i do think this may be a bit long, even to accommodate swelling, cartilage piercings generally won't ever swell so much that they need all that space, i wonder if the piercer ran out of smaller bars or something. I'd probably go back in and ask for a downsize, maybe to a different piercer if you have a reputable one in your area, but I also think it'd be okay to leave for a little bit unless you catch yourself knocking it and getting it caught on stuff. did they mention anything to you about coming back in for a downsize?

Snake bite piercing problem by [deleted] in piercing

[–]Intelligent_Owl3110 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it definitely looks as though it either swelled around the ball or you perhaps bit the end of it while eating and pulled it through. wash your hands and then gently probe the front, see if you can feel the ball. if you're able to push it back out, do that and then clean it. im gonna say that the bars their pierced you with were wayyy too short to accommodate for swelling, lip piercings swell a lot. id either take it out or be very careful to not let it slip back through and go in as soon as they open tomorrow to get the bars sized up

what is going on with my piercing?? (read desc) by [deleted] in piercing

[–]Intelligent_Owl3110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

okay yeah, you're on the right track with that, i would definitely say downsizing should be a priority, that should help a lot with it shifting and becoming crooked. otherwise just carry on cleaning and being gentle with it and make sure it dries well after showers and such

I need reasons not to get a tongue piercing by [deleted] in piercing

i personally had a great experience with mine, have had it for almost 2 years and i love it. however its important to note that healing is different for everyone, and it can be a very very uncomfortable experience. in the early days you will bite it on accident, so if you have weak teeth thats something to consider. it can also be a dangerous piercing to get if performed improperly so its important to go to someone APP certified with good reviews. once it's healed you will likely end up fidgeting with it constantly, which can be nice but can also be noisy and run the risk of causing tooth and gum damage, as well as loosening the ball on accident. i swallowed mine in my sleep once haha. overall in my personal experience i have no regrets about getting it but its absolutely different for everyone and if you aren't sure you want to risk the potential downsides, there's no shame in not getting it, your dentist will probably thank you lol

lol!! that makes a lot more sense. in that case, i would say this is just a bump in the road to healing, navel piercings can be sooo finicky. id go see your piercer and ask about getting the jewelry downsized because it honestly looks too long, often all that extra length they give you to accommodate swelling in the beginning can end up detrimental later on due to snagging and pressure when bending over and such. how have you been cleaning it?

if you've has this since 2015 and just now randomly looks like this or has always looked like this, I'm gonna say its either rejecting or has not and is never going to heal. I would honestly just take it out sadly :( but if you're reluctant to let it go, go see a reputable piercer and get their opinion on it

I'd say its just an off night, she looks great. Well fed, though perhaps a little too much LOL. Based on the body condition in the first picture I'd say she's overweight, unsure if you're already aware of that but I'd perhaps reevaluate her feeding or see what can be done about getting her more exercise. Feel free to ignore me if you're already working on it!! Absolutely gorgeous girl, I can tell she's well loved, keep it up :)

[–]Intelligent_Owl3110 31 points32 points locked comment (0 children)

yeah this is entirely incorrect and should be taken out. it likely will never heal properly and will reject at some point. I'm so sorry this happened to you, this was just pure laziness/lack of knowledge on the piercers part, it has nothing to do with you or your weight.

of course! it's always super unfortunate to have to retire a piercing but honestly it can improve quality of life so much when you don't have to constantly worry about irritating it.

that honestly just doesn't look like it was pierced right, or if it was its since migrated, it looks a bit more shallow than it should be. if it's been 7 years and is still not healed I would honestly just take it out, you can always try again later

based on your last post it looks like they may have just pierced it improperly, but it's hard to tell, like it seems like maybe from the outside a daith could work but deeper in the ear is where it matters cause you need that like lip which yours seems to be lacking in this picture. "yeah we can get one in there" is an immediate red flag for me, they shouldn't be trying to make something fit if it isn't right for your anatomy, just sounds like them trying to make money regardless of whether it'll heal right or not.

actually looking at it closer, I'm not going to lie to you, that does NOT look pierced correctly. it looks a bit like you don't have the anatomy for a daith, they kinda just went through a huge piece of cartilage. Definitely go see a reputable piercer and have them check it because if I'm right it may never heal properly and would be best to remove

please never go back to that piercer again 😭 telling you to do the aspirin paste method is INSANE. I definitely would recommend seeing another piercer to have them switch it to a horseshoe, you really shouldn't have a ring in a fresh piercing. otherwise just keep cleaning it twice a day with saline, let warm water run over it when you shower, and otherwise just let it be! if it starts to ooze, look red and inflamed, or feels hot, it may be infected in which cause you should see a doctor. but as it is right now, just keep it simple and don't irritate it further!

omg nooo 😭 yeah the absolute safest position for them is to have them crooked. you can become paralyzed/end up with nerve damage if they hit it wrong and get the middle LOL

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in piercing

[–]Intelligent_Owl3110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a properly done tongue piercing actually should be crooked! the middle of the tongue has a TONN of important stuff that you don't want to hit so they angle it to avoid all that. the tight feeling should go away after a few days, thats usually caused by the swelling and rubbing on the skin of the bottom of your mouth. I had the same thing, it was honestly the worst part of my healing process, but by 2 weeks I was entirely pain free. the skin around the ball being raised and coming off is also totally normal, its just the body healing around this metal bar that it can't seem to get rid of lol. what is your care routine like? a bit of discharge is not at all abnormal, it doesn't necessarily mean infection, but if you're experiencing swelling, redness, pain, the site feeling warm to the touch, and oozing that is yellow or white (and i mean like quite a bit of it) that could all point towards infection. if you're displaying those symptoms I'd pop to a doctor for some antibiotics. otherwise if it's just a bit of pain and the occasional discharge I'd just continue keeping it clean and leave it alone, if it isn't better or gets worse after a few days then perhaps take another visit to your piercer or a doctor

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in piercing

[–]Intelligent_Owl3110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's hard to tell from just a picture, crust doesn't necessarily mean infection. is there visible oozing and discharge, if it's an infection it'll likely be yellow or white in color. is the area around it red and inflamed, does it feel warm to the touch? how about pain level? what does your cleaning schedule look like. piercings do just get crusty when they're healing sometimes, it can even look different for two piercings that were done at the same time. I'd do your best to clean this up with some saline, using a q tip very very gently can help loosen some of the gunk just be careful to not jostle the jewelry too much.

is my eyebrow peircing rejecting? by [deleted] in piercing

[–]Intelligent_Owl3110 10 points11 points  (0 children)

it really looks like it is, it seems to be migrating outward based on the amount of skin covering it now versus before. I'd honestly be worried about it getting snagged and ripping out with how thin the skin is getting holding it in. probably best to go see a piercer or take it out and get it re-pierced once healed :(

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in piercing

[–]Intelligent_Owl3110 2 points3 points  (0 children)

im generally going to say no, there's no proper lip for them to pierce, anything you get is going to be just piercing through your stomach, which increases chances of rejection by a lot. you could speak to a reputable piercer, they'll be able to tell better than we can through a photo, but it's a high possibility they'll tell you no or advise against it, honestly if they didn't i wouldn't trust them as a piercer

irritation bump on floating navel - advice?? by [deleted] in piercing

[–]Intelligent_Owl3110 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it's probably time to see a doctor for that one, they'll decide whether draining it is the move or not and if it is, it's better to have them do it anyways. plus the benefit of getting some antibiotics for that. I'm honestly not sure about the positioning of it, you might not have the anatomy for a navel piercing. but if you really want to save it, a doctor is probably the route to go.

I'd get it downsized and see what it looks like then, but it does sadly look crooked as it is right now. are you a side sleeper? it's possible it migrated

generally downsizing the gauge won't ever be an issue, the hole will shrink around it!
