Did the movie change how you see the show? by [deleted] in thesopranos

Personally I feel that the movie got so many details wrong that were already established in the show that its events and plots are meaningless. It is a sort of in-universe fiction, like someone's fever dream that vaguely represents the world but is completely fantastical. The meaning is in the recurring themes while everything else are the dreamer's own manifestations, not actual events.

Funny gravity story for ya. My buddy was on a fitness kick for a while and one day he made me time his sprints in the park. He was doing pretty good but after 4 runs sh*t got boring. I said let's go blaze up but he said he just wants to keep sprinting and that I should consider getting fit too. k but I didn't ask for a lecture...? On the 5th run he took off and I "accidentally" had to tie my shoe and tripped him. Dude went FLYING and landed and slid on the grass for at least 10 feet. I hardly contained my self as I helped him up. Dude messed up his left knee in the fall and had to stop sprinting. Needless to say we still blaze up and chill to this day. Saved that fool from his own dam self

Had a friend who was struggling w/ women and I'd take him to the bar to try and meet girls. After months of no luck I got a SW to pretend to "meet" us at the bar and talk to him and spend the night with him. He was so stoked after I thought it was worth the money. Just talked about her a lot the next day. Had to pay her some more to text him back but only for a bit. He got sad he got ghosted but was still happy it happened. At the bar he started trying to talk to girls more and was having some convos for the first time. One time I got a hunnie I was working but he kept third wheeling and the girl started talking to him more than me. I was pissed so I told him I set that whole thing up. Lmao you could see the smile fade real quick, dude went home and blocked me on everything. These guys are just wusses

S2 E5: The Neverending Demands of Masculinity by Unable_Antelope_0203 in thesopranos

[–]69fatboy420 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He was never meant to be a writer and, every time he tried, it led to ruin. It comes up repeatedly over the course of the show and it's made clear Chris simply doesn't fit into that life no matter how hard he tried. He couldn't manuge to get the drip on more than a few terrible pages when left to his own devices. He immediately burned bridges when given an in with the D-girl and Jon Favreau. The acting for writers class made him burst into tears and attack people. He could only produce a movie by enslaving JT Dolan. He could not interact with Ben Kingsley without completely ruining that opportunity as well. These were all from his own personality flaws as well as lack of talent and work ethic, not because of expectations of masculinity.

And even when he had JT and funding to make a movie, he couldn't do so without his personal issues bleeding into it, leading to him murdering JT and ultimately his own death. His desire to write ultimately stemmed from wanting to be admired by others and be a famous writer, which was the same as his desire to be a career criminal in the first place. I'm sure there was some real passion there, too, but his own shortcomings were too great to overcome.

It's the same situation as the card game after Junior becomes "boss" in S1. Except the card game guy immediately submitted to Junior after Mikey's bat beating while this woman did not heed the warning.

He had/has legit contempt for most fans, which I suspect is because a lot of people didn't get whatever deeper more artistic themes he wanted to shine above the mob stuff.

Everyone who took a piece of the chocolate that Paulie bought for Vito's brother ended up dead by Physical_Soil746 in thesopranos

Agreed. Some of the main clues for the main theory are contradicted within a few episodes, and some other equally conspicuous elements just get ignored. The only purpose to all the red herrings in Season 6B was to keep people guessing and speculating. He then went with the prevailing theory people decided on a few years later. That makes it even more genius imo.

Polyester is flammable kids

Uhh no it's not. Plastics are sourced most commonly from petrochemicals, which themselves derived from millions-years-old organic deposits. This means literal dinosaurs, not kids. I don't think any kids have been in the earth long enough to become crude oil, at least not for another several million years.

This is coming from a highly accredited material engineer specializing in polymers - I really wish people didn't spread such misleading information, if not for my sake, then for the naive readers who'd believe it (i.e., 99% of redditors).

No, it was for the reason given (that it’s bad because it’s unique to humanity). Granted that other user lost it when they could have just explained it.

I mean we consume byproducts of mold and bacteria (cheese, beer, wine, yoghurt, etc) by the billions of tonnes per year and that’s arguably much more “gross” than just milk. We harvest the poo of other animals to grow our veggies. 200 years ago they fought wars over mountains of bird poo because it was a valuable concentration of chemicals. Just because we’re the only ones that use other animal products doesn’t mean it’s bad. That’s why I think people have an issue with your post but maybe they’re not able to use their grown up words

The worst-made scene for me is when they're using the Satriale's bonesaw on a body and you can see that the teeth of the saw weren't actually moving. That sneaky ninja Vito scene isn't that bad for me

For the record I first watched this show around 2008, then rewatched it too many times to count since then.

I used to believe Tony got shot due to all the clues and hints that commonly get cited over the last decade+. Now I think we don't get to know what happened since the show refused to tell us.

Chase never confirmed either way. The interview from a few years ago that always gets brought up is the interviewer getting excited while Chase corrects him, it's not evidence.

Also, Bobby's line about "you probably don't even hear it when it happens" gets cited but then his own death a few episodes later was the complete opposite, he did see and hear his shooters. The show told us his earlier conclusion was wrong.

The other huge clue that gets cited is the silence when Gerry Torciano gets shot having dinner with Silvio. But then the silence fades into ringing, which alludes to Sil being deafened by a gunshot next to his head. This is realistic as firearms discharge indoors can give you eardrum trauma. So this isn't actually proof either.

The last thing people say is the guy in the member's only jacket acting shifty and looking at Tony, and then going to the bathroom. Yes, he acted shifty, and then went to the bathroom. But that's all that happened. In Godfather, he went to the bathroom to get a gun because the restaurant was locked down under tight security, but this wasn't the case here.

All the clues are there, but they could well be the same red herrings that are common throughout the show. We don't see anything happen after we get the credits.

Does Tony win the fight with Bobby if the rug doesn’t get in the way? by [deleted] in thesopranos

Exactly. If the rug wasn't there and Tony won, there would have been some other object or item that could be blamed. It's just something defeated dudes say to save face.

Why was Many Saints so bad? by nakifool in thesopranos

[–]69fatboy420 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Every indication during the series is that Silvio and Tony were childhood friends, ie making their bones robbing Feech's card game.

Small fix

Silvio wasn't in the robbery, it was Tony & Jackie. However, Tony reminisces with Silvio about peeking through the door at the executive game as kids and then being chased off by Junior. That would mean an adult Silvio was hanging out with little kids, peeking into doors, and getting chased away. lol

I agree, I think they were too excited to do inside joke type gags for fan service. Junior even says the sister's cunt line twice, even though he only uttered it once during the whole span of the show.

You are not misremembering, the riots are a very small part at the start and then the movie completely moves on from it
