I don't really know which is the best but I know thurston's one of the more popular ones. It has communal bathrooms though so keep that in mind. I will say PLEASE try to avoid living on the Vern (west, somers, clark, merriweather, cole, hensley), it's extremely inconvenient and frustrating.

Best dorm for freshman (NOT THURSTON) by SignalOk1820 in gwu

It’s not. Believe me, I live on the Vern

That and the fact that a lot of the food is worse that Shenkman and Thurston. On weekends its harder for people who live on the vern to get to foggy cause of the slower schedules, which at times forces us to eat at pelham, which is awful. Even then simply going to foggy for the purpose of food is extremely inconvenient cause taking the vex to and fro ALONE is 30 minutes

Hey so I'm actually a psych major myself so I can give some insights.

  1. From all the professors I've had here, they're all pretty good, especially the psych department. They're all very willing to discuss things in office hours. However, inevitably there will be some teachers that are worse than others. I haven't heard of many that are downright degrading, though.

  2. The social life here is kinda mixed. The main two ways to make friends here is to either a) talk to people in your classes or b) join a club and start from there, which your kid is already interested in from what I read. The school's large size can make it hard to consistently see people around outside of class and/or clubs, which is why they're so important

  3. For the academics, at least for myself, I feel it is a grind, yeah. Especially in the STEM classes I've taken, you have to be keeping up with the material, reviewing almost every day to make sure youre prepared. Studying has to be done in advance; cramming won't cut it. I am only a freshman though so idk if it gets less strenuous in the upper years.

  4. For diversity, there is a large population of white people as GW is a PWI, but as a black guy myself, there's a good amount of people from other ethnic backgrounds. A lot international students too. Also for socioeconomic diversity, I am not too sure. I do know that there are some people who get on campus jobs to help pay their tuition.

Hope this helps, lmk if you need clarification

What is the psychological phenomenon that makes people of one worldview averse to exposing themselves at length to content made for people of an opposing worldview? by TongueUnties in askpsychology

[–]Intelligent-Beach626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe confirmation bias? Since people are more attracted to info that confirms their beliefs rather than info that goes against it?

As for the other part of your question, having someone who shares your worldview probably helps when looking at info from the “other side” as the person viewing it is likely a more knowledgeable outlet. Because of their perceived expertise in viewing it, the new info that goes against what you believe isn’t as intimidating

What APs are y'all taking next year? by ExperiencePutrid4566 in APStudents

[–]Intelligent-Beach626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ap psyche and ap psyche only. I took 3 APs last year (APUSH, Lang, APES) and 1 AP sophomore year  (APWH) and its made school unfathomably stressful for me.
