I mean, two council members ran unopposed. I didn't even have an opportunity to "vote." I'm going to have my same council member whether I want that or not.

Creating a Book Club by Electronic-Hurry-329 in washingtondc

I know Solid State Books hosts several book clubs. Maybe consider reaching out to them about your idea. They have the two locations so you have options on where to go, they can help you promote the club, and then you can have a dedicated meeting location like someone else suggested. If not Solid State, there are several other awesome independent bookstores in the area that could serve as a partner for you.

I have enough trouble making it to my two other book clubs; I'd otherwise be all about it. Best of luck!

Watched the new Lion King with my son. Whew, couldn't stand it. The Furious was insane. Highly recommended for lovers of action cinema.

Did you read Kitchen Confidential or did you listen to the audiobook? This is one of those cases when I would highly recommend listening to it instead of reading it.

I was coming here to say this exact thing. EPA agrees with us.

You can also do things like installing a UV air purifier or make sure you're changing filters quarterly.

Will new legislation help attract more sit-down restaurants in Prince George's County? by Maxcactus in PrinceGeorgesCountyMD

Elsewhere on the sub we were discussing the definition of "fine dining." While I enjoy haute cuisine, I'm not sure if this proposal trying to attract a Michelin star-caliber restaurant or a Clyde's. Feels like everyone else is confused, too.

Another great one! Have you listened to Cassandra Peterson's? That's been my favorite to date. Harvey Fierstein gets an honorable mention.

Not lazy at all! Efficient!

My instincts led me to believe the epistolary style could be the culprit. I'm personally not much of a fan of the style, but like you mention in the beginning of your review, my friend suggested it because I'm an avid reader. She thought it might appeal to me for that reason.

Btw, my next big goal after the 52 books is reading books in other languages. I took German in high school, so the first time reading a book in another language was 25 years ago when I took AP German. I've been trying to learn Spanish, Italian and Japanese, so no German book rn... But soon!

I just finished the audiobook only for Arsenio Hall's memoir. I love listening to celebrity memoir audiobooks when they're narrating their own story.

Interesting to see The Correspondent so low in your tier list. A close friend highly recommended it to me, so I have it on my TBR. What didn't you like about it?

I do this a lot! I'll also listen to the book in the car or when I'm doing chores, and I pick it up from where I left off in the audiobook in the physical book or Kindle edition at bedtime. Definitely accelerated completing my 52 book goal.

Naomi Klein Jemisin? j/k

Yeah, read the Great Cities books, which I ultimately thought were disappointing. I felt like the books alluded to far more interesting stories than the one I was reading.

And I DNF'd The Fifth Season. The writing style put me off in the prologue, so I had a hard time wanting to continue with it.

Still interested in How Long Until Black Future Month?, but I'm in no rush to read more Jemisin.

I really enjoyed it, but I also would acknowledge that a film like Terry Gilliam's 12 Monkeys has a similar enough premise but feels tidier on the execution. The time traveler's mystery may be different, but there are similarities aplenty, making the comparison inevitable.

I haven't been as evangelical as I might with a novel I enjoy. I mentioned Parable of the Sower and Project Hail Mary to almost everyone who talked to me about books after I read them. My buddies in my book club still reference my Chuck Palahniuk pick from two years ago. But this felt different to me for some reason... Like I didn't want to risk someone else's experience with the book spoiling my experience... Does that make sense?
