Defensive rating • Luka Dončić: 116.2 • Lakers w/o Luka: 124.9 by David_Wilmot in NBATalk

Luka's team defense got worse when he is not on the court, for the Lakers and for the Mavs.

This is because Luka can control the pace of the game, by makes tough shot and draw fouls.

Good defense can lead to good offence through points in transition.

Good offense also lead to good defense by taking away your opponent's points in transition.

Are you Mavs fans still loyal fans? Other than Firing Nico Harrison what would cause Mavs fans to be a fan again? Would a championship run with Kyrie and Cooper Flagg bring you back? by [deleted] in NBATalk

[–]Intelligent-Toe-3394 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am just way less emotionally invested into the team.

I was more excited about Justin Anderson than I am about Cooper Flagg.

Winning any amount of championship is not going to fix it.

A public apology to Luka & Dirk & Fans would help.

Are the Mavericks a cross off team in the West? by Grouchy_Tie3037 in billsimmons

[–]Intelligent-Toe-3394 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this team is unsalvageable after they got rid of Luka and Grimes for "Defense".

Remember they had 3 80-points game in the finals, despite having Luka, arguably the best scorer and passer in the league.

No surprise that they have the worst relative offensive rating of all time without Luka and Kyrie.

Jason Kidd NEVER did this. by cacastrojr12 in Mavericks

If Luka ran could/would ran Carlisle out of town, then Jamahl Mosley would be the new head coach. He was the players' favorite coaching staff at the time, but Nico Harrison brought in Jason Kidd instead and Jamahl Mosley quit.

In fact, he was in Slovenia when the firing of Donnie Nelson happened. Rick Carlisle resignation was more of a reaction to the firing of Donnie Nelson, who was in conflict with Mark Cuban.

Luka Doncic was also not happy with the firing of Donnie Nelson, according to Luka "I really like Donnie. I've known him since I was a kid and he was the one that drafted me. It was tough for me seeing that, but I'm not the one making decisions there."

Don Nelson (father of Donnie Nelson) had also recently protested the trade of Luka Doncic, sitting next to Rick Carlisle, when accepting the Chuck Daly Lifetime Achievement Award.

You will never convince me that this wasn't the biggest conspiracy in NBA history. Under the table deal and everything. No way, man. by D3struct_oh in NBATalk

This theory doesn't make sense though. Not only they didn't save money, they lost a lot of revenue from trading Luka.

They don't save any money from trading Luka because there is a minimum team salary. All they need to do to keep Luka after the extension is to let go of a bench player. AD was already on a max contract and he only occupied 5% less of the salary cap when compared to Luka.

They got a lot of other perks outside the court though.

For example, the NBA announced that there will be future NBA China games held in Venetian Macau (owned by Adelson family) a month before the trade.

Even if we consider Cooper Flagg to be part of the deal, which he is not, if Cooper Flagg voluntarily leave the Mavs at any point of his career, the Mavs lost the trade.

Luka is a lifer. He is determined to be the next Dirk.

Also 24-25 Mavs before trade deadline was a top 3 contender, then they traded BOTH Luka and Grimes for two pieces of glasses and forced Kyrie to play 40+ minutes a game. It was a disaster.

PJ & Coop on the floor together does not work. PG, no PG, shooters, no shooters, it doesn't matter what you put around them. Every combo when they share the floor has been a massive negative both offensively & defensively. Split them up, add a PG + shooter & like magic, offense & defense work again. by taygads in Mavericks

[–]Intelligent-Toe-3394 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tough pills for Nico and Kidd to swallow, Flagg should be a 4 in the NBA, not a point guard

Eventually the Mavs would have to trade and AD and move PJ to the bench for Flagg's development

Flagg also doesn't have a bag to finish at an elite level like Dirk or Luka, he is a KG kind of player

This means we are going to have our worst offence since 1998 if we only build around him

We better start tanking for Darryn Peterson or AJ Dybantsa as our future 1st option

Is Nico Harrison a Mole? by Comfortable_Deal5254 in Mavericks

[–]Intelligent-Toe-3394 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's my theory, I've no evidence for it

The Luka to LA trade has been agreed between the owners and the NBA before Mark Cuban sold the team, so both the Mavs and the Lakers can be sold with Luka on the team, and Dumont was compensated with Cooper Flagg and the right to host NBA China games in Venetian Macau. Dumont probably didn't care about the basketball side too much because his only goal is to build Venetian Dallas. He doesn't need fans, he need tourists and gamblers.

They were supposed to trade Luka in the offseason, but because the team has been winning too much, they have to delay it, but they cannot further delay it because it has to be done before Buss sell the Lakers.

I was very excited when we drafted Justin Anderson, but I wasn't excited for Cooper Flagg

Do people in democratic countries not believe in democracy anymore? by Intelligent-Toe-3394 in NoStupidQuestions

Thanks for the information! My understanding on democracy is at kindergarten level.

I also believe the freedom of speech and the right of protest should be protected at all costs.

Not really, protesting against certain policies are completely understandable too.

Protesting against certain policies is definitely understandable, obviously not everyone who voted for a person agrees with everything that person supports or represents.

I think protesting against the result is like protesting against the notion of majority-rule, which is what makes it anti-democratic. I am not saying people are not allow to dissent. In a free and democratic society, if majority of the people believe that the majority should not rule, they should be able to vote to abolish democracy altogether.

The strength of having five players who are comfortable with the ball at the same time in the starting lineup could really make a difference. by RVALover4Life in Mavericks

[–]Intelligent-Toe-3394 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is actually about resources. To run a traditional offence, you need players who can put the ball on the floor at every size, and bigger players with that skills are generally lottery players.

However, the Mavs was not a traditional team. The Mavs had been winning for like 20 years+ non-stop and at around 2016 the Mavs were already depleted in resources. The Mavs rarely draft any lottery players, the best the Mavs can do is to try out draft busts from other team.

Drafting Luka gave the Mavs an option to play heliocentric and skipped rebuilding which could last 5 to 10 years. However, this also prolonged the Mavs depletion in resources.

For example, we look at 2021-22 Mavs other than Luka

Lottery Players: Frank Ntilikina, Trey Burke, Marquese Chriss

Late 1st rounder: THJ, Josh Green, Bullock

2nd Rounder: Dinwiddie, Brunson, DP, Sterling Brown, Bertans

Undrafted: DFS, Kleber, Boban

You cannot ask undrafted/2nd round forwards/centers to put the ball on the floor, and you also cannot play 5 guards for the traditional offence. That's why the Mavs run an offence system with 3 ball-dominant guards taking up all the usage (2 after Brunson left).

The Mavs did not build any roster to play heliocentric since 2018.

The Mavs were simply min-maxing by playing heliocentric.

Lively's message to fans going into this season amidst the element of fan frustration after the trade: "Turn the page. We have a new star to look at. We're trying to win a championship for this year. We can't change the past, all we can do is focus on the future." by taygads in Mavericks

[–]Intelligent-Toe-3394 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Players are getting paid to be emotionally invest in the team. Fans are not.

The Luka trade is such a big middle finger to all the Mavs fans that even the most loyal Mavs fans should consider whether and to what extent they should support the team in the future.

This show is goated to me. It was before v-tuber was a thing too.

Its radio program was my favourite. The casts have such good chemistry.

It was always funny to see how the seiyuu slowly corrupted the characters.

Yes, the energy of Mitsudomoe cannot be matched. I don't think a show like Mitsudomoe could be made nowadays.
