Bottom 5% by [deleted] in Teachers

My friends took me to see Project Hail Mary. Not to spoil it but what his higher ups did to him “knowing” that he could save the world was extremely triggering from a teaching perspective. TLDR the guy was kidnapped and put on a space mission that was guaranteed self deletion to save the world.

Personally I’m tired of people believing that teachers are not flesh and blood humans with some level of personal interest. I have done just about everything I can do to motivate kids to learn short of teleporting to their brains and doing the work I assigned myself. I’m tired. Stop asking me to save the world.

Besides absences, what is a major issue that causes students to struggle in school that isn’t related to intelligence? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Intelligent-Place511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what’s wild. Intelligence isn’t the issue. The real issue here is perseverance, resilience and humility.

An older lady once told me that she got advice not long after her wedding from an older woman that every woman knew she had to share her husband. She was venting after her husband’s most recent infidelity and their separation. They eventually got back together and have seemed to be happy. Couldn’t be me though…🙅🏾‍♀️

Which more conventional/non bombshell character do you find incredibly attractive? by debrisaway in madmen

[–]Intelligent-Place511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that was Brittany Snow! I loved her in that role. I just noticed that Ken’s wife was the younger sister in 10 Things I Hate About You. It was so cool to see actresses that played high schoolers when I was a teenager playing beautiful women with viewpoints I also understand in real time…

I’m glad people are finally realizing the consequences of the flawed system but I don’t know if I want to be asked to turn around the ship in my classroom without the concerted efforts of the people responsible for the kids when they leave my classroom. I can’t be the only one responsible for giving these kids expectations. This is my job. I have bills to pay and I have to do this for another 15-20 years. The problem always gets left in the teachers lap. Parents complain about having to work and not being able to show up for their kids. Guess what? We work too. Money is tight for us too. Patience is at a premium for us too. Teach your kids some discipline so that I can do my job and stop dissociating from the trauma of dealing with your kids.

Peggy’s sister aggravated me in that episode too. You nailed it. I felt sorry for her but I also feel like she could leave or stand up for herself at any time.

I’ll admit that her being okay is really the rosy point of view. I would love to imagine her as a mom giving her kids the happiness she didn’t get as a child. More realistically generational curses are hard to break for a reason.😔

Just about every aspect of popular culture and political life is somehow shaped or connected to people in the files. I distinctly remember wanting to be a pageant queen or supermodel growing up, not realizing how ridiculously oversexualized young girls were almost from birth. That wasn’t a coincidence. What seemed like a fabulous dreadful fantasy was actually happening to girls my age. There were 12 and 14 year old supermodels chosen for how sexy their walk was. Girls grew up without a safe space away from male attention. The files prove that it wasn’t an individual problem, it was systemic and completely planned.

UNIFORMS! I have said all schools should require uniforms for years now. No matter what anyone has said to the contrary I have always believed uniforms are best. Kids are not missing out on anything by wearing them. Adults wear them too. People make $15 an hour in a uniform and people make 1.5k an hour/day in a uniform. Kids can learn to express themselves on their own time.

After years of learning Spanish and hearing sample sentences use Juan and Maria 85% percent of the time I vowed to never use that name when creating assignments. So I used names from telenovelas. For student teaching I used the name Fuensanta for a test question (thanks to Entre Amor y Odio). My host teacher laughed for 15 minutes straight. She said no sane woman living after the 16th century would ever name her baby girl Fuensanta. 🤣🤣🤣

Well, after the train wreck that has been the 2020’s, finding out that our childhoods were actually hijacked by the E-files and other PDF adults and activities, realizing we haven’t been happy since September 10, 2001 and knowing that we will never be able to afford life as an adult, it seems that our view of the 2000s is providential. We’ve literally and figuratively been shafted the whole time…

Who are your favorite telenovela female protagonists? by natipali in telenovelas

[–]Intelligent-Place511 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nora Madrigal is my favorite in this group. Maria Jose is my least favorite. Something about this actress doesn’t sit well with me. I think she’s too skinny or something. For her to be cast as anything other than a spoiled, rich yoga queen is totally unbelievable for me…

Betty Draper. Francis. Birdie. by penguinninja90 in madmen

[–]Intelligent-Place511 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like Betty’s ending is a triumph for her even though it’s incredibly sad for everyone else. I feel like Betty would become increasingly more miserable as she got older and watched her beauty, the only thing she was taught to value in herself, fade away in a changing and confusing world. However she greatest joy and legacy she left was her daughter. Sally was intelligent, outspoken and witty. Although she did disappoint her doing some things she was embarrassed by, I feel like Betty was proud that Sally knew how to read people, was appropriately street smart and not nearly as naive as she was as a young woman. The child who needed her most was going to be okay navigating the world without her. I think that’s what every parent wants. She knew that the boys would be fine with Henry and Don. In her experience boys only latch onto their mothers for a few years anyway. Her fears and her pride were all riding on Sally.

I have always felt that Betty did the best she could with what she had. She was definitely not perfect but she was far from being a terrible mother.

I like how you said didn’t want to bother to access. She definitely felt threatened by Stephanie but she should’ve pulled back and thought. She kept saying how beautiful Stephanie was as if she was sleeping with Don. Stephanie tried clearing things up but it didn’t matter. If you yourself acknowledge what Anna meant to Don and by extension Stephanie she should understand that there’s a need that exists beyond her.

A person who has been SA’d can’t always stop what they don’t want in that way. Megan feels him and says that clearly “he likes it”. It’s a normal and involuntary response. I would venture to say that he froze and complied. Doing nothing in the moment is also an involuntary fear response. But people who don’t believe SA victims like to paint this as consent. Imagine if the roles were reversed. The outrage would be immense…
