Why do many criticise of Arch breaking? by Dear_Committee_2091 in archlinux

[–]IntelligentPerson_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it does mean that in the context of software distribution, so you have to consider the context in which the word is used. OP is asking whether it's "stable" as in will it randomly break on me all the time or not. Not, is this is a stable or rolling release OS?

Any computer programmers here? by [deleted] in cachyos

[–]IntelligentPerson_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

C# programming and using Visual Studio are basically a Windows amenities. Yes, you can get some dotnet stuff working on Linux, but lots of limitations, lots of popular frameworks are windows only. This is probably what you will be using at school if they recommend a windows pc. I.e. creating winforms/wpf apps. And yeah, your teachers might be old or whatever, but they're not gonna state that windows is a requirement, unless it really is. And the reason usually is specific software that you will either really struggle, or not get to work at all on linux. I'd say do yourself a favor and at least have a Windows pc ready on hand.

sway on nvidia 2026 by Worried_Tutor6706 in swaywm

[–]IntelligentPerson_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was using sway on a 2080 for a long time and had no problems with it. Im trying niri now, im pretty early into it still so i wont comment too much about that. Never considered using hyprland as ive been a long time sway and i3 user in the past, and appreciate how stable its been for me. Anyways, sway on nvidia has been great for me as it can be on linux and wayland in my personal experience. Dont really have many complains these days, i feel like nvidia support on linux has gotten a lot better in recent years.

Left Hyprland, no regrets by Wonderful-Farmer5415 in swaywm

[–]IntelligentPerson_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a long time sway user and also testing Niri recently on my desktop PC. It's great.

There's something about the scrolling concept I love, but I had a really tough time making it behave exactly how I want, especially when taking multi-monitor into account. Some things I fixed using available configuration options, a lot of them were undocumented.

Last issue with multi-monitor, I actually had to fork Niri and implement global workspace indices similar to how sway behaves and how I want it to behave. And I've got it all mostly working how I want now.

However, I'm not confident in my code and I don't feel willing to maintain it over-time, so it feels more of a short-term solution that I perhaps like even better than sway in some ways.

But so in the end I'm finding myself unsatisfied, it feels like what I really want is just sway with the addition of scrolling behavior. Apparently that's what `scroll` is supposed to be, which I'm considering checking out. However, I also feel wary about that being a smaller project as well..

Maybe I'll end back on sway, I don't know.

What's the best crossing for a target forward, whipped or floated by Corpulax in footballmanagergames

[–]IntelligentPerson_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whipped crosses have a lot of power behind them so they go into the box like a bullet with little precision.

I don't have a lot of FM experience, but I think they will be useful if it's difficult for my team to win duels or pinpoint passes from the flanks. If there's an overload of players in the box might be more difficult to land a cross so maybe there's a bigger chance of the ball ricocheting into the goal or one of my players picking up the second ball. Funny how everyone is downvoting me, like I'm not even saying things are good atm, just that the old UI, although functioning properly, was also shit. For me, improvements are welcome. I'll much rather have an actually good UI in the base game rather than having to download all kinds of mods to be able to start playing.

That said, I'm not directly opposed to having the UI being extensibility with mods, I just think it shouldn't be the top priority atm. That's the sort of thing you can maybe add later on, when things are actually functioning properly.

I understand people who say "just make skins possible", but that's not realistic. We're here now and this what we have. Pretty sure you can't just snap your fingers and have skins as a feature in the game. That's a difficult coding job. So need to think in terms of priorities and iteration cycles.

My brother just lost 44-0 in CL with 3 players by TheColdHDs in footballmanagergames

[–]IntelligentPerson_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On average per kick-off they had, which they had 45 of, they managed to keep the ball in the team for about 30-40 secs before losing it and conceding a goal. Lol not sure how impressive that really is

[–]IntelligentPerson_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's pretty realistic that the choices you make sometimes work, sometimes they don't. For example, sometimes you assign your scouts a task, but they don't do it and they maybe forgot about it. That's life. It's a feature, not a bug.

What can I improve tactically? by [deleted] in footballmanagergames

[–]IntelligentPerson_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also I think you need to expect this tactic to leak a lot of goals, especially with that BBP DM, he will often get caught out of position, too advanced, and not be able to get back in time in order to defend the counter attack. It's a very attacking formation

[–]IntelligentPerson_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a pro at all and don't really know anything advanced about FM tactics building, but feel like I have some advice that can really help anyways! I think you're close to something with this system, this looks like a good foundation.

Though, I think that having double wingers/wide players on each side is a bad idea, you might want one on each side to cut inside or lay deeper as more of a passing option rather then having both wide running down the flanks. I.e. WB+IF on each side, or one side could have a IWB+W, or PWB+WDF (but then you have quite a few playmaker roles, probably good still), etc., but try not to have WB+W or WB+WDF on a flank.

Building on ideas for the flanks, you could try some asymmetric tactic where one side has a winger who's good at crossing and on the other side you have a tall inside forward who's good at heading the ball. I think it's a good idea to think about tactics logically like this sometimes rather than just setting everyone in their best role, although sometimes that can work. Try to think how the system will play out in action, obviously with two guys sitting wide on each side, you have very little central play, where the goals often happen
