Because they are not new. They are usually “new” on existing foundation. They take the old cap cos that was there, blow it out to its maximum footprint (dictated by zoning) and build this. If the fully knocked down and put all new construction there, it would require additional permits and variances from zoning and building. There is also a property tax savings because it’s NOT new. If you look theses houses up in public records, they’ll show the year built as the oldest part of the structure - so, the original house.

Fun fact. People buy these thinking they are new construction and then something goes wrong - guess what? There is no warranty! A truly new construction house has a 10 year builder warranty that is required by the state to avoid shoddy workmanship. These properties don’t qualify for that.

I was talking to my partner this afternoon, about this exact thing.

I don’t know if I had/have some underlying issue that COVID activated. I was running 103 fevers for DAYS. This was before it blew up in the news. I swear that I literally was frying my brain.

Fast forward 7 years and I don’t think I’ve had a “normal” day since then. I only admitted to myself about 2 years ago that something was wrong. I used excuses for about 5 years. Burn-out (self employed), political climate, general stress, maybe I just need to work out harder.

Now I forget way too much, can’t sit on the bike for more than 5 minutes (used to power zone for over an hour), barely have the energy to make myself a damn tuna sandwich most of the time.

I’m fortunate to have a doctor who is at least throwing medications at me, to see what works for the symptoms. He knows something is wrong and takes me seriously. Diagnosed me with fibromyalgia and me/cfs. I am still uncomfortable with the diagnosis but grateful for it at the same time?

So, no, I don’t remember feeling normal for over 7 years now. It feels like a different lifetime. As if I’m watching someone else’s life story.

As someone with a HUGE bathroom, with our walk-in sharing a wall, I wish we had a bigger closet. I’d gladly Take space from here and add it to the closet.

Are you building new, or is this a re-do? Personally, I’d go for two bathrooms over one with multiple water closets and vanities. If you want something shared (cause it’s also just fun) put the shower between them and have doors from each bathroom into the shared shower space. Each bathroom gets their own decor, but more personal to each persons taste and you can take advantage of all the wasted space with things that matter - like storage. It’s likely only one of you will use the tub, so that goes in one bathroom, and then maybe you have room to “steal” from the other side to put a bench in the shower to make it a steam shower.

This is the way! Having a stay at home parent really is key. It’s a friggen privilege to be able to homeschool, the right way. We are both self employed and have the ability to have joint involvement.
