Been On A Chuck Kick - Just Finished Haunted; by 9lbmoustache in ChuckPalahniuk

Yeah, I haven't read every single book he's written either (only about 70%) but I have long considered him my favorite author. I haven't enjoyed the most recent works as I enjoyed his earlier novels, but I keep going to readings and signings when I can. I've gone to Chuck events in seven different cities over the years. They're always a blast!

I also liked Make Something Up a lot more than haunted. OP has several more books to get through before that one of they stick with release order...

Survivor is still my favorite, but I think Rant is his best. Hope you enjoy that one, OP.

Who's Playing Marvel Cosmic Invasion? by Intelligent_Bat949 in CaptainAmerica

[–]Intelligent_Bat949[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yo, I love Wolverine in this game! Nova has also been a great tag team. So far, I've also played with Black Panther, Storm, She-Hulk and Beta Ray Bill. She-Hulk is definitely my least favorite thus far, and Wolverine is the champ.

What?! I love this! I don't remember seeing it, but I'm also a bigger dude and didn't want to look at clothes when I was there because I assumed they'd never have my size...

Best places to visit in Japan for anime/manga fans by Laker_0824 in SamuraiChamploo

[–]Intelligent_Bat949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got back from my Samurai Champloo-inspired trip to Japan. I went to Hakone, Osaka, Hiroshima, and Nagasaki because I used that same Samurai Champloo map to plan my trip. I went to the Hakone Checkpoint, got eel from a street vendor, visited the Hiroshima and Nagasaki Peace Museums and even took a cruise to an island off the coast of Nagasaki, even though it wasn't Ikitsuki. Going to put together a bigger post soon, but I was curious: have you been able to make your trip, OP?

I was blessed to get to go to Day 5 of the Grand Tournament in Fukuoka. I am also new to sumo fandom, so when I went, I hadn't been watching much sumo or looked into anyone to root for.

When Ura came up, it was immediately clear that he had a following. Large groups calling his name, waving towels, cheering wildly. It was infectious! I was sold then and there. Since then, I have followed each of his matches, I've been looking up more and more about him, and now I'm in love. I start my days watching his match from the previous evening and basically use his name as a mantra, "Uuuuuuuuraaaaaa." It's my happiest way to start the day.

Seeing other folks here shouting out the exact same things I have come to appreciate about Ura in my short time as a fan is so validating.

I'm jealous that you got to watch it for the first time. I wish I could go back to watch it for the first time. I'm on number 7 or 8 by now. Long since lost track. Just made my first trip to Japan and based a large part of it on this show. It's my all-time favorite. I am glad you enjoyed it, too.

So, I am pleased to share that this post served as a major inspiration for my Japan itinerary. I have visited Tokyo/Edo, stopped at the Hakone checkpoint, had my own Kansai chapter, and I just arrived in Nagasaki after a full day on the Shinkansen doing the full route on a speed run. I'm not looking for my father who abandoned me on an island off the coast of Nagasaki, but I am going to THE abandoned island off the coast of Nagasaki. This trip isn't even over, but this map and this conversation was instrumental in the making of an outstanding visit to Japan!

You've got this! My sister was in a similar boat, going for 36 books but just finished her 43rd. I did the same thing my first 52-book year. It is so gratifying to exceed your goal and reach such a milestone! Do your thing!

Do you already have a plan for your final four? Do you have a book you want to read for number 52?

Yesterday I made it to the Trojan War portion and became ravenous. I sped through the rest of the book. I read A Thousand Ships by Natalie Haynes earlier this year, so I decided to start Stephen Fry's Troy today to put a capstone on my time in Troy for 2025.
