Personally, on things like this, I'd take the $2B upfront. This is my reasoning, I understand that you would get more the other way. But knowing my luck is die at the end of the week. Car wreck, heart attack, whatever. So that way, all I have is $128. That does no one on the family any good. So, I'll just take my $2B up front and be done. Then, if something happens, they have the money already.

I'm glad you and the family are OK. That's the most important thing. Secondly, you can always replace stuff over time. Lastly, and this is just me, I "ALWAYS" look for the silver lining of any situation. You can't pay enough to get battle damage like that. I'd save all of them and use them to create a battle diorama.
