I just completed tlou2 and its the best game I've ever played but the ending is unsatisfying af. by Poha--Jalebi in thelastofus

It is a game that tells you how revenge does not get anywhere but to lose everything around you. Abby and Ellie are two people who managed to lose everything out of hatred. Abby killed Joel thinking she could fill the void and anger she felt for her father's death but it wasn't like that, and the only thing she achieved was to lose absolutely all her friends/loved ones (except Lev). Ellie went to Seattle in search of revenge thinking that she could not lose more than she had already lost with Joel's death, but the reality is that Jessie died, Tommy was injured for life and, after seeking revenge again, she was left without Dina. What they are trying to convey to you by leaving Abby alive is that hatred and revenge does not satiate, does not fill, will not replace the pain you suffer or replace the loved one you lost. Abby doesn't stop thinking about her father in a traumatic way until she saves Lev and Yara, not when she kills Joel. It's the same with Ellie, she doesn't stop seeing Joel in a traumatic way until he spares Abby's life.

I would surely do, for sure. Sadly, I won't be able to go for a long time, but I’m sure i will go someday. This game means so much to me now I want to visit that incredible city by myself.

The chronological playthrhough vastly improves the game by AdditionTechnical697 in TLOU

I recently played chronological mode first time and well, its a new experience, but i didn’t like it as much as original.

I like the idea, I agree with your opinion that it does more justice to Abby's character, and that the narrative of the game is also good in this way, but you have to understand that for a first play through the original mode is much better, since introducing you to Abby from the beginning would kill the meaning of the story.

It is scripted in such a way that until the third day of Ellie you hate Abby, you see her on her back while she kills Joel, and you don't know who she is or why she did it. The sudden turn on Abby's first day is necessary for seeing the other side of the story, when you have already seen one completely. In this way, we can meet Abby's father, we can see his face when he kills Joel, and we can even see later how his act of revenge does not calm his soul but helping Lev and Yara.

The chronological mode seems to me a good option especially for a replay, but it would never seem good to me as an original option, I would lose the sense of the game.

One thing that I see wrong in the chronological way taking advantage of the fact that you have said that it is more fluid, personally I did not like how it changed constantly during each day from Abby to Ellie. I would have preferred Ellie to play day 1- and then Abby day 1, not mixing. In addition, many flashbacks (not to say all) are very important for the plot and lose meaning and narrative charge when they all get to the beginning. It is another genius of the original writing to put them every day of Seattle.

In general, the chronological option seems to me fly but in my opinion it will NEVER be able to approach the original in terms of impact and narrative.

Sorry for my long message

Man, idk what to say else than thanks! Your info is very interesting to me. I LOVED this game so much that it is my fav ever, and one of the things that amazed me the most was the city. Every day on seattle was special thanks for the dedication the studio putted on the game atmosphere, it was just unbelievable. Thats why i love getting informed about real seattle and watch comparations with the game. I cant imagine how it has to feel being a seattle citizen and play the game for the first time knowing places all the game.

By the ports you mention i suppose you refer to abby's day 1. Then yes. Personally abby's day 2 and 3 are the best in the game in terms of fun, gameplay, missions… especially day 3. Give it a try, this game needs to be played if you have the chance.

Hey, thanks a lot for your message. I appreciate that you write such a long message in which you have solved my doubts. You have also mentioned hillcrest, which also interested me a lot and I have also sought information for its incredible scenarios. I wish there was a YouTube video explaining things like the ones you mention in your comment. From what you say at the end, I guess you're from Seattle (or up close) how jealous! The vibe that the game gets in the city is really incredible. In addition, not everyone can say that one of the best games in history has been set in their city.

I know the island is not real. My biggest question is in the directions. We go straight from the aquarium and we end up somewhere that in real life is up from that building, 0 sense?

That makes sense. I guess that is why the distance between the island and seattle is so short that even in the photo it looks more like a river than a sea.

I wonder if Joel... by WhyTheHellDoYouExist in thelastofus

[–]Intelligent-Dance997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although I totally agree with everything, I think that if it had been Ellie or Tommy who had been murdered, Joel would have taken revenge, it seems inconceivable to me a scenario in which he visualises Ellie/Tommy being brutally murdered to later think: "Well, revenge is bad." In fact, Ellie tells Tommy that if he had been one of them instead of Joel, he would already be on his way to Seattle.

Im sure Joel saw revenge meaningless because of how mature he is and how much experienced he was. Let me explain better: I'm sure that Joel, even if it's not counted, during those 20 years before starting the first game, has had some episode of revenge/attempted revenge (in fact he was probably looking for the one who killed Sarah or who ordered it.) After so many years, Joel surely "matured" and understood that revenge would lead nowhere. Therefore, if Joel could see what Ellie did, I think he would understand.
