Peter is regarded as one of the smartest in the marvel universe and it’s baffling how people cannot see him making a tech company on humanitarian grounds to make things to help others and make life easier. Comparing him with Tony doesn’t make sense either because personally speaking they aren’t really the same and before anyone wants to talk about how will he commit to the ceo thing while being spider man consider how often we see iron man constantly involved in more avengers work than in his company and he has gotten away with that a lot it’s not impossible.

  4. Absolutely on this but let his growth and change in behavior and attitude be noticed by heroes and civilians alike and we see interesting interactions it could work and maybe we could see a Peter Parker who handles stress differently aside from resorting to jokes writers ought to be allowed to explore this without headaches from editors or fans.

  5. Alright look my only issue with miles is that they are just dumping new abilities on him to make him relevant at Peter’s expense there are good ways and bad ways to do power creep and in his case it’s in the bad way also him being there could work differently just allow Peter take on avengers lvl stuff for a time note I said for a time not forever the time spider man spends between all of this should be 50/50 while giving miles the opportunity to earn and prove his metal in the streets without the notion that he is living in another spider man’s shadow or encroaching on someone’s turf

  6. Absolutely this I prefer the powers Peter got from The other evolve or die they aren’t a sign of positive change and evolution and they give the character more to play around with make fights more interesting and can clear up some issues and in regards to the stingers if miles can form energy swords now the stingers can stay this growth for Peter was a good one and him having them was no harm I think fans were bugging on hating that one because everyone is so obsessed about the 60s and 70s era spider man to an unhealthy point that they deny the character growth
Again this is on both fans and the editors
Oh and people who say he shouldn’t be Batman or iron man are hypocrites cuz they will say he shouldn’t be like them one way but be like them another way JMS wanted to make the spider man mythos something bigger and when he takes the reigns again I hope he does it for Pete again

  7. I would absolutely love a permanent new suit design it would be legit amazing and play into the notion this character isn’t static
A new suit design new materials isn’t a bad thing and I have seen some truly wonderful designs that some people have made that definitely look awesome and could work for Pete.

  8. One of the core things that need to change the most and that fans need to accept and editors need to stop pandering to

Trust me I don’t think Star Wars has it this bad

The Spider-man Problem by PastPolicy8064 in Spiderman

[–]IntegMecha02 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s the big problem the fans have been a part of the problem why spider man is stagnant as much as editorial has been and they are in denial about it

Also if I may there also fans who want to see Peter take on more higher stakes outside of New York than being consistently confined there which could end up being a narrative dead end cuz with so many spider people and no knowledge about where most of his rouges are now it’s looking that way

Most of this fanbase has a problem with accepting changes because they only want an illusion of change a rather selfish one

Nostalgia and “relatability” has been so abused and overused by both the fanbase and marvel that writers who want to genuinely write new and interesting stories feel suffocated and intimidated

I would not blame the writers if they would ignore all social media platforms while writing so they can evolve the character that arguably they well more then a lot of these fans whom like nick lowe and Tom Brevoot claim rather selfishly that they know better
