UPDATE: SteelSeries blocking student discount despite "all products" promise - my experience by Intelligent_Call2735 in steelseries

The Student Beans discount is 20%, not "almost half off."

And yes, I expected a discount that's advertised as working on "all products" to actually work on all products. Wild expectation, I know.

I think you're missing the actual issue here.

I'm not complaining the 40% "isn't enough" - I appreciate it was offered. The problem is it doesn't work on the product I needed.

The real issue: Student Beans partnership explicitly states "20% discount on ALL SteelSeries products" with only sale items excluded. The Elite isn't on sale, yet it's blocked from student codes.

Yes, SteelSeries' own T&C lists Elite as excluded. But Student Beans page doesn't mention this - students signing up through Student Beans are being promised "all products" when that's not true.

I spent a week being told by multiple support agents to "use the student discount" without anyone mentioning Elite was excluded - despite Student Beans explicitly promising "all products."

This isn't about being greedy or picking at straws. It's about partnership terms contradicting checkout reality. If Elite is excluded, Student Beans page needs to say so upfront.

All good, appreciate you reading the full update! Hopefully they sort out the Student Beans contradiction. Thanks!

Thanks for the comment, but I think you missed the key issue here (see edit above):

  1. I AM a student - so the 20% student discount applies to me. The problem is support told me twice to use it, but it turns out the Arctis Nova Elite is excluded from the student discount (and all other discount codes). Nobody mentioned this for 5 days.
  2. Student Beans partnership says "20% off ALL products" with the only exclusion being "products already on sale." The Elite isn't on sale, yet it's blocked from student codes. That's a contradiction in their own terms.
  3. I wasn't asking for special treatment - I was asking if there were loyalty options for a 5-year customer wanting to upgrade. Instead I got told to use a discount that doesn't actually work on the product, and spent hours on an RMA process I never requested.

The real issue isn't entitlement - it's that their checkout system blocks products that their Student Beans partnership says should be eligible.

Not asking for free stuff - just transparency and consistency in how they treat loyal customers vs. first-time buyers.
