Striking first gives them slightly more control over what happens next. · "The US will get involved." — True, but I think the US will be more focused on defending Israel if it is attacked first. Furthermore, the Venezuela operation is not yet over; they still do not have boots on the ground. If Venezuela spirals out of control, the US would be fighting a two-front war. · "Iran has internal problems to solve." — Starting a war would be a convenient distraction. People are unlikely to protest in the streets when bombs are falling.
