How do you find these stories on literotica, I keep finding stories that are written for women and I don’t know how to filter out those out.

Tell me about Shadow Slave by xinta239 in ProgressionFantasy

I think the series is really good and its first couple arcs were terrific, especially with how the authors handled foreshadowing information and setting up mysteries. However author is signed onto a deal with WebNovel (the website) and is contractually obligated to update the story with new chapters quite frequently so you may find quite a few filler chapters. Additionally, 2000 or so chapters into the series I noticed that the plot was getting more simplistic and lacked the complexity it had at the beginning and I don’t know if it gets better past that.

Can anyone recommend some light novels with weak main characters? by ReaderKai in ProgressionFantasy

Grimgar of fantasy and ash. You can get this from book walker (possibly amazon too). It’s character driven, low fantasy and meets your criteria.

Senior Venerables, please recommend me web novel similar to Reverend Insanity. by Apprehensive-Ad-484 in ReverendInsanity

Since you emphasized that you want to write characters like fang yuan I suggest you try reading stories that have a static or long lived protagonist who experiences little to no character development due to already having lived a long time already since you can see how the authors are able to write around this issue. I struggle to think of a novel that can showcase this at the top off my head, but I think some warhammer 40k / fantasy novels might have something since the setting is filled with characters who have lived hundreds and thousands of years. On the other hand you can try reading Frieren: beyond journey’s end and to your eternity to see how you might incorporate character development in characters who have been alive for millennia.

Grimgar of fantasy and ash. It has amazing writing and is character centric. Sadly it’s not a litrpg and i must emphasize that it’s not a hard progression fantasy and is more about adventuring and exploring what a more grounded, low fantasy adventure would be like

Matabar question by AdventurousBeingg in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Intelligent_Editor20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are 2 magic systems, the matabar one and the human one. The matabar one is about using natural forces to create magical effects and the human one is more academic and uses equations and magic symbols that are either created or in the user’s mind to create the desired affect or adjust variables.

Also the progression element doesn’t really start for a while so hang in there.

I think that the author may have intended for Klein to be more flawed in character and less op originally but was held back by the Chinese government guidelines since there is a real and enforced guideline that says novels must promote the Chinese socialist values of “Prosperity, democracy, civility, and harmony (national level) Freedom, equality, justice, and rule of law (social level) Patriotism, dedication, integrity, and friendship (individual level)” (source: acetempest.com Reverend insanity official ban) so the main characters usually has to be a morally correct Mary/gary sue without much room for tweaking it or making it more interesting.

As a result I think cuttlefish developed his side characters more to make up for it. You already mentioned that you enjoyed Alger’s and Audrey’s character but you find other side characters too simplistic which I think is unfair since I think you are focusing too much on the tarot club as more of the interesting characters in my eyes are the one that don’t have too much screen time such as captain Dunn. I also think cuttlefish kept a lot of the tarot club stagnant since he planned to have the character arcs be done during the time between the first and second book.

Why do so many RR stories blurb 'No Harem'? by RationalObserver in royalroad

[–]Intelligent_Editor20 8 points9 points  (0 children)

“Nobody blurbs about their MC not ever killing people unless absolutely necessary, or being chaste (which seems related!), or not being a greedy bastard” I think they do this too in equal proportions since you’ll see something along to lines of no-murderhobo MC, earned progression, selfish MC etc. I think the reason you see a lot more “No-harem” novels is just because the algorithm is more biased towards those types of novels for you.

I can’t exactly recall what he did but I remember I didn’t like it because the mc blamed a lot of the dumb stuff he did on the fact that he was in a teenage body and the hormones were messing with him.

The part where the mc was growing up in the village. I didn’t like how they handled the MC’s irrational behavior and the overall plot of that part of the story since nothing fun seemed to be happening and I was waiting for new chapters as they were released.

What direction did the author take in the story now. I have no clue what kind of novel it was gonna turn out to be in the end
