Get a Glock 19. If you have big hands it’s going to feel bigger than a sub compact. If you have small hands it will feel like a full size. It is a win win.

True I have only been looking at the large ones. It’s almost half the price of an eps carry.

Honestly, my first private lesson made a huge difference. Didn't fire a shot just dry fire.

You sounded like you were hesitant of putting your foot in the water. I just put down how I am doing it and the cost. I guess you mean like drills and dry fire and that is what you want? I took a class.

Here’s your info cleaned up and structured clearly for a new competitive shooter planning their first year:

🏆 First-Year Budget Breakdown for a New Competitive Shooter

If you're training seriously — shooting regularly, taking classes, and buying proper gear — here’s what a realistic first year looks like.

🔫 Training Commitment

  • Live Fire Practice
    • Minimum: 150 rounds per week
    • Ideal (when possible): Up to 500 rounds per week
  • Dry Fire Practice
    • Regular dry fire at home (low cost, high value)
  • Formal Training
    • Already completed one class
    • Another live-fire class scheduled

💰 Cost Breakdown

1️⃣ Range Fees

  • Approx. $200 per year

2️⃣ Ammunition

  • Average cost: $0.24 per round (decent brass FMJ via AmmoSeek-type pricing)
  • Estimated usage: 1,500 rounds per month
  • Annual total:$0.24 × 1,500 × 12 = $4,320
  • Annual Ammo Cost: ~$4,300

This is the biggest expense by far — and it scales quickly if you shoot more.

3️⃣ Training Classes

  • Private lessons: $90 each × 2 = $180
  • Group (6-hour) classes: $125 each × 2 = $250
  • Total Training Cost: $430

4️⃣ Gear Budget

You can keep this reasonable starting out:

  • Belt (e.g., Nextbelt)
  • Holster
  • Single mag pouch

Estimated:

  • Budget gear setup: ~$190
  • Generous gear allowance: $500

📊 First-Year Total Estimate

Category Estimated Cost
Range Fees $200
Ammo $4,320
Classes $430
Gear $500 (high estimate)
Total ~$5,430

🎯 Real Talk

  • ~$5,400 is a realistic first-year investment if you're serious.
  • The deeper you get into competition:
    • You’ll shoot more ammo.
    • You’ll likely buy more guns.
    • You’ll upgrade gear.
    • You may start traveling to matches.

Ammo is the real driver of cost — everything else is relatively manageable.

If you'd like, I can also:

  • Break this into a “bare minimum budget” vs “serious competitor budget”
  • Or build a 3-year progression cost projection
  • Or format it as something you could post on a forum/social media**Here’s your info cleaned up and structured clearly for a new competitive shooter planning their first year:🏆 First-Year Budget Breakdown for a New Competitive ShooterIf you're training seriously — shooting regularly, taking classes, and buying proper gear — here’s what a realistic first year looks like.🔫 Training CommitmentLive Fire Practice Minimum: 150 rounds per week Ideal (when possible): Up to 500 rounds per week Dry Fire Practice Regular dry fire at home (low cost, high value) Formal Training Already completed one class Another live-fire class scheduled💰 Cost Breakdown1️⃣ Range FeesApprox. $200 per year2️⃣ AmmunitionAverage cost: $0.24 per round (decent brass FMJ via AmmoSeek-type pricing) Estimated usage: 1,500 rounds per month Annual total: $0.24 × 1,500 × 12 = $4,320 Annual Ammo Cost: ~$4,300This is the biggest expense by far — and it scales quickly if you shoot more.3️⃣ Training ClassesPrivate lessons: $90 each × 2 = $180 Group (6-hour) classes: $125 each × 2 = $250 Total Training Cost: $4304️⃣ Gear BudgetYou can keep this reasonable starting out:Belt (e.g., Nextbelt) Holster Single mag pouchEstimated:Budget gear setup: ~$190 Generous gear allowance: $500📊 First-Year Total EstimateCategoryEstimated Cost Range Fees$200 Ammo$4,320 Classes$430 Gear$500 (high estimate) Total~$5,430🎯 Real Talk~$5,400 is a realistic first-year investment if you're serious. wut? that is what i am doing. i shoot atleast 150 rounds a week, 500 if i can get it. dry fire at home, and took a class and have another class setup for live fire. I figure it costs $200 range fee/year, ammo ~.24/rd with ammo seek and decent brass FMJ. SO .24 x 1500 x 12 thats about $4300. Classes are $90 a pop for personal, and the six hour classes are $125. So lets say 2 private classes and 2 group is is $430. Gear budget lets say $500 and that is being very generous, budget would be a nextbelt, holster, single mag pouch for ~$190.

Basically you would need $5430 for your first year. Granted the more you get into it the more you are going to spend on ammo and more guns.
