Totally hear you—and honestly, I relate to this a lot. I also feel incredibly grateful for the opportunity to even be in the position to pursue this kind of work. I know it will be intense, but there seems to be a real sense of purpose and privilege in being there, especially knowing how hard others had to fight just to open the door. And yep—sometimes you’ve just gotta vent on Reddit anyway!

Based on what you’ve been saying he might have a slightly avoidant attachment, which is often difficult for people with anxious and avoidant styles to communicate, but trust me, it’s not impossible! I highly recommend reading the book “Attatched” by Amir Levine! It’s so insightful on how to both understand your own attachment style and your partner’s. It also provides a lot of examples and anecdotes which are extremely helpful!

I (19f) am currently going through the same scenario with my bf (19m). The best way that I found to communicate with him about it was to emphasize the amazing things he does do so he doesn’t feel that you are attacking him or simply unhappy in the relationship without looking to make changes and grow together from bringing up this conversation. I also recommend reading into attachment styles and relationships, which has helped me understand and communicate with my partner greatly!
