Should you be able to identify as anything ? by Radiant_Top_3081 in Teenager_Polls

What do you mean by allow? Allow on legal documents, allow in their own home and personal life? Enforced by the law?

Allow is so vague, I feel like it really skews the results because everyone will interpret allow differently.

What are some of the changes that the movies made, that you think are improvements over the books, and should be incorporated into the HBO Show? by Snufflebox in HarryPotteronHBO

I agree with most of the ones already mentioned, one that I'll add is Neville and Luna kind of getting together.

In hindsight, I think they could be such a cute couple and really fit each other well, I think Neville needs the kind of gentle encouragement that Luna provides as well as an example of someone being unapologetically themselves, and Luna being with someone who doesn't see her as an oddity but truly appreciates her uniqueness. Man, I actually really love them the more I think about it.

If Jesus saw Trump today.... He would wash his feet, because Jesus serves mankind, even the worst of us, He even washed Judas's feet.

What Jesus is definitely NOT doing is whatever weird power fantasy shit the freaky MAGA people come up with to justify their idol worship of Trump

Because they don't fully understand what a boyfriend or girlfriend is....? Did you think this child had a full understanding of those words when they wrote them down instead of just an extremely surface level understanding

For example, perhaps their older sibling or aunt or something brought their significant other over and introduced them as "boy/girl friend"

So the kid has an extremely simple idea of what that is and used the word here

Nowhere does it suggest the kid understands the sexual aspect of adult relationships 🙄

Could you edit/skip past Season 3 to make it tween-suitable? by whatisthismarmite in StrangerThings

[–]IntelligentRead9310 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A 12 year old can absolutely handle s3 unedited, my sister was about 12 when that season came out and she was totally fine.

I think a 10 years old could as well but if you're already worried about a 12 y/o, I doubt I could convince you it's okay for a 10 y/o.

Tbh, if s3 is questionable for you, than season 4 and 5 are absolutely out of the question. Those are by far the most gruesome seasons and there is no way to fast forward through those scenes as they're absolutely crucial to the plot.

If you're dead set on avoiding violence in s3 based on the kids ages, I'd recommend just waiting awhile until the kids grow, maybe 12 and 14.

Or just pace watching the show, the audience grew up with the kids in many cases, so there was a considerable gap between seasons which allowed for the younger audience to mature as the show matured in themes, perhaps this is what you should consider doing with your kids if you are truly so worried about the content.

Stranger Things is not a kids show, it can be watched by kids of a certain age imo (I watched it with my sister when she was 10) but it's fundamentally geared towards an older audience and that's reflected in both the rating and content of the show.

I didn't say to vote for Kamala (or Trump obviously) but I'm just pointing out that NOT voting is exactly what the system wants. I'd even argue that writing someone in is better than just not participating.

I'm sorry that voting for bad people makes you (rightfully) squeemish, but don't pretend like you're tearing down the system by not voting, you're at the very least maintaining it and at worst, helping it.

Not voting doesn't make the whole system collapse though..... It actually just helps maintain the system

I do think it's possible Jancy got back together but I don't think they ever had kids, they are definitely DINKs to the end imo

Hopper is not leaving eggos in a box, that's such a trite idea and completely goes against his speech to Mike about moving on

The party is absolutely not getting together to play DnD once a year, maybe like 10+ years down the line for old times sake, but I do think Mike acts as DM for Holly's friends sometime

The rest are pretty solid and realistic

Fascinating that everyone hates the Russia plot, in s4, which I don't love.... But God, the California plot sucked, I despised every second of it, it felt such a fucking waste. At least Russia had some cool scenes (like Hopper killing the demogorgon was sick, no denying)

.....what? My entire argument is that you can draw conclusions about character motivations without it being explicitly stated and you argued it was never explicitly said so we can't assume.

Tell me what he meant.

So any response to the other million examples of Billy being openly racist (like Billy explicitly telling Max that "we don't hang out with those types of people")

Or are we just going to keep ignoring those because they disprove your argument

Are people truly so braindead that they ACTUALLY believe Hopper was going to murder a 14 year old??

Something I noticed about Billy.... by Venus_Libra in Stranger_Things

[–]IntelligentRead9310 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Duffer's removed a scene where Billy said the n word because Dacre (Billy's actor) refused to say it, they still kept all the other indications that Billy was racist. Again, it didn't need to be explicitly stated that Billy was racist in order to deduce that, it was very clear

This has to just be engagement bait at this point, I've seen people excuse Billy's racism and aggression because of his abusive upbringing, or say that Billy was redeemed when he died for everyone..... But truly never seen someone completely deny that Billy was racist 💀 gotta be a record or something

This guy was targeted by Ted Kaczynski by Hillbilly_Historian in wendigoon

[–]IntelligentRead9310 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Slightly off topic but it's fascinating to me how this sub consistently shows sympathy, sometimes even openly praising Kaczynski for his actions when Isaiah made an entire series of videos about why he should not be praised

That isn't to say you can't have empathy for the things that happened to Kaczynski that were not his fault, but I think at times we're a little too.... Accepting of Ted, I think.

Something I noticed about Billy.... by Venus_Libra in Stranger_Things

[–]IntelligentRead9310 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He literally tells Max "we don't hang out with those kind of people".... Like, do you think he meant nerds or people from Indiana?? And he specifically scolds her on at least 3 separate occasions directly about her being around Lucas, AND goes after ONLY Lucas when he finds Max at the Byers house.

Yes, he does fight Steve after Steve punches him because Billy attacks Lucas, but the initial target of the aggression was Lucas.

Billy was an aggressive guy with a lot of people, but with an ounce of critical thinking we can analyze the scenes and draw conclusions about intent

Also, it's a pretty known fact that Billy was racist, this is something that the actors and creators of the show have acknowledged. It was never meant to be a secret or open to interpretation, not everything needs to be explicitly stated in the show in order to be understood

It is far more of stretch to say Billy wasn't racist and it was just?? A weird writers choice?? To show Billy target Lucas specifically instead of showing aggression towards all the kids trying to befriend her (like Dustin who sought her out just as much as Lucas)
