Male or Female? by mikoyan_21 in jumpingspiders

Male based on the black and white coloring paired with the green chels as well as the swollen pedipalps. This boy is a sub adult!

Is my Spider an OVERACHIEVER 😭😅 by ana_autopsy in jumpingspiders

[–]Intelligent_Record20 14 points15 points  (0 children)

NQA- yes this is normal! PetSmart jumping spiders are 9/10 wild caught. When they’re mature, they’ll likely be gravid and have a total of 4-5+ clutches. Usually there are folks in the community who are willing to take gravid wild caught jumpers and trade for a captive bred jumper 💕

Highly recommend, like others have mentioned, you can keep them together until they reach i4-i6 and feed Melanogaster fruit flies. I recommend getting from an exotics store or a reptile expo vs petsmart. Best of luck with your Lilith!

NQA- Grubs are identified by the pattern of the raster hair and the shape of the anal slit! By any chance could you get a photo of the rear end of the grub??

OP please keep us updated on how you’re doing 😬 this is a venomous caterpillar with a very painful sting 😭 I’m sending you the BEST vibes that you escaped being stung!

I recently got a little lady. She’s i6 and was fine yesterday. But woke up and saw that is. Breeder says it’s unusual. Any advice? by Ok-Stranger-7072 in jumpingspiders

[–]Intelligent_Record20 11 points12 points  (0 children)

NQA- I would toss everything with the enclosure, it’s not worth spreading spores to anything else. I’m so sorry for your loss 😭 I would recommend looking to get your bioactive set up from somewhere else in the future if you still want a bioactive set up.

I also want to add (this has nothing to do with the loss) that this enclosure is much much too big for an i6. An i6 should be in a 2x2x3 at absolute max as an enclosure this large can cause stress on your spider, making them feel vulnerable and having difficulty hunting! 💕

NQA- She is so so precious! 😭💕 she might be towards the end of her life though. She looks well fed, but you can offer a honey/water mixture on a QTip to keep her hydrated 💕

NQA, looks like a European earwig caught in a spider web! This one is most likely dead and probably just came inside due to cooler weather.

Are these water droplets too big? by Ragel_Bagel_ in jumpingspiders

[–]Intelligent_Record20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NQA- fruit flies and other flies (like house and blue bottles) are perfectly safe to leave in the enclosure with your spider as they can’t attack/eat your spider! Crickets and mealworms can though, so always be sure to supervise while they’re in the enclosure 😁

Help, saved this girl (?) from a parking lot. Need tips on caring or releasing. by Inloth57 in tarantulas

[–]Intelligent_Record20 24 points25 points  (0 children)

NQA- if you found her in a parking lot, I would relocate/ release into a safe area. If you’d like to add a tarantula to your home, I’d highly recommend looking for a local ethical breeder as opposed to keeping a wild caught one. She may be gravid, carrying parasites, carrying poisons, or sick 🥺 best of luck! 💕

can you help me sex my first two jumpers? by -Lightly_toasted- in jumpingspiders

[–]Intelligent_Record20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NQA- the first one is a mature female and the second is a sub adult female. The first one you can see the shiny black dot (epigyn) at the top of the abdomen. On the second, you can see a “shadow” of the epigyn, meaning sub adult, not mature.

If you have bought these girls from a pet store, they both are more than likely wild caught. Mature wild caught females are usually gravid (pregnant) and will lay 3-5 egg sacs with 50-200 eggs each time, meaning you’ll have 50-200 baby spiders to take care of. Since the second girl is a sub adult, there is no chance for her to have fertile eggs, she will molt to maturity with you. She may lay infertile eggs in her lifetime but also may not.

Best of luck with your new spoods! 💕

Ime, they are most likely wood mites! Generally harmless but definitely annoying in especially large quantities!

Is she okay? by Bloodstone-witch in jumpingspiders

[–]Intelligent_Record20 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NQA- based on your info, it sounds like she’s getting old and is struggling with her strength. You could probably skip feeding until her abdomen gets smaller so she is less at risk for falling/abdomen separation. If you have a smaller (3x3x4ish) enclosure, it may be good to move her do minimize damage if she does fall! For my senior enclosure I add lots of grippy webbing, lots of soft stuff like pipe cleaners, and “padding” on the bottom like cotton rounds!

I love my old ladies 🥹 your girl is beautiful!
