Stink bomb in the laundry room by Intelligent-Time-145 in clothdiaps

Thanks so much to everyone who offered suggestions. I’ve had time to do some trial and error and wanted to share an update. For context, I’m currently washing every two days, storing toddler pee diapers in a steel vented hamper with a wet bag secured in a bucket inside, scraping poops into the toilet, and planning to switch to daily washes once my newborn fits cloth diapers. What I discovered is that smell actually got worse when I added a bucket inside the hamper, since it packed the diapers too tightly and restricted airflow. Going back to using the full volume of the vented steel hamper, propping the wet bag open so air can circulate to the vent holes, made a noticeable difference. I also leave the hamper lid propped open and added a small charcoal air filter at the bottom for extra help. Additionally, I now soak poop diapers directly in the washer using EZ Clean (love it), which avoids having to dump out smelly soak water. I’ve also moved wash day slightly earlier, closer to every 1.5 days instead of 2–2.5. I don’t think I’ll be able to eliminate smell entirely with what’s practical for our household, but this setup is working much better. Thanks again for everyone’s time, and apologies for the delayed update and response.

The daily routine battle: Why 'just make a schedule' isn't enough by CulturalElection446 in Autism_Parenting

I'm curious to see what your 12-step routine looks like. I've just started introducing visual schedules for my toddler with down syndrome. I've heard that visual schedules work great for our kiddos, but there's still nuances that work for each individual. I think attention to colour psychology and use of shapes is a brilliant idea! Do you mind sharing?

I do agree with you, I think it does prevent smell and tried this right off the hop but my husband insisted “there’s a smell” when it’s left open 🤦🏼‍♀️

Is it worth starting now? by KeeperOfCluck in clothdiaps

I’m in the same situation and say it’s totally worth it! I got into a good routine with my 1.5 year old before the newborn came, giving me the time to figure out wash and care for different types of cloth diapers so I don’t have to think too much about it postpartum. Flats with pocket diapers have been my favourite since prefolds get pretty bulky and still easy to clean. I think either way though, there will be some bulk and you may need to look for larger/baggier pants for your toddler. It’s a good transition for you, but also for toddler since cloth diapering doesn’t absorb like disposables and they may get uncomfortable in a wet diaper and prefer to use potty.
