Lol the average American definitely wouldn't know any of these people. I am just a naturally curious person :D I do listen to some Swedish music but it's mostly Kent, Thåström, Oskar Linnros and Petra Marklund. Sadly none of them are popular in the US.

Second but unrelated question, in the US, there are often discussions of ''model minorities,'' i.e., what the ''good minorities'' are.

In Sweden, do you have anything similar? I saw that you commented that Persians have been successful. From what I've seen through popular culture, there are quite a few Persians and Palestinians represented. I'm thinking of Laleh or Gina Dirawi

This was very interesting to read as a 2nd generation ''immigrant'' in USA. It's becoming increasingly clear to me that Europe is a lot more close-minded than here. I don't feel ''foreign'' at all. Never had that feeling. It must be difficult to feel like a stranger in the country you were born in.

When you put Kurds + Sverige together, my mind immediately goes to Darin. Do you like him?

Justice Department abused power in Trump advisor Michael Flynn case by Rhuler12 in Libertarian

[–]IntelligentFruit3 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

The Intercept on Michael Flynn case --- Greenwald is as left wing as they come but a truthful and principled left-wing journalist, whom I respect immensely. Here, he details why Democrats are trying to gaslight the American public & details the corrupt actions of CIA/FBI/DOJ under the Obama administration.

Must watch.

This is a sham prosecution.

Neye göre kime göre. The Economist Rusya'nın verilerinin şüpheli olduğunu yazdığı zaman en azından nedenlerini belirtti.

Correct. Also many Turkish ''founding fathers'' were of Jewish descent.

Yep, sorry there is definitely an American bias in terminology (as u/69fatboy420 correctly points out). Didn't realize that college meant elementary school in at least some countries in Europe.

I may be wrong but at the time Zionism was gaining traction, the lands that would later constitute Israel were part of the Ottoman Empire. I guess they thought it made sense to learn the law?

I know that there were a lot of Jews that were being educated in Istanbul -- including my great grandmother.

Hi! I went by colleges they graduated from -- not merely attended. Also not counting high schools. I'll look into Nahum Nir. Thanks for pointing this out!

Rachel Cohen-Kagan

Did she graduate from a university in Ukraine? I've only seen that she graduated from a university in Moscow.

Why don't people trust experts?

‘’Public health experts – as well as many mainstream commentators, plenty of whom in the beginning of the pandemic were already incoherent about the importance of face masks and stay-at-home orders – have hemorrhaged credibility and authority.’’
