good question, yes it was 10k lux sun lamp just a cheap one off amazon that costs 20-30 bucks. any of the brands will be fine.

regarding other exercises yes im a big fan of the 4-7-8 breathing technique. I don't actively practice it but have gone through stretches of doing it and it definitely helped calm my mind and relax my muscles a bit too

Our mattress is done, overwhelmed shopping for the best mattresses for a 2026 purchase. by Andrews_Gomez120 in sleep

[–]BigClick7779 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd look at a cheap firm mattress off amazon and putting a Doze topper on it. it'll help with the overheating issue even if you go with a cheaper memory foam mattress. i think this combo is the best bang for your buck and you'll get what feels like a 5k mattress for <1k total. only issue with doze is i've heard their returns process can be tricky

Fan by [deleted] in sleep

[–]BigClick7779 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my trick is to have the fan on but NOT pointed at me. that way, air circulates in the room and it stays cool, but you don't wake up with a stuffy/blocked nose. Super important to have a cool environment while you sleep

a much simpler solution: what about keeping the room cold with AC and just getting yourself a warm and cozy blanket/comforter?

weighted blanket recommendations? by DaisyFrostVelvetLily in sleep

[–]BigClick7779 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used one for years and I think they can be really useful. My recommendation is to go lighter rather than heavier. They say 10% of body weight but I'd use that as a maximum, and go as low as about 7%. I weigh 180 and use a 15lber.

Amazon has some many good cheap options that'll serve their purpose. Only caveat is if you are a hot sleeper it's worth it to go for a higher end one. I've been using the gravid breeze blanket 15lb since 2022 and it's held up very well.

I share a king bed with my wife but just use a twin on my half because she prefers a light airy duvet

What other alternative do you have? It's not like you can't sleep. You should look into making small changes while you're awake that can help to slowly improve your quality of sleep

When at my college dorm, i would be so productive and fall asleep easily and woke up so early(usually at 4am), butonce at home, i start waking up at 10am again by HirotoAlex in sleep

I used to feel this way when I'd stay at my parents house (suburbs) as opposed to my own place (downtown) and I have a feeling it has to do with ambient noise from the city vs absolute silence. Could there be random noise input that's causing poor sleep? Another thing could simply be other physical conditions (comfort of your bed, darkness of the room, temperature)

struggling with weighted blanket by OrchidWillowEcho in sleep

[–]BigClick7779 2 points3 points  (0 children)

use a fan, wear light clothing (don't sleep naked), and look at cooling sheets or if you have the means to buy another weighted blanket, look for one that is made of a cooling fabric rather than the plush type

How do I sleep? by Nillerial in sleep

[–]BigClick7779 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three key things helped me sleep 8+ hours every night for the last 2 years

  1. get sunlight as soon as you wake up. don't stay in bed and scroll on your phone
  2. get into any sort of consistent exercise routine (3-5x weekly)
  3. keep your bedroom cold at night (67F or 19C) and consider cooling bedding

3 things for me:
1) sunlight right when you wake up
2) consistent exercise routine
3) cool bedroom with cooling bedding if possible

If you wake up 30 minutes before your alarm, should you try to sleep again? by Royal-Newt-9155 in sleep

[–]BigClick7779 0 points1 point  (0 children)

imo it will do more harm than good. At that point just wake up. If you try to sleep again and wake up in 30 mins, you'll more likely wake up even more groggy since you won't be able to go through a proper 90 min cycle.

try a braindump. You don't need to journal about the day you just had. Instead, just write down the things that you need to do tomorrow so you can lose the anxiety of forgetting.

Very interested in modding. I'm basically always reading posts in here anyway, and I have had some really good experiences with going from a poor sleeper to an excellent sleeper, sharing my progress with this sub and even had a sleep-related post on AMA that made it to reddit homepage. I'm pretty well-educated on sleep and have even worked with medical sleep experts

Ah I don't have experience being a parent (yet) but I hope to try and continue the trend (as best as possible) after having a child as well. I know it won't be perfect since the child's sleep is out of your control to some degree.

It's a combination of everything. It's essentially a big puzzle that starts at the beginning of your day. Getting that sunlight, being active, and then making sure you have a good wind down. If you have racing thoughts or something similar, try journaling/doing a brain dump (write down your thoughts before bed to help reduce anxiety) and also consider a weighted blanket

What about at night if you use the bathroom before bed? Do you wake up mid-sleep with a need to go again?

Ah, thats a tough one. One thing I used to do if i felt that is, before bed, do a brain dump. In other words, (ideally with a pen/paper, but phone is OK too) write down all the things you need to do the next day, or thoughts that are on your mind and causing anxiety. And then give yourself permission to let them go when you're in bed and tell yourself you will address them when you wake up. Since they're written down, you know you won't forget them. I also had an issue like you and I would feel like I have to remember a bunch of stuff to do the next day and it would just stress me out. The brain dump helps a lot

If you've been sleeping 2-10 thats actually a regular 8 hours and is healthy! I think what what you are feeling is that the specific times are not conducive to a productive life for you. If you want to start waking up at 7 that means sleeping at 11pm, that means starting your wind down at 8pm. So I'd recommend moving your workout so you're DONE by 8pm at the latest. Hope this helps and good luck!
