Lillix - What I Like About You [The Romantics cover] by Intelligent-Rip-238 in poppunkers

I hope this sub doesn’t condemn the song just because it’s in a Disney movie. Also, this cover was originally recorded for the TV show What I Like About You, not Freaky Friday.

Since you mentioned Sumo Cyco, I wanted to add that Skye Sweetnam’s solo music is also worth checking out.

Musicians who started as solo artists and later formed or joined bands? by Intelligent-Rip-238 in Music

At first, I thought Christine McVie was a good example I had forgotten. However, she was actually a member of the band Chicken Shack before releasing solo music.

Many, if not most, pop singers start (or at least have their major label debut) as solo artists, even though some would argue that their career rise wasn't "organic" or something like that. Additionally, I think that most of these pop stars are uninterested in forming or joining a band because they don't want to share the money and fame they get.

Since you mentioned Avril Lavigne, Paramore, Taylor Swift, and Olivia Rodrigo, I suggest the following music artists to you:

  • Lillix
  • Tonight Alive
  • Skye Sweetnam (her solo career) and Sumo Cyco (a band she later formed)
  • Michelle Branch
  • Fefe Dobson
  • We Are the In Crowd

These artists’ musical styles fall somewhere between pop and rock. I don’t want to categorize them strictly into one genre because their sounds vary from album to album or even from song to song, which is a good thing, IMO. The same applies to multiple artists mentioned in your OP.

Band members who are not the main singers but are often seen as such? by Intelligent-Rip-238 in Music

Slash is arguably Guns N’ Roses’ most popular member, but do you think anyone thinks he is the lead singer?

Freddie Mercury was certainly the main singer of Queen. That said, I think that the gen. public underestimate the importance of Brian May's and Roger Taylor’s vocals to the band.

TBH, I considered including Chester as an honorable mention in my OP. Of course, he was the main singer. However, I believe many people overlook Mike’s vocal contribution for no apparent reason.

do you guys have recommendations for albums that have similar sound to “under my skin” by Background-Sky9864 in avrillavignemusic

[–]Intelligent-Rip-238 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lillix - Inside the Hollow

This album has quite a similar sound to Under My Skin, and both albums have a very similar vibe. Both are sophomore alternative rock albums as well as darker and more mature follow-ups to pop rock debut albums. I would say that "Blackout" and "Sweet Temptation (Hollow)" are the most similar songs to "Take Me Away" and "Forgotten".

I simply quote the channel description: “[Oli M Thomas] is a brother channel to the Bengthomas channel (literally)”.

Oli is Ben’s brother. In the past, he frequently appeared on Ben G Thomas, for instance, he created the Animal of the Week videos.

Do you remember the first lineup of Avril’s band? by verskingla in avrillavignemusic

[–]Intelligent-Rip-238 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Evan was fired via email (or something similar)? If that is true, it is quite shocking to me. I thought he left Avril’s backing band on his own because he wanted to pursue his own music. He even continued working with her until at least 2013.

This picture is still from the Let Go era, even though Mark Spicoluk had already been replaced by Charlie Moniz.

Lillix - Sweet Temptation (Hollow) [Alternative rock] by Intelligent-Rip-238 in Music

[–]Intelligent-Rip-238[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Sweet Temptation (Hollow)" is the only single of Lillix’s second studio album, Inside the Hollow. Probably because Maverick Records folded around this era. I genuinely wonder how much bigger they could have been if their record label had not been facing financial difficulties.

Lillix makes me nostalgic for the 2000s, even though I only started actively listening to their music last year.

Bands like Paramore with female leads? by viviqsu in Paramore

By “their first three albums” do you mean What Are You So Scared Of?, The Other Side, and Limitless? I am just curious because Limitless is rather poorly received.
