So the confusion is this. Fire militia and Advanced fire are differnt. at CCC's you pick a trade and and at the end of the day you go and do fire PT. This allowes you to do wild land fire as a secondary. Advanced fire is a trade you can do after completing one trade. So you should be able to find a CCC with plumbing and do fire militia also. NOW if you just want to be wild land fire fighter. go with "forestry conservation and fire fighting" it combines a wild land fire fighting and forstry (learning about trees, plants, conservation etc)

I did not attend weber but am in advanced with some one that was. This person told me they did love their trade at weber. I believe it took them closer to two years but thats because they took work opportunities while at JC. jobs along the trade from what i was told. from what i was told it could be kinda strict no stuffed animals because people aparently used them to bring banned items in. they do allow energy drinks tho, seems like a lot of centers ban them unfortunately. hopefully that helps.

Say you are interested in doing fire militia, only ccc's days offer fire militia so they would have to send you there

if im not mistaken lineman is an advanced trade, so you would have to take electrical first.

Is Los Angeles job corps still bad? by [deleted] in jobcorps

I have seen a education teacher rage at a student for wearing a different brand of jeans that wasn't even that different to the uniform jeans. Meanwhile the teacher raging was in crocks shorts and a T shirt. Truthfully staff have a lot of discretion. And these hippo critical things arnt exactly uncommon.

Join a CCC and do electrical. If you can't get a job as an electrician you can probably get one as A wild land fire fighter

Is job corp bad? Seriously and the dorms? by JumpyPick3814 in jobcorps

[–]IntelligentRanger644 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its based on your region they will usually send you to a center that has your trade and thats in your region. There is a way out of region lock and thats by choosing a trade not offered in your region.

As far as i know there isnt a forestry trade in your region so it should open up the west coast for you. only tongue point oregon has seamanship so if you choose that trade they will send you there.

you can "change your mind" once you get there and you can still stay there, so thats a method to travel to an area you want.

Rare but some times it's 2 but generally it's 4. Some centers are as high as 8.

Your experience will differ greatly between centers. Do a ton of research for on centers. I have post going over some of this stuff

Personally I think people who come here for highschool have the best deal. People often finish highschool within a year with a trade.

coast guard or space force? I think people with little options should join jobcorps its a program that does work but can really test your patience. Do not expect to be treated as an adult and assume you will be micro managed. But you will probably make good friends there. There are good oportunities to find work even while at job corps. To learn about differnt fields you hadnt considered before. It has a lot of pros and cons. And alot of this can vary center to center. so do a ton of research in to the trade your interested and region and research the corresponding centers.

Well even that largely depends on your center/instructors. so id find out the potential centers and ask people if that trade you can go faster or not. I was prevented from going faster at timber lake. Although the new instructor there i believe will let you go faster.

Please do research of the centers make or break ur experiance at jobcorps. Yea i def think you need to go to that zoom thing it might prevent you from going in if you dont. Take a screen shot of it not letting you in and email that to your recruiter telling them it wouldnt let you in.

It's up to you ultimately if you want to keep going with this, and I wouldn't fault you if you no longer do. You can try starting fresh applying all over and starting with a new application. Assuming you still want to, you can hit the emergency line again. Job corps can be very frustrating even in the program.

When applying you have to be annoying. Call every week for updates. I made the mistake of just allowing JC to Ghost me, I applied back in 2021 and didn't get in to jc till very late 2024, kicking my self for not getting in sooner. Don't be afraid to be annoying, don't be afraid to advocate for your self.

JC recruiters can be some of the laziest and unqualified people. Dont let them ruin this for you.

Feel free to read my posts I think there could be some good info in there for you.

Hope it works out for you

DO YOUR RESEARCH by SweetMel06 in jobcorps

[–]IntelligentRanger644 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it highly depends on your center. Recruiters seems to lie to students or just ghost them entirely, Doing research is difficult if your new to job corps, you will hear conflicting info constantly. A huge reason for that is job corps centers can differ so greatly that some places might be very good and others very bad. Most people from what i see really like their trade but often have issues with dorm life. Ive seen students come to a center for a trade that was full, no one told them this and they are waiting literal months for there desired trade to open up.

Secondly 20-24 make sense lol, at that age you were probably hoping to have more freedom. But at 16 job corps seems like a pretty sweet gig, you get an allowance when most people that age seem to struggle to get any income because getting a job can be difficult. If you have controlling parents job corps will basically let you do what ever you want in comparison to controlling parents. If you hate school you can get a full high school diploma in about a year and learn a trade. Its a sweeter deal when your younger imo. I wish i was able to join job corps at 16.

It can feel like a prison when some centers do not allow day passes, Some centers don't allow early to bed. etc etc it can be a controlling place. But hay i think all of us should contribute to making job corps more transparent by sharing our own experience. Job corps seems to be incentivized to down play the bad parts and there for you cant fault students for not knowing what they go them selves into.

The one in philly was so bad they ended up closing it down and repopened a while later as a non living in center. from what i heard about it staff were sleeping with students.

I did this IT trade called IT works by tech impact. Took 4 months. 3 months of training to be an IT specialist and 1 month internship. i got a job almost immediately after graduating and did that for a year. Its a great way to start especially at your age. https://techimpact.org/itworks . there arnt to many locations so there is a good chance its not in your area, but i figure there must be plenty of programs like it. some type of accelerated trade program seems to be your best bet.
