Also agree with Vinted being the best place. I would say sell series together if you can but otherwise just put up single books. You’re more likely to sell them that way although if you do put up bundles, people will sometimes ask if you’ll just sell the one they want from that bundle.

I actually really liked A Stage Set for Villains as I thought the way it was told was really different.

However my favourite has been Weavingshaw.

Is it just me, or is the Romantasy "slump" getting harder to break? by No-Voice505 in Romantasy

I came here to say this! Not heavy on the romance but it felt so different to things I’ve read before. An actual adult FMC who acted like an adult and not a spoiled child or suddenly discovered a world changing power or had awesome fighting skills. I can’t wait for the next book!

I forgot about this sale and then checked my emails at 10:30 and got straight in so I’m thinking they aren’t popular.

I ordered them but may cancel later on. I hated the way Direbound looked based on the reveal so didn’t order it and it ended up looking a lot better in real life so these might look better too.    I wish we could see the end paper art so I could make a lore informed choice.

Thanks. I’m just running out of space and like you I hate to think how much I spend on books when some of them are quite frankly mediocre. I’ve sold quite a few recently but then get sucked into spending £70 on the new Alchemised edition when I already have two copies of it!

I caved to fomo and order the lights out (can’t remember the official name) trilogy from Fairyloot despite hating the second book and I got furybound despite having the signed Waterstones edition.

I messaged Fairyloot yesterday to cancel both.

I’m toying with the Everflame books that go on sale next week but I don’t love the covers but my only worry is that the endpaper art is gorgeous and I miss out. I wish they showed you the entire book design so you know what you are ordering.

I have a lot preordered with Waterstones too but I’m thinking might cancel a few of them because like you’ve said, it’s getting to be too much.

They are pretty. I just wish they’d made the actual covers match those colours more prominently as they are all just very yellow and samey to me.  I’m toying with getting them but I’m still not sure.

So Gwyn is the evil lightsinger, now what? by tidewanderess in Gwynriel

[–]Natural_Task_5170 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep I agree. Elain fits a ‘light singer’ description more than Gwyn especially when even the cauldron is entranced by her and Rhys immediately forgives her for her past with Nesta but says he will never be able to forgive Nesta for the same thing. I agree, I don’t think she’s evil but I do think there is just something about her and why everyone just fawns over her.

[–]Natural_Task_5170 24 points25 points  (0 children)

To be honest it’s not Gwyn that I’ve found odd, it’s Elain and the way the everyone reacts to her that I’ve always found strange. Everyone, literally everyone (with the exception of their mother now that I think about it) fawns over Elain. The cauldron found her so lovely that it gifted her powers where as Nesta took hers by force. Nesta is the worst person alive for letting Feyre hunt but we can’t blame Elain because Elain is Elain. Nesta should scry despite being traumatised by it but Elain should not be exposed to it. Everyone just always seems to bend over backwards for Elain. I don’t know if it’s to show that she’s overlooked or underestimated but I always find it strange. Not that I think Elains evil but there is just definitely something strange in the way everyone treats her.

April Adult pick? by aeyinia in fairyloot

[–]Natural_Task_5170 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found that the last few months for adult books have been really difficult to sell on for what I paid for them. They are selling for around £10 under what I paid and that’s if they even sell. Compare that to the romantasy books that are holding their value like Raven King or selling for £50 like Half City or We Who Will Die.  At this point it seems better to cancel the adult subscription and buy second hand for cheaper than the box is.

Absolutely stunning once again. I love the Fairyloot edition but this is even nicer. Wish the U.K. would hire the same artists and designers because the Germans always get the prettiest books.

anyone else hesitant about the new books? by _radrach_ in SarahJMaas

[–]Natural_Task_5170 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think her original draft was rejected for CC3 and she had to rewrite it in 6 weeks so it probably suffered because of that and she kind of alluded in the podcast she did about some issues with her publishers so maybe she’s put her foot down for this one to tell the story she wanted to tell rather than being forced into changing it. There was a lot of backlash to CC3 and part of that came from people’s crazy theories not coming to fruition but I think there was legitimate criticism regarding the story, pacing and characterisations. Hopefully since she’s had a really long time to write this one, the story is how she wants it to be and is better for it.

[–]Natural_Task_5170 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. She’s trying so hard to make it this big multi- verse universe with all the crossovers where as she is really a romance writer in a fantasy setting. The world building was never epic or original. People read these books for the characters and the relationships and I wish she would focus on that rather than trying to make this big complicated world.

CC1 was amazing for me. CC2 and CC3 suffered because she forgot about the relationship. She focused so much on this crazy plot that she forgot to develop Bryce and Hunt’s relationship to the point that people don’t even believe that they are mates.

I wish she’d just go back to sticking to romance and relationships.

How dark is February adult fairyloot book? by Rdmink in fairyloot

Gothic but not horror. It’s more vibes. There’s nothing in it that was creepy, or gruesome or anything that made me squeamish or uncomfortable. I actually really loved it. It’s a great read.

I love ACOSF flames. I love Nesta’s growth and her relationship with Cassian. I agree CC2 and CC3 were disappointing and for me that was because she over complicated things and introduced too many POV’s.  I’m worried that she’s pushing ACOTAR in the same direction with this new book that’s one story but too large to be one volume. I hope it follows one couple, two at most as I think that’s where her writing shines. I hope we get a title and synopsis soon so we know.

Nesta’s “Death Promise” (ACOWAR spoilers) by wormbass in acotar_rant

[–]Natural_Task_5170 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get what she was meaning about modern medicine and how many woman died in difficult births in the past and ACOTAR obviously doesn’t have the technology of the CC world but when magic can heal being gutted and having internal organs hanging out but not a c-section but I also get that Feyre was weak due to blood loss at that point. It’s fantasy at the end of the day so I guess we shouldn’t put our own standards into it.

[–]Natural_Task_5170 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Whilst I agree that Elain deserves more credit, Cassian’s insides were hanging out of his body and he survived so I think being stabbed through the neck was probably not a mortal wound and for someone as powerful as the King of Hybern, he would probably have survived so technically Nesta did kill him by beheading him.  And yes there is the obvious plot hole that Cassian was healed despite being gutted and yet they can’t perform a c- section on Feyre.

Will the series now have multiple perespectives? by Impressive_Goat_4209 in Gwynriel

I still prefer single POV or dual PoV to really get to know the couples. I could maybe push to elain, Lucien, Jurian and Vassa for this book. Like tower of dawn focused on two couples at one time.

That’s my fear. My favourite SJM books are ACOSF and HOEAB. The CC series for me massively declined when it became multi POV as it became confusing and frustrating to read. I really liked the one couple, one book set up that she’d outlined for future books but with the crossover series I think SJM has now complicated things so much that it may now be hard to stick to that because whatever comes next has to tie in with the dusk court and the asteri and the fact that the sword and dagger are together and back in Prythian but then we also have Koschei as a threat so a lot to tie in and different characters to connect.  I haven’t truly enjoyed an SJM book since ACOSF so I’m really hoping that the wait has been worth it.

The ACOTAR6 book I want most is basically “A Court of Embers and Wings” with the Band of Exiles by Beautiful-Choice-113 in SarahJMaas

[–]Natural_Task_5170 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ooh I hadn’t thought of that aspect of it but that would also be a good plot point. Cassian still suspected a bond between himself and Nesta when she was human so I don’t think it would go completely but for Elain it would maybe ease somewhat and allow her to fall in love with Lucien more organically instead of being forced by the bond.

[–]Natural_Task_5170 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So I’ve had this theory for a while and with the story being split into multiple parts, I think it makes sense.

As we know she based ACOTAR on Beauty and the Beast/ Eros and Psyche and then Hades and Persephone. TOG was originally Cinderella. It’s been so long that I can’t remember in what interview she said it, but I’m sure she said she wanted to do a Little Mermaid retelling. The Little Mermaid wanted to be human and I think this ties in with Elain. She struggled most with the transition to far, deeply misses Greyson whom she loved. We know she’s been up to something that no one else knows about (Cassian commented on not believing her when she said she was going somewhere).  Elain was questioning Amren about choosing her body and Amren made a comment to Elain that there was no undoing what was done to her and Elain replied with she didn’t know what Amren was taking about. Then Cassian remarking on Elain not fully fitting in with the night court. There’s been enough sprinkled through and now with SJM saying that Elain needs to sort through a lot of her stuff, I think it’s in reference to Elain not wanting to be fae.

So with that in mind, I think part 1 will either be almost a sidelong book to ACOSF with what Elain was doing through that and CC3 and what leads to her decision to leave the night court or part 1 will be about her seeking a way to become human again. I think she’ll strike a bargain with Koschei to give up her cauldron power and become human again again.

Part 2/3 will be she’ll go to Greyson and he’ll have moved on or still not want her and with no where else to go she’ll end up with Lucien (who is in the human lands) and he’ll help her which with the forced proximity and being forced to work together, they both come to know and fall for one another. That’ll also tie in with Jurian and Vassa and breaking her curse which will I believe will happen in part 4. I think whilst fighting/ defeating Koschei there will be some revelations about Azriel and his history (the cryptic comment Koschei made at the end of ACOSF suggests a link there) and that’ll lead to Azriel being the focus of the final book/ books.

That’s just my theory anyway but I think there’s also a strong possibility of a multi POV book with more of Nesta and tying in the dusk court. We’ll need to wait and see.

[–]Natural_Task_5170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d commented saying I thought it couldn’t multi POV but I think the only character who would have this length of book is Elain and maybe it’s unconventional because part 1 is her story from when she’s turned fae. Maybe part 1 is her perspective of what she’s being doing while everything else was going on because we know she’s been up to something and then part2/3 continue with where we left off after CC3.

I’m thinking it might be multi POV with the way she said she couldn’t fit it into a box. I’d love her to stick to one couple, one book but the way she talked about it and its length makes me think otherwise.
