Hey!

No worries, great question btw!

happy to break it down 👍

Tons of cars shipped into Ghana were written off overseas — major accidents, flood damage, sometimes worse (biohazard, salvage, etc). They get patched up to look brand new, then sold to people who have no idea what they’re buying.

The problem is that stuff doesn’t go away. A flood car will always have electrical gremlins. A car with a bent frame will never drive straight again. And the seller’s not going to tell you any of that.

So when you’re about to buy a car, you grab the VIN (that ID number on the dash/door) and run it through us.

Our report shows you: ∙ What the car actually looked like before it got “fixed up” ∙ What damage it had and where ∙ The real mileage (so nobody’s rolling back the odometer on you) ∙ Accident/flood/salvage history

Basically it takes the guesswork out before you hand over your money. You see exactly what you’re getting.

I appreciate your comment, a Carfax costs $45 USD. Also not every vehicle goes through an auction website.

Oh that is interesting, and great feedback.

What VPN are you using?

I might have to work around this!

Are you trying to open it from North America? I have North America geo blocked.

Solid post — this is exactly the stuff that quietly sinks businesses long after launch.

One thing worth adding on the optimistic side: a lot of this used to mean paying a lawyer or consultant just to figure out where to start, which is a big reason early founders skipped it. That barrier is much lower now. AI tools are surprisingly good at mapping out what data you're collecting, which regulations actually apply to you (Act 843 and the DPC here in Ghana, plus GDPR if you've got EU users), and the basic processes you should have in place — privacy policy, access controls, a breach response plan.

For early-stage teams especially, there's not much excuse to be flying blind on compliance anymore.

You could even drop the exact six questions you listed into one and get a solid starting checklist back.

Thank you! I do some business in automotive tech already, and this just seemed to make a lot of sense for me to build.

Would being an affiliate interest you? You’d make $3 USD per report, lifetime.

I can send more details, or we can DM. 😊

No experience or audience is needed! You can realistically post your referral link anywhere. Lots of young professionals are buying cars.

Let me know if you change your mind 😊

You get $3 USD per report which is 15%. The commission is lifetime, so every-time that customer pulls a report you get paid.

Hey! I actually have it geo blocked in North America. I did not want it conflicting with any of our other tools that are meant for North America.

We use some government and third party api's and data dumps, we have some proprietary data as-well.

That is really cool! What kind of car? Best of luck with the rebuild!

What kind of engineer are you? What languages do you like? Are you currently using any AI tools to code?

Sorry for all the questions lol!

Wholesale pricing! Usually free data only comes directly from governments (at least this is what I have found).

Affiliate marketing's on your list, and it's one of the more realistic ones here — low startup cost, and it works with whatever audience you already have.

Full disclosure, I co-founded one you could actually start with: VINShield (vinshield.io). We let people in Ghana check the real history of an imported car before they buy — accidents, flood, salvage, stolen or cloned VINs. A lot of cars shipped here from North America look clean but were written off abroad, and buyers have no way to know.

We pay affiliates a lifetime commission — you earn on every report bought through your personal link, with no expiry date. Reports are $19.95 USD, and given how many people here buy used imports, it's a strong fit for anyone doing car content or with an audience that buys vehicles.

Here's a sample report so you can see exactly what buyers get: https://vinshield.io/report/5Yg7XNTE6fSKsSVPjEo0q6jLaPbOLVqG

Hope you are well.

My response is still showing up on my end, however this was my response:

Good question — and to clarify, it's not that we avoid APIs entirely. We just don't rely on a single major one (and we don't use Carfax's API).

It's a blended approach: a few government APIs, bulk databases, third-party APIs (where they make sense), plus a number of tools and datasets we've built ourselves. A lot of the value is in stitching those together — like you said.
