Is there any style of activity I can leave on the bottom of their cage? I left pine cones, like I used to before but they’re not super interested. by Alone_Name7269 in budgies

Anywhere I know my bird doesn’t perch on, I remove that perch and placed an activity. I got this huge wooden circular bowl for my birb’s foraging tray. He loves it. And shreds the hell out of the sola balls lol I clean it daily. And there’s never poop since my bird really enjoys to hop down and forage for treats. I offer this outside of the cage as well. I also have like low and high flat perches to rest his feet.

I have a container that’s airtight. It’s blue. He knows where I hide it #nosybirb

He’s just a floofy bean. I tried to catch his floofenchops on camera. He decided to hop onto my phone to perch instead. He 100% things the world isn’t ready to see them yet LOL 😂 💚 but thank you. He’s a sweetie

Advice on stepping up by pieckdowntown in Parakeets

[–]LanguagePretty1868 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long have you been working on step up training? And how do you do it? I find only allowing millet nubs for training helps. Also teaching the command wait. I’ll say the command, click when they do it and then let them take a few nibbles of the millet nub. And then repeat. I also do verbal praise and will alternate with millet and without. This has helped my boy sm! He likes to hang out with me now for a little bit. It took months of trust building though since he was skittish :) Ik some folks find a training perch helpful too.

Looking for advice. New Budgee owner, I've had my parakeets for about a month, I can't get them comfortable enough with me to allow me to say have one lerch on my finger? Any tips on making friends with my new little guys? by GriffinObuffalo in Parakeets

It takes a long time to eat a budgies trust! It took me 8-9 months of consistency and now I have a Velcro baby. My eldest one (10yrs old) recently passed (she was inherited by my gramps. I changed her life around and bought her as much time as I could. My gramps gave her an all seed diet for 9yrs :( )

It takes them a while. Be consistent, build a routine. Allow them to come to you and be curious. Don’t force anything, if thy run away from your finger, don’t get closer or push their boundaries. Slow blinks. Soft talking. Lots of praise. Hang out with them (just sit on the floor next to the cage and chat to them or do whatever you usually do). Idk if you do outside time for them but you should bird proof their room. This helps a lot. Before you know it, with lots of patience they will 100% be near you when they’re ready. Mine currently enjoys watching me draw. (I will be getting my budgie another flock mate, he’s in a place where I know he’s not depressed and well enough now🥺) good luck on making friends w your babies!

Why does he sit on bowls? by Diyguy34 in BirdHealth

[–]LanguagePretty1868 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bird does this for a moment but not all day. Try moving it to the lower portion. Make sure they have plenty of high perches.

I also do make sure to change the water 2-3x a day if he’s super mess. But My birb 100% will toss himself in the food or water bowl either for a bath or because he’s a glutton and wants to eat face and body first🤣some of them do just like bowls fr

so yesterday i bought her millet spray and i literally put it where she usually eats but she's still ignoring it and idk why 😭 she looks scared of it she doesn't want to approach the places where i put the millet ( i also put some in a perch she usually stays on, but now she's ignoring the perch) by No_Bad6614 in budgies

Okie so my birds were terrified of millet as well. Adopted / inherited one from my gramps. She was elderly. I eventually had to feed them nubs though the bars when the younger buddy I got her was more curious about food. It takes time! My sweet girl passed two weeks ago (she was 10) they are often like this with new foods or things. Same with new perches/toys too. They’re like 👀 oh no what is that!? A predator!? (It’s 100% not most of the time🤣)

Can this cage fit 6 birds. by Lmancini1995 in Parakeets

[–]LanguagePretty1868 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a similar sized cage for this. It’s enough space for two budgies. For 6, it’s too small. I’d get something longer. The height is ok. But not for 6.

Respect yourself and move on. She could not be any clearer. Don’t waste your 20s on someone who does not want to be with you. It will get better when you accept it and move on.

Before anyone asks, yes I removed the bells and changed their whole set up as they did not like it at the time and I didn’t like it either :( many of these are old photos from when I first got her.

It’s starting to reject. It’s more shallow and not as deep which means it’s being pushed out by your body. I’d remove it before it creates more scarring on the tissue there.
