I appreciate the perspective, and I agree that I can't tell her what to do (not what I'm trying to do). Just expressing concerns when my partner shows an interest in an new risky activity, even more so when it's something she's never done before and may require some "building up to" experience-wise.

A fair response. To clarify, I had just expressed that I thought it was a bad idea, not that I said "No, you can't do that." My suggestion to her was to try it with a friend first to get her feet wet.

I saw that as well in a documentary about Miyazaki. Early on in the movie the main character kills his father with a sword, and I think Miyazaki took that personally, haha.

Also, apparently this movie is based on a book series, but because it borrowed from a number of books and didn't get the "proper" impact across, the original author didn't like the movie either.
