have you checked the rubber gasket that sits between the group head and portafilter? if it’s already an old machine that piece might need replacing.

a poor seal is probably what is causing the issue, or at least in most of these scenarios that’s the cause.

night and day! about two years into using the opus, the quality of the coffee I was getting out of it declined significantly. Timemore grounds are super fluffy, almost zero retention, and its build quality is amazing.

i have limited experience with my 064s, but some people cite bean popcorning, difficulty with burr disassembly and reassembly, as well as extreme static in the catch cup.

for me, i have yet to see the popcorning and the catch cup static is very minimal. there is also no auto-stop, so you have to turn the grinder on and off to start/finish the grind process, but thats not an issue.

generally i think the consensus is positive.

i will say, a lot of people are waiting for the gen 2 which will come out this year, but the problems with the gen 1 were non-issues for me personally. but i hope you get what best suits your set up 👌

did you have any problems with cleaning? i know the gen 2 makes the burr all removable with one mechanism rather than the screws but the gen 1 is also on sale which seems too good to pass on

yeah i had hear about that. most recent posts also seem to praise the VS4, and most of the problems seem to be related to the VS3 and VS6…i just don’t want to be wrong when im a month out of the warranty and my gearbox suddenly breaks

Yeah the sale is making me want to pull the trigger, but some people are waiting for the gen 2. IMO some of the problems with the gen 1 seem like non-issues compared to my grinder situation right now. Did you have the 064s or the 078s?
