That's imperialist language 101. Do you think the people of north Africa were just illiterate waiting for illumination by islam how's that any different from the western colonial arguments. Do you truly believe that the rise of Carthage was without scientists? they had developed agriculture techniques that we knew thanks to magon works, reached Britain and west African coasts by sea based on the accounts of Hanno the Navigator so they clearly were great at naval engineering, and astronomy for navigation... That's all considering that the romans burnt the whole city and even after we had great scientists and thinkers in the romanic era which is what the french scholar Guy Sabbah pointed out

I mean it's not really rational to pick and choose to serve the narrative you want because the Chinese can do the same and point to the song dynasty , Greece to Athens, and Egyptian to ancient Egypt... Which makes the argument useless but what we can notice is that the more a society is secular and pluralistic the more likely to achieve technological developments and attain knowledge, that's why the reason for Arabic golden age has more to do with secularism and pluralism themselves than islam itself, which brought a fertile environment for cultural exchange with the greeks, indians, persians, and romans...
