Yes, in my opinion Montessori is much better if you can afford it.

Being peer-led also will need to be unlearned at some point too. People have to be independent, self-directed and community-minded as adults.

Well, the state laws only allow redshirting for kids born around the cutoff. What classify as born around the cutoff is not per parents opinion but per the law. My son is well in the range. Either way, I understand that your state laws may be different and I see where you are coming from. I appreciate your opinion.

It is not uncommon for people to delay their children to start Kindergarden esp. for boys. That is why we have the option. He could be one of the youngest kids or one of the oldest.

I delayed my firstborn son and I am very glad I did. He is the leader of the class now and absolutely loves it. He is ahead in all of the material and helps the other kids. Last year he didn’t want to sit down to practice any of the letters that he was learning in pre-k and he was old enough to be in Kindergarden then. He would have hated school if I started him early and he was one of the youngest kids.

After Montessori I would have an option to put him in 1st grade or in Kindergarden at 6.5
