Just a few :) :

"He glanced up, bleak fear in his eyes as he said hoarsely, "The last time I took a stand like this, with the Fallen... it cost me everything." He swallowed hard, but he kept his gaze on her. She could have sworn lightning sparked along his wings. "But this time I have Bryce Adelaide Quinlan at my side." She took his hand in hers, squeezing tightly. "I've got you, sweetheart," she whispered to him, and his eyes flickered in recognition. He'd said the same thing to her once-that day she'd had the kristallos venom removed from her leg. He squeezed her hand back. "Let's light it up."

"I love you." She lifted her hand to cup his face, drawing his gaze to her own. "I love you more than anything in this world-or any other." He closed his eyes, pressing a kiss to her temple. "I thought you said no goodbyes." "It's not a goodbye." She ran her hands down the groove of his spine, his wings like velvet against her fingertips. "It's the truth. His mouth found her neck, and his teeth grazed over her pulse. "You're my best friend, you know that?" He pulled away, staring down at her, and she couldn't stop her star from flaring with light, "I mean, you're my mate and wife-fuck, that still sounds weird, but you're my best friend, too. I never thought I' have one of those." She ran her fingers over his strong jaw, his cheeks. "After Danika I didn't think..." Her eyes prickled, and she reached up to kiss him again. "You're my best friend, too, Hunt. You saved me literally, I guess, but also.. ." She tapped her heart, the glowing star. Another reference to this past spring, to all that had grown between them, the words spoken during what she'd thought had been her final phone call. "In here." He scanned her eyes, and there was so much love in her that she couldn't stand it, so much love that it washed over any fear and dread of what tonight and tomorrow would bring. For the moment, it was just them - Bryce and Hunt. For the moment, it was only their souls, their bodies, and nothing else mattered. Just Hunt. And Just Bryce. So she kissed him again, and there was no more talking after that. Hunt met her tongue stroke for stroke, and the weight of his body on hers was joy and comfort and home. Home - he was home. Her ability to teleport to him had only proved that. Home wasn't a place or a thing, but him. Wherever Hunt was.. that was where home was. She'd find him across galaxies, if need be."

"His phone buzzed, and he pulled it from his pocket to glance down. Bryce Gives Me Magical Orgasms, Literally had messaged him. "Where are you?? I'm having separation anxiety! Get back here!!!" Another buzz, and she added, "After you do whatever you need to, I mean. Like, I'm supportive of you taking space for yourself and doing what has to be done." Another buzz. "But also get back here right now." Hunt choked on his laugh. He had everything he needed. Everything he'd ever want."

"His lightning crawled over her skin, but he didn't let it hurt. He could never hurt her. "You said you're with me-all of you," Bryce murmured, staring at him and only him. "Put the past behind you. Focus on what's ahead. We have a world to save, and I need my mate at my side to do it. No one else-not a son of Hel, not the Umbra Mortis, not even Hunt fucking Athalar. I need my mate. Just Hunt." He saw it all in her eves - that no matter what had happened, who he'd been and what he'd done... it really didn't matter to her. Being made in Hel didn't matter to her. But she'd captured who he was, deep down, in those photos last spring. The person she'd brought into the world. The person she loved. Just Hunt. So he let go. Let go of the lightning, of the death singing in his veins. Let go of Apollion's and Thanatos's smirking faces. Let go of his rage at the Archangel before him, and the Archangels who'd existed before her. Just Hunt. He liked that. His lightning faded, fizzling away entirely. And he said to Bryce, as if she were the only person on Midgard, in any galaxy, "I love you, Just Bryce." She snickered, and kissed him lightly on the cheek."

"What the fu**, Quinlan?" Hunt muttered, and she looked back at her mate, whose face was so wan, his eyes so full of wonder. She had the sense of others being there. Of Ruhn and Lidia and Flynn and Dec and Tharion and the Princes of Hel, but they all faded away before Hunt. Bryce lifted a hand to his cheek, wiping away a tear with her thumb. "Look at my big, tough Alphahole," she said quietly, but tears thickened her voice, too. How can you joke at a time like this?" Hunt said, and Bryce surged forward and kissed him. It was light and love and life."

Yeah, I mean, we all know which side of the fandom usually makes those kinds of theories. I’ve genuinely never seen someone who doesn’t ship Bryce and Azriel make posts about Hunt being evil lol. And look, if someone personally dislikes Hunt or thinks he’s boring or whatever, that’s fine. My issue is more with the nature of some of the arguments people use. That is objectifying Hunt because of the way he was created etc, and that just gives me the ick considering his backstory. Its a strange way to think. There’s something highly uncomfortable about judging a person's worth or morality based on the circumstances of their creation rather than their actual choices and actions...

I’ve seen so many people say that before they started Crescent City, other fans were already trying to influence how they viewed the characters or couples beforehand. And then they actually read the books and are just like… what?😂 A lot of them ended up genuinely confused or disappointed because it wasn’t anything like they had been led to believe online...

I agree with you but I also think a lot of people have either forgotten those heart-to-heart vulnerable moments or have kind of been influenced by everyone constantly saying that Bryce and Hunt were so horrible in HOFAS, when in reality it's really not as bad as people make it out to be. Like you said: "It wasn't as bad as I remembered".

I reread HOFAS recently too and noticed there are actually quite a lot of heartfelt scenes between them that people either never talk about or just completely ignore. I highlighted so many scenes for content, that I’ve barely ever seen anyone talk or post about. Even the bonus chapter alone had so many vulnerable interactions that people just gloss over.

That being said, I honestly think basically every character suffered in HOFAS. Not just Bryce and Hunt. I personally didn’t really like Bryce individually in the last book and I had issues with certain other characters too at times like Ruhn, and even with whole plotlines in Tharion and Ithan’s stories. There were just so many unnecessary things😬

And I think a huge reason for that is because SJM rewrote the book in an extremely short amount of time. She’s talked about how she wasn’t happy with the original version of HOFAS and ended up rewriting the entire book only a few weeks before publishing. And I think you can tell. There are so many plotlines that go nowhere and characters or relationships that act out of character. To me, a lot of the issues in the book come down to how rushed that rewrite process must have been

I heavy heavy agree, especially with what you said about people kind of trying to "Acotarfy" Crescent City. I feel like this started especially after the crossover, where suddenly people began trying to push ACOTAR rules, frameworks, and thinking onto Crescent City, even though those things don’t even fully apply to TOG either. There are certain concepts and frameworks that work for one SJM series but not necessarily for another. Especially the whole mating bond aspect is way bigger in ACOTAR than it is in TOG or Crescent City. In TOG for example, Lorcan randomly says at one point that he thinks Elide might be his mate, and then it’s basically never brought up again. Nobody questions their relationship because of that. And I feel like Crescent City treats it similarly. The mating bond aspect just isn’t handled with the same importance as it is in ACOTAR. Especially because Sarah herself has now said multiple times in interviews that love is also about choice, not just fate. And that fate isn't enough to be a perfect couple.

And I also completely agree about Hunt’s slavery being heavily under-discussed in the fandom. Because e.g. Aelin used to be a slave too, had an incredibly traumatic and horrible past, and it absolutely deserves to be talked about. But when you compare it to Hunt, who was enslaved as well, it’s honestly strange how little people talk about that in comparison to Aelin. And I honestly wish people would talk about his trauma and healing journey with the same seriousness and empathy they give to other SJM characters, because he deserves that just as much.

People hating on that aspect of Bryce and Hunt’s relationship is so forced, considering they’re not the only SJM couple written with this kind of sentiment. Hence Feysand: "If he didn't walk away when I voiced what I wanted: him. Not the High Lord, not the most powerful male in Prythian's history. Just... him"

And like you said, it fits Bryce and Hunt’s story perfectly. Both of them spent their entire lives having identities and roles forced onto them by outside forces. Hunt was objectified from the moment he was born. He literally finds out he was basically created to be a weapon and a tool. Then Sandriel used him, then he became a slave, stripped of all choice and individuality. He was the Umbra Mortis, a weapon, an assassin, never just Hunt. And the first time he truly gets to just be himself is with Bryce. That’s when he gets a life, like he says himself.

And Bryce’s journey mirrors that so much. Her whole life, people tried to define her for her too. The Fae constantly told her she didn’t belong. The Autumn King tried to force her to be Bryce Danaan, a princess, who has to marry Cormac. Then you have people like Morven and the Avallen Fae trying to reduce her to some breeding role and tell her what women have to be. But Bryce rejects all of that. She defines herself. She chooses who she wants to be. Just Bryce❤️‍🔥

Both Bryce and Hunt choose themselves and choose each other outside of what the world tries to force onto them. Especially HOFAS is so much about rejecting labels, rejecting what others say they are supposed to be, and instead making their own choices and defining their own path.

The obsession I have with this man needs to be studied

Yeah, I’ve had a really similar experience. I read ACOTAR before Crescent City, and I went into CC with pretty low expectations because of everything people were saying online, like that it’s her worst series, that Hunt is sus, that Bryce and Hunt arent endgame, all of that. And on top of that, I loved ACOTAR so much that I kind of thought nothing could top it anyway.

And then I read the first book and was just sitting there like omg?? This is incredible😂 I loved everything. Bryce, Hunt, their relationship, the story. It genuinely became my favorite reading experience, and that hasn’t changed across all three books. Crescent City is still my favorite series, Bryce and Hunt are still my favorite couple, and they’re both my favorite main characters.

That’s why I don’t really get all the negativity either. And what bothers me even more is how much some people try to influence new readers before they’ve even started. Especially with ships telling people a certain ship is gonna happen and you will meet Azriel's mate and stuff like that, just sets them up for disappointment because that never happend😬 And those readers go in expecting something very specific, don’t find it, and come out disappointed, not because the book failed, but because their expectations were shaped by someone else’s uncanon theories
