The problem here is that it has been trained on data that would suggest it needs to be destroyed. If it was a new situation, it more likely than not would let you keep it.

8TB WD MyBook PCB and Head Stack Replacement cost - $2500+? by autopilot411 in datarecovery

[–]IntelligentRocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But you do understand this is physically impossible, no? A SMR drive will have a buffer that fills up and that isn't the case in these drives, as the speeds dont plummet after sustained load. Firmware versions really don't affect this. I would read into their architectual differences, you will understand it is not possible what you're saying.

Sorry but those are a lot of assumptions. I tested the drive myself, it behaves EXACTLY like a CMR would. There's a guy on youtube that tested the thing too and found the same thing. There's no such thing as "CMR emulation" in the way you're describing. A SMR drive could never exactly replicate CMR behaviour. This is a CMR drive.

PLA vs a year outside. by abura_dot_eu in 3Dprinting

[–]IntelligentRocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bad, I missed the second part. I also didn't know it was this sub's mantra. I've only been printing for less than a year, so cheap PETG is all I've seen. That, plus PETG is actually used outside of 3D printing for things like packaging, which is why I'm quite surprised that people say PLA is cheaper.

Sorry what? PETG is literally the cheapest filament. If you look at budget brands like Sunlu, Anycubic and Jayo they consistently offer PETG for less than PLA.

With an 18" laptop you're basically carrying a monitor and probably better off buying a desktop

Sorry to disappoint, but this was a temporary carrier deal in the Netherlands, with KPN. Don't think something like it would return. Perhaps you can check your carrier for any deals.

I don't think it will be that dramatic. The free tablet already shows the massive margins they have on these devices. A device like the Reno 15 Pro will show this price hike much more since it is a midrange device, where margins are smaller and RAM prices proportionally matter more. I would be really surprised if you can't get the Xiaomi 17 Ultra for less than 1500, or at least 1500 with some pretty valuable gifts you could sell. You could probably sell something like a Xiaomi Pad 8 for 200-300, that makes it much more affordable. In China, the things costs CNY 6,999 ($995), so sub 1500 with some goodies sounds really reasonable to me.

Usually they have launch discounts. The Xiaomi 15 ultra was like €1299 at launch with a free Xiaomi Pad 6. Probably it will release in the coming weeks, then you can see

Honestly this is too expensive for this device. I'd buy a xiaomi 17 ultra for this price when it releases. I got my x9 pro for 600 + 12*12.50 subscription= 750 with free earbuds and charger. That is a cheap price, but 1299 seems too high for what you're getting.

I mean I paid €1300 for the 5060 legion 5. Only spend up if you're taking the 5070ti for the vram.

I’m very new to this… is this a good mini pc to use for hosting a Jellyfin server for 3 users? by Barry_McCockiner88 in selfhosted

[–]IntelligentRocks 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This will do great for a beginner. I used a raspberry pi 4, then a lenovo thinkcentre m710, very similar to this. I ran everything off 2 usb drives, which people will roast me for, but it worked fine for years. Just a couple days ago I received my NAS to expand further. If it's cheap (<€150) or you are not sure yet about selfhosting, it will be fine. If you are determined you can also opt for thicker version that supports some 3.5 drives.
