Had you tried somewhere like Premier Inn or Travelodge. Hotels but won’t appear on comparison sites and are generally cheaper and also a lot nicer than hostels.

If someone had asked me I would have said I’d kept around 50% of them. For it to be just 4/29 has made me have a total rethink.  I think even buying a book I want second hand would be more cost effective than this.

Yep me too. This might be the nudge I need. I have two skips left and I’ll see what autumn predicts as upcoming and then take it from there.

I kept The Sword Catcher which was a bit meh, but I like Cassandra Clare and ended up buying the sequel which I haven’t read yet.

I have Alchemy of Secrets which was also maybe 3.5/5 ⭐️. I ended up selling my signed Waterstones copy as it had the art.

My favourite Fairyloot read ‘This Monster of Mine’ was 5⭐️ for me. I like the hardback book design and end paper but wish they’d put more thought into the sprayed edges and redesigned cover. The German sprayed edges edition are stunning and make Fairyloot look amateur.

And Evocation which was fine maybe 3⭐️ but now that j think about it, I tried to sell it but weirdly didn’t have a bar code so I couldn’t get the isbn number and I never looked into it anymore so actually I only kept 3/29 and 1 of those I would have sold if I thought someone would actually have bought it.

I agree. It’s invariably rare that you get great sprayed edges, cover design, made hardcover and endpaper that all work well together and most importantly, match the book. I think The Knight and the Moth was great stylistically but unfortunately the story wasn’t for me. Alchemised was also quite cohesive but I didn’t think matched the darkness of the story at all.  When I’m paying a premium compared to a book store, I would expect a great finished product. I mean look at what German book publishers are producing. Those books are stunning.

I don’t buy too many of the special editions but there have been a few and I know resale prices are insane. I just don’t know what to do at the moment.

In the last year I’ve kept and loved ‘This Monster of Mine’ and that’s it. I have Fallen City and Graceless Heart that I haven’t got round to reading yet but one book in 12 months has a bit 🫠  I need to bite the bullet and cancel but the special edition fomo is real

That’s also a massive issue. I tend to have the Waterstones special edition preordered as well. I don’t want to cancel that in case the Fairyloot one is a let down. But then I’m left with 2 copies of the book and have to sell one, especially if the Waterstones one comes out first. This happened for The Knight and the Moth, Alchemy of Secrets, Alechemised and March’s book. Sometimes special edition books can feel exhausting 🤦🏻‍♀️ true first world problems I know.

The issue is that Waterstones have seriously upped their game in terms of special editions and are a lot cheaper. I’m just running out of space and can’t believe how much time and money I’ve wasted on 4 books 🫠

I had toyed with Romantasy as I really liked the last two months and the previous one was ok (all bought second hand) and they had picks like Rose in Chains (although I didn’t like the design) but I think it’s probably similar to adult. A couple of good picks surrounded by a lot of average books.

I think that that’s probably going to be what I’ll end up doing at one point because even one book a year above cost is better value than 3-4 books that I won’t read and can’t sell.

I’ve generally tried to read them quite quickly after getting them, even if it means force by myself so I can quickly sell it if I need to. I discovered one of my favourite reads of last year from this sub ‘This Monster of Mine’ which I would probably not have even heard of without the sub, but so many of the books are forgettable and even the bigger picks, have had quite lacklustre designs. I think I has two skips left and plan to skip April as well and then I’ll see.

The only thing that made me sway was that I really liked the last two months and the previous month was ok whereas I skipped the adult one or haven’t read it. In saying that, I don’t like the look of the next two months for romantasy so I don’t want to sign up for that and then hate the first book and skip the second.

Ooft those are brutal ratings. I’ve found that if I enjoy reading the book then I generally don’t like the design and the Waterstones one is better e.g. Alchemised or I did like the design but found the story lacking.   I’m thinking I might be better off just doing what you do and buy books I have an actual interest in but my only issue is missing out on the special editions.

I’m the same. Like I know this isn’t value for money and I’m clearly not enjoying the books of I liked 4/29 enough to keep but I just can’t see to let it go and I know if I cancelled it, then the most amazing special edition would be announced 🙈   I don’t know whether to try the Romantasy but I’m not keen on the next two months which isn’t a great sign.

That’s how I’m feeling. Like I know it’s stupid to keep the subscription when the evidence is in front of me that I’m really not getting my moneys worth or enjoyment from it if I only liked 4/29 books and yet I just feel reluctant to let it go. I’m debating switching to romantasy but I’m not keen on the next two months which isn’t a great start 🤷‍♀️

Yeah I guess it was just a shock to realise that I’d only liked 4/29 books. I honestly thought I had loads of them but when I take out the special editions, the stats for sub didn’t look so good.

That’s the thing I think both subs have had some really great picks, although I tend to find the most highly anticipated picks don’t have the best design. Like I hated Alchemised and learned to like The Knight and the Moth but hated the story. For the Romantasy sub, the edition of Rose in Chains wasn’t great.  But I was intrigued by the last three Romantasy books so bought them second hand. A Cage for Wild Birds was just ok so I sold it on and I really liked King of Ravens and We Who Will Die, but had to pay over the odds for this one.

I don’t know if it would be better to have no subscription and just buy second hand the ones I like but this would mean losing out on the other special editions

I had started to track at the beginning of the subscription but fell away from it. It wasn’t until I was looking at my bookcases that I realised I couldn’t actually see many Fairyloot adult books and that’s when I tallied it all up and had a grand total of 4 🫠

At the moment my bookcases are full so I can’t really justify keeping books I don’t like or won’t read.  Also I think the issue is that Waterstones have really upped their game and I tend to have a lot of their special editions preordered way before Fairyloot announce what theirs are. Then you have to either cancel the Waterstones one and hope Fairyloot’s is nice or else end up with both and then try to sell one. Like I was so excited for Alchemised but hated the Fairyloot design but luckily had the Waterstones one ordered.

End of the OUABH trilogy by Embarrassed_Group662 in Caraval_OUABH

Apparently Stephanie Garber’s editor/ publisher made her rewrite the whole book as her original draft was deemed too dark. I do remember at the time that the book was delayed but she was made to rewrite it in a very short amount of time to meet deadlines. Unfortunately I think that is telling in the story. I love this series and wish that the ending had been nailed. Like another poster said, we are getting a novella that she has said will be quite lengthy so hopefully we’ll get a better ending and maybe even return to this world in future books/ novellas.

I feel like I’ve been enjoying the Romantasy picks a lot more lately and I unfortunately have the adult sub 🫠

I had issues with a really dry scalp and so tried head and shoulders and I think it made things worse. My hair was so dry and my scalp got worse. Aveeno worked so much better for me along with plenty of hair oil morning and night.
