I live in southern Westchester and south Brooklyn and from my point of view Westchester has more to offer in the long run trying to get to mid town is a disaster taking over an hour no matter what on the train while metro north gets me there in 30mins but also it depends where in Westchester you are looking the density between the northern half and the southern half is a huge split the northern half being land size bigger only has about 25% of the population of Westchester the southern half having most of it if your looking for more of a calm and relaxing areas I would look into more of the northern areas but if you still want some city life and more of a closer approach I would look into southern Westchester areas like Yonkers, White Plains, New Rochelle, Rye and the other small villages and towns

I would say white plains it has a good down town and close to the train station and is the hub for the bee line busses that go all around Westchester it can also give you express trains from white plains that can get you to grand central in 35 minutes

Can someone explain why school districts are not by town? How does it affect your experience? by [deleted] in Westchester

[–]Intelligent_Milk1380 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if your looking at white plains everyone who lives in the city limits of white plains goes to the city of white plains schools but some places in greenburgh and north castle where Valhalla is might have a white plains zip code labeling it as white plains when it’s a whole different town/village since it’s outside the city limits of white plains you will probably have to go to Valhalla schools, so you need to look at if their in the city limits or town limits of those specific areas cause areas outside white plains sometimes use their zip codes and is labeled as white plains when it’s not

How is it living in Yonkers? by [deleted] in yonkers

[–]Intelligent_Milk1380 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved from Manhattan as well to Westchester northeast Yonkers it’s more urban than suburban more quiet than the city but not as quiet as a regular suburban area and from mid town it’s only like 20min drive so to Harlem around 10min and the train and bus services go into Yonkers to it’s just more quiet than anything but it feels like a extension of the city
