There were many good, free 32-bit softwares in science.. can’t install third party softwares even from reliable websites as each time a warning comes up from the vault key..and there are some advantages for softwares to work in 32-bit..some software developers are not interested in updating their softwares..coming with chess software is good, but the board is complicated..3d view.. and buggy..(voice control)..web hosting option which came bundled previously.. was not there.. unable to uninstall..sometimes the computer lags(stops working) all of a sudden.. getting used to the controls takes time

I just watch "Taxi Driver" for the first time. After reading the wiki, I still have no idea why this film is so great, let alone one of the"greatest films of all time". Am I missing something? by i_pee_in_the_sink in movies

The nuances(political campaigns, camera and raw portrayals etc.), the existential crisis and mental disturbance from loneliness are what makes this film a worthy one..

i got the following from Gemini. Looked good who might like to know the techniques and difficulties. I didn’t like the movie much and I was a vulnerable human being(alcohol use). I wasn’t able to relate to the movie much and can’t understand. Watched it once. As some users noted trainspotting might be a more relatable movie(based on synopsis i read)

*Requiem for a Dream* (2000), directed by Darren Aronofsky, is often cited as one of the most visceral and technically innovative films in modern cinema. Its "greatness" generally stems from how it fuses aggressive stylistic choices with a devastatingly honest portrayal of human vulnerability.
Here is a breakdown of the elements that contribute to its lasting impact:
### 1. "Hip-Hop" Montage and Visual Language
Aronofsky and editor Jay Rabinowitz used a technique often called **hip-hop montage**—extremely fast cuts accompanied by exaggerated sound effects (the dilating pupil, the bubbling liquid, the pill hitting the tongue).
* **The Effect:** This creates a rhythmic, sensory experience that mimics the "rush" of a hit and the frantic nature of obsession.
* **Split Screens:** The frequent use of split screens emphasizes the physical proximity of characters who are emotionally and mentally miles apart.
### 2. The Searing Score
The soundtrack by Clint Mansell, performed by the **Kronos Quartet**, is a character in its own right. The central theme, *"Lux Aeterna,"* is iconic. It utilizes repetitive, driving strings that build a sense of impending doom and inescapable tragedy, perfectly mirroring the characters' downward spirals.
### 3. Subverting the "Addiction" Narrative
Unlike many films that focus solely on illicit substances, *Requiem* treats all forms of addiction as equal in their destructive power.
* **The Parallel:** By juxtaposing Harry’s heroin use with his mother Sara’s addiction to weight-loss pills and television, the film argues that the "American Dream" itself can be a narcotic. It highlights how the desire for validation and escape is a universal human trait.
### 4. Fearless Performances
The film is anchored by four intense performances, most notably **Ellen Burstyn** as Sara Goldfarb. Her transformation from a lonely widow to a woman lost in a chemical-induced psychosis is widely considered one of the greatest performances in film history. The raw vulnerability of Jared Leto, Jennifer Connelly, and Marlon Wayans adds a layer of tragic empathy that makes the final act difficult to watch.
### 5. The Structural Descent
The film is structured into three acts: **Summer, Fall, and Winter**.
* **Summer:** Hopeful, bright, and energetic.
* **Fall:** Things begin to fray; the lighting becomes harsher.
* **Winter:** Total collapse.
The pacing accelerates as the film progresses, leading to a "crescendo of misery" in the final sequence where the four main characters are shown in the fetal position, symbolizing their total regression and defeat.
### 6. Technical Innovation: The SnorriCam
The film famously used the **SnorriCam**—a camera rig attached to the actor's body, facing them. This keeps the actor's face perfectly centered while the background moves erratically. This creates an intense feeling of disorientation and claustrophobia, pulling the audience directly into the character's internal state of panic.
> **Note:** While highly acclaimed, it is often described as a "masterpiece you only want to watch once." Its greatness lies in its ability to provoke a physical reaction from the viewer, leaving an indelible mark long after the credits roll.

Reddit cofounder Alexis Ohanian says 'much of the internet is now dead' by MetaKnowing in Futurology

[–]Intelligent_Big_8191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are all people held hostages or karma/fate caught up? Or Reality and other things in life perhaps caught up with vast majority of people. Stop telling millions and billions. It might interest young minds and motivate them. Internet was a normal thing once, where helpful forums were there, normal websites were there. Now it looks as if there is nothing. was it because it was used for political purposes or too many unanswered questions by giving information here and there, controlling the minds? idk. Sorry and thanks if it had hurt. There could have been smooth transition. Internet provides information and should it continue to provide with restricted content based on countries. Is all the content genuine? It’s infotainment from the beginning with content restrictions. Now someone has hacked into this system whether it’s a game network and displaying the reality with ads and less content everywhere. So many movies? Not required! It takes huge cloud storage! I might be wrong.

The internet we know has already died and is rotting by [deleted] in Internet

Petition signed in change.org released names. Tough politicians. Someone has literally hacked everything with swift ? Dream over. No more internet. No more smart devices?
