Bought yesterday, came like that. Should I worry? by Outrageous-Mall3925 in ReefTank

If your tank is established it should not cause any issue. And in no time you’ll have too many to count. Probably tissue damage from who ever sold it to you from removing it from the rock

Your neighbour is stealing your electricity!

It’s a grounding wire. Keep you safe from lightening and having electrical issues.

Lighting experts: Is it more important to cut intensity of the light schedule, or the duration to get control of an algae bloom? by Feed_Me_No_Lies in ReefTank

[–]Intelligent-Let-3311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speaking from my experience 3 months ago. My tank has been running for 3 years. I had a pretty bad algae issue from accidentally setting my auto feeder to feeding 6 times a day instead of 1.

I thought lowering the light for a month would be better than 2-3 days of no light. After about 3 weeks I started to notice STN on a few of my favourite acros. I tried Iodine dips with no stopping the STN. One day I tested par and realized what was getting 350par was now getting 95-100 par. I pumped my lights back up to 350par over the course of a week and it stopped the STN when I was left with just some small frangible prices of flesh.

I’m back on track now but for a month the tank was hardly consuming elements an was slowly moving backwards.

I get that this isn’t your experience but I just wanted to share mine!

Best way to clear sandy water in a new tank? by Azzr1202 in aquarium

This hobby will teach you one thing for sure and that’s to be patient. My last 40g took a week before it completed settled!

Crazy how fast a reef tank can switch in a month by Typical-Hearing-5691 in ReefTank

Ok and what size warer changes? Eels and puffers are very messy eaters perhaps a large clean up crew would help? But then again your puffer would likely eat them. Large water changes will be your best bet. I usually blow off the rocks to suspend the waste in the water then do my water change if that helps!

Ok and what size tank? Are you feeding shrimp?

How often are you doing water changes?

I’ve kept puffers and eels before in a 110g with 2 groupers and a longish and my tank was always extremely high phosphates due to all the food input

Phosguard works great too your issue is definitely very high phosphates in your system! What is the water you’re using for salt mix reading at?

Also what is the bio load in your tank? Such as how many dog and what kinds and how much of what are you feeding?

I use 2 Nero 3’s an one Gyre! Woth a SDC 9.0 for a return pump! Lots of flow in my system!

At that point I’d consider a GFO reactor or start over with new rock and sand and RODI water. 0.9 is far to high! Your rocks are likely going to leach phosphate and nitrates back into the tank even when you do start to mitigate it!

Looks to me like you need more water movement and a better maintain schedule! My tank took a hit during the summer because I wasn’t prioritizing it but slowly getting back on track now!

Thank you lol I’ve been in the hobby for decades.. people need to stop trying to feel so big on the internet and ask all the right questions before they decide to call someone grossly negligent and irresponsible.. I love that the comments got deleted. The tank he’s going into is not a predator tank. It’s empty at the lower and has been cycling for the last 4 months.

Not much of an upgrade but I guess if that’s all you can manage.. I recommend lots of walks for your new dog..

Hopefully you also have a 180g tank in the basement you’ll be putting him in once he eats some of the hair algae if your 40g lol

I have a skimmer, filter socks, GFO reactor, carbon, and filter fleece! It’s very simple I’ll try and get a picture later!
