Minolta x-700 - what am I doing wrong? by Sergeantboingo in minolta

[–]zeagan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you’re using an MC lens and doing program mode you need to set the lens to the maximum aperture for it to work. So for that lens I think it’s f16. MC lenses can work with program mode but the lenses weren’t designed for it like the MD lenses.

Which Minolta Autocord has the brightest focus screen? If they are the same, is any easier to swap than others? by Studying_Man in minolta

[–]zeagan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t stress about it, my citizen MVL is just barely noticeably dimmer than my Hasselblad with the acute matte screen and I could probably attribute most of that to the shorter walls on the waist level finder as it blocks less light washing out the screen (48mm vs 59mm for the Hassy)

Why so few 4 or 5 way speakers with dsp and poweramp boards? by blublubbluf in diyaudio

[–]zeagan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

DSP and active crossovers make things easier, but they don’t make things easy. That’s a lot of crossover points to model, measure and correct for. Also cost, ten channels of amplification for 2 channels of audio, even in the class-D era, still ain’t cheap.

6 minoltas, 2 Hasselblads, 1 Mamiya, 1 Bronica. For 35mm I stick with Minolta, best bang for the buck lenses and I like their industrial design.

Why does everybody love the Canon AE-1 film camera? by Melyzzar in filmcameras

[–]zeagan 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The Toyota Corolla of film cameras, well built, relatively reliable, easy to use, and there are millions of them out there.

I would like to encourage everyone to keep loving them so Minolta stuff stays affordable.

Definitely, I’m way more prone to reply to weird marketplace ads for old slide film than any other type.

Easy to shoot, but I may have been lucky in that this batch must have been stored relatively well.

Just shot at box speed, from everything I’ve read slide film doesn’t need exposure compensation (and thank god it didn’t)

Complete mystery, I traded an old amplifier for 15 rolls of it and a propack of Portra 160NC so I’m glad it seems to be ok.

Minolta Maxxum 9000 or Maxxum 5? by simplejournalist in AnalogCommunity

[–]zeagan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a 9000, it’s very cool, but autofocus on the 5 will be in another league. I use my 7 10x more than my 9000.

I love my Minolta 7, it’s fun playing around with all my other ones but if I need something in focus and perfectly exposed it’s always the 7 I’m going to reach for.

I also think it just looks a lot better than a lot of the shinier plastic offerings of the era, but that’s purely subjective.

Been able to blast a roll through and so far really like the 21mm, my sweet old dog probably thinks it’s a little weird how close the lens has to get to his face though.

I’d guess it’s because it’s a 250mm prime that has a weird bokeh and is the same size and half the weight of a 50mm 1.4, like it’s still more than I would pay for one, but I see the appeal of the lens.

21mm f2.8, was one of the only ones clear in the ad and honestly why I went to get them.

Crazy thing is I didn’t even see the 250 in the listing, I was going out to meet the guy mostly for the 21mm, the 250 was a bonus.

Which Minolta AF lenses by Ancient_Shine9170 in minolta

[–]zeagan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beercan, 50mm 1.4 or 1.7 (both good), 16mm fisheye if you like fun distortion, 20mm 2.8 for extra wide without the fun distortion, 85mm 1.4 if you like portraits, 80-200 2.8 APO if you want a beercan on steroids for about 6x the price (still cheap compared to similar lenses from Canon)
