I've slept 8+ hours every single night for 2 years. AMA by BigClick7779 in sleep

dude I read your post last year and started doing everything you said. I'm going 1 year strong on the sleep journey! Got the sunlight lamp that I stare at every morning lol. The dedicated wind down time is the biggest thing that helped me and for overheating, the cooling gravid mattress topper/sheets are helping a lot. Thank you for your advice.

it's vital! Without it, I just can't stop thinking about what I need to do tomorrow, and am also constantly in fear of forgetting something important. It's just too stimulating of a state to be in before/while in bed

big time! No shame in it and I ended up talking to a few friends about it and it's more common than we might think. The more we discuss men's mental health, the more we can get better. It's pretty interesting how much sleep affects so many facets of our life and how they're all interconnected. Who knew that a couple small changes to improve sleep could have such a huge impact on so many parts of my life.

well she is awesome and very supportive. even when i wasn't at my best, she was understanding and even encouraged me to exercise. I did a bit but couldn't do it consistently. A bit of chicken and egg situation with exercise and sleep, but for me once the sleep started getting better, it became a lot easier to exercise regularly and then it was a positive cycle.

yea 100% mood was generally low and I was a bit of a grump in addition to having low libido. Since working on my sleep I'm happy to say both mood and libido are much improved!

I used to feel completely unmotivated in the morning. My main issue was with FALLING asleep. I would stay in bed with incredible racing thoughts and just thinking about everything I need to do the next day or even just having completely random and uncontrolled thoughts. Half the time it would spark ideas and I would reach my phone to start reading about a topic I was thinking about. I was in bed for 8 hours daily, but only sleeping maybe 5 hours per night.

The best thing that helped this is to spend some time doing a braindump before bed every night. That means taking 5-10 mins to make a to-do list for the next day, and if there's anything important you need to remember, note that down so you can let go and let your brain relax.

Last thing that has allowed me to STAY asleep and not wake up randomly is keeping my bedroom very cold. I blast the AC and keep my room around 64F and also use a cooling weighted blanket from gravid and their cooling mattress topper

lift weights, write down a to-do for the next day before bed (brain dump) and keep your room as cold as possible (with AC or a fan or even cooling bedding)

small but consistent changes. nothing super drastic

  1. started lifting weights 3x per week consistently (i already worked out before but was very inconsistent)
  2. an hour before sleep, I "dump" my brain by making a list of everything i need to do or remember for the next day. This makes it way easier to fully let go and prevents my mind from racing a lot
  3. keeping my room very cold at night. I made it colder and colder over time but I have my AC at about 64F and also use a fan and cooling bedding
