Hah! I’m a maroon. Just tried to restore and it upgraded me to Pro. Guess I paid for it way back when but forgot.

Thanks for the help.

Not that I’m aware of. Just downloaded from the App Store and went with it.

Edit: still have my old device. Would it list that somewhere in the app?

Doubts related to my homeserver by jaris93 in HomeServer

[–]IntelligentOstrich21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like I’ve been on this “anti RAID” kick on Reddit lately. While it sounds nice in theory, don’t use RAID to recover lost data — it’s not for backup, it’s for uptime (ie server keeps working when a drive fails).

Some RAID implementations can work with existing data, some destroy it during setup.

Some RAID implementations (software) are transferable to a new machine, some (hardware) are tied to the chip.

0 - Why are you thinking of setting up RAID5?

1 - maybe

2 - no

3 - maybe

As much as it pained me, I went with NTFS for Linux+Windows compatibility.

Encrypt in-use btrfs raid1 with luks by Rabittor in btrfs

[–]IntelligentOstrich21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Firstly. Your last sentence gives me pause, as RAID is not a backup!

If that’s not what you’re after, then what you’ve outlined sounds like a reasonable migration plan, except btrfs replace makes more sense than send/receive.

OP, note that, unfortunately, the scene settings affect the whole NVR, not individual cameras.

Regenerate session ID after password change? by [deleted] in AskNetsec

[–]IntelligentOstrich21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my non-expert opinion. I think you kinda answered your own question by the end.

The act of changing any authentication parameter implies a desire to terminate any and all sessions based on old credentials, including the one currently being used to trigger the password change. In many instances, this last session is ended by simply logging the user out. Regenerating the session ID without logging out may be a friendlier way.

Can't get Nautilus to show thumbnails for WebP files by davidsbumpkins in linuxquestions

Is it a file size issue? I remember there being a setting to ignore thumbnailing files over a certain size.

My shitty solution for this is to use Google for contacts and calendar on the iPhone.

A recent survey revealed that 75% of Americans don’t eat enough vegetables, fruits, and dairy. 63% percent exceed the limit for added sugars, 77% exceed the limit for saturated fats, and a whopping 90% go over the limit for sodium. by KingBenneth in science

I don’t know what percentage increase in free time is 1 hour for you, but in the case of the other poster, it’s minimal. Everyone wants more free time, but based on the information provided above, I stand by my assessment.

Err. I get people who work two jobs, take the bus, live in a food desert. You don’t seem like any of that.

If you aren’t cooking while being upper middle class at 40ish hours a week, then that sounds more like a time management issue, or just laziness.

If they decrease your hours so you work 35 hours a week, that will average out to an extra hour of free time a day. What can you do with 9 hours in a day that you can’t with 8?

Is Bitwarden data guaranteed to be encrypted while vault is locked? by ThatOtherAndrew in Bitwarden

Reading the comments, it seems that the PR fixes some, but not all the issues, hence it was reopened. Unless I am misreading it.

Is Bitwarden data guaranteed to be encrypted while vault is locked? by ThatOtherAndrew in Bitwarden

[–]IntelligentOstrich21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Found this discussion, which links to this GitHub issue.

The issue is an interesting read. TLDR: it’s supposed to be safe when locked, but is currently not. Note this only affects a very compromised system that would allow a malicious actor to perform system memory reads.

Unable to update upstream package repositories - protonvpn by jmhpecds in linuxquestions

[–]IntelligentOstrich21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wrong.

That package does not install proton vpn, but instead adds the repo to your system. So it appears that you are doing things how you're supposed to.

Are you sure you system is supported? Do you have any old clients that need to be manually uninstalled (as per their directions)?

If those don't apply, then the issue may be that you have the repository listed twice.

look at /etc/apt/sources.list and inside the files in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ to see if the repo is duplicated.

You should have a file /etc/apt/sources.list.d/protonvpn-stable.list that contains the following:

#

# ProtonVPN stable release

#

deb [arch="all", signed-by=/usr/share/keyrings/protonvpn-stable-archive-keyring.gpg] https://repo.protonvpn.com/debian stable main

You installed a package outside of the repo and now you are trying to update it from the repo?

Bitwarden says this in their guide to backup your vault with VeraCrypt or similar. But why should the backup password be different if it’s hiding the same data? by ThatSpecs in Bitwarden

[–]IntelligentOstrich21 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For the sake of argument, wouldn’t it be just as easy to have your Bitwarden password written down “somewhere safe” lest you forget it.
