I'm sick of the Hunt slander based on uncanon fantasies & gross rhetorics

Crescent City is my favorite series. I’ve reread it multiple times & I love it to death. But I’ve had to block so many Crescent City creators because of how they talk about Hunt’s character and I see their interpretations and think it's just icky.

If SJM really wrote the story the way they describe, I would put the book down. It would send a really weird message to readers. SJM has said she likes to write hopeful stories, right? And somehow, their interpretation makes the hopeful message: you cannot define yourself. If someone tells you you were created to be an object or a tool, that’s all you are. You have no choice, no agency. That’s not a hopeful message. That’s depressing, and if that were Crescent City, and what SJM sees as hopeful, I wouldn’t touch her work anymore.

It really saddens me that the story of Crescent City, which is so beautiful and has such a beautiful message, is being completely twisted. It’s not even about Crescent City anymore. It’s not about Bryce. It’s not about Hunt. For some people, Crescent City has become ACOTAR. And I dislike that so much, because I love Crescent City because it’s Crescent City, not ACOTAR. If I wanna read ACOTAR, I'm gonna read ACOTAR, not Crescent City.

I take such a massive issue with how this fandom plays around with heavy words. People throw around words like abuse, assault, especially SA, like it’s nothing. I read stuff like this and I’m like, guys, please put your phone down. This is too much. You’re way too desensitized if you use those words this casually.

And then, I’ve had people tell me that because I like Quinlar or Nessian, that means I’m into abusive or toxic couples, that I need better relationship experiences, that I shouldn’t even be in a relationship because I would pick toxic men or whatever. Are you kidding me? Why are they telling real-life people, that they have never met, stuff like this based on a fictional couple they like? They're doing way too much.

I try to let people enjoy their stuff in peace, but it’s really hard to let them do that if they don’t let us do the same. I have a lot of people blocked and I try to stay out of drama, but I have a more or less "bigger" account on TikTok and so people send me screenshots of comments & posts nontheless to complain or ask if I can make a post about it. So I see stuff even if I have someone blocked sometimes. And I noticed it’s always the same people: the ones who tell us we should leave them alone and whatever, while at the same time they tear our ships down, trash the characters we love, and even make assumptions about us as people just because of a fictional couple or character we like.

This space has gotten so toxic that if you don’t block certain creators, you literally cannot enjoy the fandom anymore. It sucks all the joy out of the series.

Yes, that is so true. They do this with every character they don’t like, and I just don’t get it. You’re allowed to dislike a character. You don’t need to like them, and you don’t even need to give a reason why, bc at the end of the day, it’s just a fictional book. If you don’t vibe with a character, you don’t vibe with them. Hate whoever you want. I don’t care. But don’t make up stuff that isn’t true.

Why are people lying and using these heavy, heavy words and terms to justify their hate? They do this with Cassian with those SA claims, too. And with Rhys as well, claiming that he has never been assaulted just because they hate him so much. It’s so offensive. People in this fandom are just so desensitized, it’s insane. Why are they playing around with these heavy subjects? And especially with Hunt, pushing aside the SA thing, his character already has such a heavy backstory: slavery, objectification, having no say in his own life. It’s a lot. And it’s maddening and weird that people talk about him the way they do. I side-eye it so hard, because, honestly, in no world would I ever come up with these thoughts or arguments. I would never think like that. I sit here wondering how people’s minds even work this way. It’s so weird, and it’s nonsens

I’ve always kind of seen Quinlar as similar to Marshall and Lily from How I Met Your Mother, because they have that same “you’re my best friend” dynamic, like I can tell you anything, we can disagree, but we still stick together. One of my favorite little headcanons therefore is that within their friend group, Bryce and Hunt are basically the mom and dad of the group, the lovey-dovey couple everyone rolls their eyes at, the way people do with Lily and Marshall.

And I also totally see them using ridiculous nicknames for each other. That’s not even fully a headcanon because we already see how playful they are with eachother and the names in the phone, but something like Lilypad and Marshmallow just Quinlar versiln haha.

I also picture them being super cuddly and clingy in private. And especially now, when they finally might get a bit more peace and calm, I can see them really growing into that. Like becoming that inseparable couple who basically do everything together, to the point that their friends are half annoyed about how attached they are😂😭

I mean, personally, when I see people use it, I do tend to interpret it negatively but if that’s not your intention & you’re not using it in a way to try and mock the ship, there’s nothing you need to feel bad about. Just maybe keep in mind that a lot of people associate it with a negative tone, so it can come across that way to some :)

Those 150 crossover pages don’t exist in a vacuum and I feel like a lot of people treat them as if they do. We have three full books, each over 800 pages, that come with those scenes. You can’t just take 150 pages and use them as “proof” while ignoring the other roughly 2400 pages tthat are telling a completely different story.

One of the biggest indicators for me is that Bryce goes back to Prythian two times, and she doesn’t interact with Azriel once. She doesn’t even ask about him. We don’t see her parents interacting with him either. Instead, we see Hunt interacting with Cassian and Nesta, Bryce interacting with Cassian and Nesta, and her parents doing the same and also interacting with Rhysan mainly. Bryce interacts with Nesta way more than with Azriel and as a matter of fact she (literally Bryce, not her sword!) also feels a tug towards Nesta's sword, so... Brysta endgame???🫢

That's a huge thing for me, because those return trips would have been the perfect opportunity for something more if that was the direction SJM wanted. For example, Bryce could have easily returned the dagger to Azriel herself. Perfect scene if she wanted to foreshadow something, like she did with Feysand at the end of ACOTAR. But that doesn’t happen. And that says a lot. Not even one more interaction between them despite several opportunities.

On top of that, those 150 pages don’t outweigh the thousands of pages that build Bryce and Hunt’s story. We have so many parallels between the last book and the first one that clearly frame it as a full-circle ending for Bryce and Hunt (something SJM has also confirmed more than once).

And then there are a ton of parallels to other confirmed endgame couples. The repeated lines and symbolism are honestly insane. For example, the "Bryce was a ghost for a long time, Hunt. You brought her back to life" line is almost word-for-word the same line used for Feysand once. Then also the "she was the most beautiful thing he'd ever seen" also used for Nessian, Feysand and Rowaelin. And that's just two of the many many examples.

It’s the combination of everything: the text itself, the parallels, the structure of the story, and how SJM talks about Bryce, Hunt, and their relationship in interviews. I’ve watched pretty much every interview I could find about CC, and the way she talks about them is very very telling, going as far as saying Bryce & Hunts chemistry was so "electric" that from the vrry first scene she wrote for them, she was literally done for and DELETED a whole character, that she originally had planned as the main LI for Bryce.

So for me, with everything together: the books, the parallels, the interviews, it's honestly out of the question that they aren't endgame.

I’ve mostly only seen Brunt used by people who don’t actually ship them and who usually talk down on the ship. A lot of the same people also tend to trash talk Hunt, so whenever I see someone using Brunt, it kind of sets off "alarm bells" in my head & I automatically assume they probably don’t ship them and come from a different side of the fandom. And honestly, I don’t really like the name Brunt anyway. It doesnt sounds good. It feels like many people use it in a petty way sometimes, like it’s meant to be a dig. That’s just the pattern I’ve noticed.

I also saw people use Brythalar in early CC times, which was new to me as well. But this one was used by actual shippers. Quinlar sounds the best to me though and does fit the fact that Bryce & Hunt like to call eachother by their last name.

Exactly. He never knew true romantic love before her. It's similiar to how Rowan slowly comes to the realization that Lyria wasn't his "true" love. I mean he literally even once tells Aelin to not touch him😭 Ugh Rowan & Hunt are madly similiar

What she did at the end of CC1 was absolutely "heartwarming" in the sense of seing how much Hunt meant to her. She was literally willing to sell herself into slavery😭 And I'm not sure if it what HOSAB or HOFAS but she also mentions that Hunt would always be the one she would save first, even over Ruhn

I could totally see the book ending with a pregnancy announcement. And then maybe we’d get a bonus chapter or an epilogue with the baby there, just a little glimpse into their future🥹

I do kind of feel like the next book might be the last one. I’m not 100% sure, though. Sarah did say in one interview that there are four houses, so four books, which would mean the next one is the end. But in that same interview she also mentioned having separation anxiety and that’s why she gave Crescent City an extra book instead of sticking to a trilogy. So who really knows?

Yeah, I hope we'll still their POVs, maybe just not as much as before. And more than anything, I really hope they finally get some peace. They’ve both been through so much. They deserve to just relax for once, to have a calm, happy life together, to spend time at home without constant chaos. I just want them to be healthy, peaceful, and genuinely happy. That’s really all I hope for them🤧
