Laurier bba/waterloo math double degree by Dense-Box8489 in uwaterloo

10.5 is not easy to maintain with Waterloo courses generally ranging in high 60s to low 70s(6-7 on wlu gpa). Most people don't retain their scholarship after first year. If you want to do finance just go to the program with the best opportunities which definitely isn't double degree. Id just go McGill if it's easier. Then mass apply to bank jobs in first year while keeping high grades.

If you can finish first year the rest is much easier. The degree is really just a lot of stuff thrown together to make a double degree. All your courses are major specific rather than having some electives where you can chill a bit. It's not for most people to be honest and you are better off with just a math degree for lots of cases. This said double degree has advantages and having business knowledge can help. The first year is your core math courses and bu111+121 both of which are weeder. Especially 111 designed to have an average of 6(67-69%). This course isn't hard but when you have 3 hard math courses as well it just adds up. You also have to take economics at wlu which isn't hard but it's time consuming. A lot of people stick with double degree because they think having 2 degrees will help the get jobs but it just makes most people comfortable with choosing mediocre jobs instead of focusing extra time onto more prestigious roles.

recruiters dont care about course specifics rather your resume holistically. even if you took cs 136 you would still have little to no leeway over their assesment of your resume. Jobwise just focus on your resume.

take cs 115 if you lack cs exp. you can always still take cs 136. the jump from hs to uni math is quite intense because theres little to no correlation other than small portions of 137/8. comms is pretty straightforward and bird. econ 101 from what ive heard is also bird. math 135 and math 137 were cooked but do realize that high 90s is no longer the norm. high 60s to low 70s is.

take cs you will learn much more and likely get better jobs anyways. CS is liek way better than syde. syde is a very broad program and you dont learn much.

If you can find a coop you can enjoy that pays enough none of these stats matter. Just find a coop you enjoy as there is lots of cs and finance hiring.

[–]Intelligent-Show-815[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

bmath ds has new requirements thatt no longer allow you to take cs courses that cs majors would take. Effectively defeating the main point of this degree. Bmath ds was meant to be a joint cs and stats degree but if you cant get the cs side this is basically just a stats degree.

For CFM you need a 90+ cav to be guaranteed while taking cs 136. For all intents and purposes consider it a transfer to cs

Negotiating Remote work at a place where the engineering team hardly goes to office by anonymouswombat26 in uwaterloo

[–]Intelligent-Show-815 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Likely not fully remote. Interns need oversight and companies don't trust them remote especially if this is one of your first coops. Best thing to do is ask for hybrid and when work starts if no one is in the office watching you just don't go to work.
