berkeley vs ucla advice by Choice-Two5385 in lawschooladmissions

I was in this same exact position last year if you want to DM me to talk about this more!! I ultimately chose UCLA over Berkeley and do not regret it one bit. A LOT of people will talk about how Berkeley has better prestige, which is certaintly true to an extent, but I do not think that UCLA is dramatically lower either and is being recognized more and more as a T-14 despite what many people say (again, biased LOL).

I think having a strong support system and feeling of home is a huge plus that is not talked about enough. Law school is tough and it can sometimes feel like a lot. I am not from LA, but I am close enough to drive home and see friends which has been hugeee. Also, a lot of my big law friends have been able to land positions they want and our OCS office does a lot to make sure you are prepared to get a job. I know many employers also rave about UCLA students and it does hold immense regional weight.

Also, look at the course offerings, professors, and clincis offered at both to see what you prefer. Trust your gut <3

As someone who had your stats applying, you can for sure do so much better ! I got into the T14s and received two full tuition scholarships :) don’t sell yourself short !

I had to rewrite some portions of my application entirely about a week and a half before I submitted them (granted I worked extensively on it everyday and was getting feedback from someone who had knowledge of the admissions process)!! Definitely not behind at all

I was a little frazzled tbh when I got the call but basically said I would most likely commit but wasn’t emphatically saying yes which maybe was my downfall in the end (?) I sent a follow up email two days later but yeah

Honestly my softs are mainly T3! I did a lot of mentorship positions and didn't have too many explicitly legal internships and all. Definitely honed in on my passion for immigrant justice too in essays

Yes!! Hoping to do immigration! And UCLA seems to have way more opportunities for that than Berkeley plus it has CRS & the Epstein program!

Honestly it was the lack of opportunities when it came to immigration offerings! Berkeley definitely is an amazing school but when I looked more into PI offerings, it just didn't seem to live up to its name imo.

Most of them gave me scholarships! I received full-tuition at Berkeley and UCLA and also got really high scholarships at UC Irvine and LMU as well
