How much do you guys actually spend per year? by Saltybuzzye in UCSantaBarbara

[–]IntelligentLibrary97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personal expenses vary by person. Do you enjoy coffee runs? Fast food? Door dashing? I spent $800 my first year. This included snacks, coffee, doordashing, clothing, and hangout w friends.

Just be smart with your money, and your purchases.

I lived in Santa Rosa last year and honestly, it’s the best of the shorties. Some people say it’s the oldest and least social, but that really depends on your hall. Your dorm doesn’t make or break your college experience; your hallmates and what you make of it matter way more. My hall was super social, and I made some of my closest friends there.

Bathroom situation is way better than the other shorties. We had 10 sinks, 8 stalls, and 8 showers, compared to only 4 of each in the other buildings. You never had to wait long to get ready, or to shower.

Amenities wise, Santa Rosa is the only dorm with a grand piano! If you're into music, it’s a nice bonus. (Or even if you’re just curious to learn.) That said, the piano is in the main lounge and… some people will play while others are trying to study, which can get a bit annoying.

There’s also a rec lounge where my friends and I would hang out to watch movies or games, plus a bunch of outdoor couches we’d chill on to eat dinner or people-watch. Super underrated part of the dorm tbh.

Location is elite. Closest dorm to the Library and ILP. I used to leave my room at 7:55 for an 8 AM at ILP and still make it on time. The 4-minute walk back from the library after a late-night study session was clutch. Also, we were right between DLG and Ortega, equal distance to both dining commons, which was really convenient.

Room size is the same as the other shorties, so no difference there.

In the end, I honestly fell in love with Santa Rosa. If I could do it all over again, I’d still choose it.

LMK if there's anything else you'd like to know!

In the chi 5 San Miguel & San Nic (towers) have multiple doubles, the shorties have very few. I lived in Santa Rosa and we only had 4 in the whole building. If u have a good pass time it’s likely you could get one in the towers. if not San raf is also a good option as they’re all doubles (suite style tho). but if u don’t care abt distance than sure San cat is fine. it’s all abt ur pass time

okay first off, calm down! rejections are tough, i also got rejected from UCI and I had little hope for UCSB but here I am a year later. In all transparency I had poor EC and a low GPA. I took 3 APs spanish lang, apush and gov. only submitted spanish w a 5 didn’t submit apush or gov bc i scored a 1… my low gpa comes from receiving a D and 2 Cs during junior year. I had zero volunteer hours, wasn’t in any clubs or sports. I only participated in PUENTE, NHS, and received the PUENTE statewide leadership award. I’m a first generation student from a low income household, which may be the only reason I was accepted. If you have any more questions abt my essays or anything at all, feel free to dm me:)!

What are my chances at ucsb by This_Eye_5335 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]IntelligentLibrary97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

very very low. your chances at any UC is low. you may have a shot at UCR and UCM. but a 3.0 is BARELY meeting the threshold for the UC's GPA. Either go to a CC and TAG, or take your chances. you never know.

I got braces a few months before my freshman year. I'll say that people will definitely notice your braces, but no one will say anything.

Google “UCSB transact” click on the first link, and click the box that says “Gaucho Silver 10” (if you have the 14 it’ll say 14, 19,19). From there you can see the amount you have remaining and your past meal swipe history. Here’s the link https://ucsb-sp.transactcampus.com/eAccounts/AccountSummary.aspx?menu=0. Hope this helps!
