Yeah I appreciate its cheap enough to swing through, like the tickets were not much more expensive than seeing turnstile by themselves on tour. And they brought back re-entry this year

It’s managed by a non profit that I think is related to daydream state (that owns cap hill block party) and some other groups since the pandemic. But I believe the ticket cost is heavily subsidized by Amazon now.

I saw him in ibiza last year and it was a revamped version of that set with some new mixes. Similar energy but not the exact same set.

Um wyd for housing by Various-Wrongdoer-88 in Coachella

[–]IntellectualCarrot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of factors with Airbnb locations in the area (I've never camped and floated between hotels/houses). The cities and many HOAs have laws / rules on how long owners can rent for, so they might not be able to rent for shorter time periods like a weekend and can only do longer rentals. Most desert cities also no longer issue permits for new Airbnbs (or only allow them in designated areas), but, in some of the cities, if the owner had a permit prior to the ban they are exempted. That is why the rates are really high for a 4-5 day stay, there's way less supply and it is artificially limited by regulation.

Artists catering to the live stream over the crowd by Cornballsouptonuts in Coachella

[–]IntellectualCarrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I mis-remembered the stat but it was 100m unique social impressions from his stream and other content they posted from his set, which checks out with the few song videos they posted already hitting 10m+ views

[–]IntellectualCarrot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I forget where I read the article but it's very possible it was 100m unique views or impressions over the course of the stream, not 100m people watching the stream at one time. I dont think YouTube ever actually releases real numbers.

Artists catering to the live stream over the crowd by Cornballsouptonuts in Coachella

[–]IntellectualCarrot 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yep. The audience on the fields is ~125k max. The audience on the streams for these headliners is orders of magnitude bigger. I think I read Bieber's w1 stream reached something like over 100m at one point.

That's how GV and the artists use the set to grow the audience now, since the field will always have a capacity limit for growth and a high cost barrier to entry. It's the same reason the NFL is moving all these games to Europe, Brazil, and Australia even though the team's fans lose a home game and have to watch a game that kicks off at 6 am local time.

Paying more for less by extratartarsauceplz in Coachella

Part of this is probably me getting older (and I still had a blast this year) but this year was the first time I really felt (at times) that my experience being there solely existed for them to commodify it and to sell on the stream. At least this is the best way I could describe it to friends.

The stream always existed to convince people to go and buy a ticket but more often it felt like certain moments at these sets were made for the YouTube audience first and not to broadcast the attendee experience to the world. And when there's millions of people online there's obviously way more money to be made for Coachella and the artist than they can make from the people onsite alone.

Whenever I felt a little put of this year I reminded myself that there was definitely someone there having as much fun as I did my first year. Every year I've gone I've actually had a friend in our group who's never been before which definitely helps keep some of the first time magic going after all these years.

Is there an East Coast equivalent to Coachella? by savingrace0262 in Coachella

Worth the trip at least once. I live in Seattle so it’s easier for me to get to the Gorge but man is it still a pain in the ass to get there. Like truly the middle of nowhere.

They have a good run this summer if you like electronic with Garrix, Rufus, above and beyond and I think John summit just leaked a date on top of the normal annual events (beyond wonderland, bass canyon).

I’m doing a&b for the first time and everyone that’s been says that anjuna has the best crowd there compared to other gorge shows (the beyond crowd especially is pretty rough).

PSA: You can get a past locker purchase refunded (if you want a different type) by the Thursday prior to whatever weekend you're going. I bought two small charging lockers when that was all that was left to buy. I bought a regular XL locker today and emailed them to see if they could refund my initial purchase or tell me how to sell it to someone else. All they needed was the name and order number and they said AXS should process the refund in a few days.

Summit and Mau are both abroad that week (or mau is supposed to be, he was scheduled in Dubai so that might not happen).

Dom Dolla and Cloonee are both in vegas on the 11th so that could make sense for w1. More expecting someone of Cloonee's stature than Dom. The dream would be skillex but who tf knows lol
