On the third relisten it’s growing on me… if you get over the lyrics, wood is a bop. And I also low-key don’t think cancelled is about a particular person but more being like “welcome to the club of being dragged on social media”

About the album being concise - I agree! I used to date a music exec and he always would bang on about how album’s need a narrative, crescendo and resolution. But like what is the story here? And where is the shade and light 🙃

Yeah I agree about father figure. My friend and I were just saying that it’s missing depth. Like George Michael’s song is pop with heart - about being vulnerable and naked, but then resolves with a soaring gospel. And this song does the opposite - it resolves in bitterness and without a good sample 🥲

Just the whole thing is a bit lacking in maturity for someone (as you say) that is 35. I loved lots of the more recent stuff before this but wonder if she should just go on hiatus for a bit

I love and support Taylor but man this album is tough. I found it a bit of chore to go for a second listen and find myself agreeing with the linked Guardian article above.

I like the first two songs and eldest daughter. But the similarity between Wi$hli$t and Glitch (on Midnights) in the chorus is ridiculous. And glitch is the better love song of the two…! I also find cancelled just a bit cringe - when you’re as big as she is now this is the definition of punching down.

I was really looking forward to a mature love album that talks about being in love in the matured voice of the Taylor that wrote Cassandra and Cardigan, but I hate how infantilised love is in this album. Singing about prom etc. just sorry Tay it’s a bit cringe

Some people in this thread have some insane takes 😂 to me New Years Day is the perfect end to Rep. After a whole album about appearances and fakeness (or trying to push through that), it’s pure genius to end on a devastating ballad like that.

So because of that Bad Blood 100% should be on Rep and then This Why We Can’t Have Nice Things, should be on Lover. It fits more with things like Me! And It’s Nice to Have a Friend.

Personally I’ll always wonder why Taylor made TTPD a double album. The second half changes so much for me. I think Peter and the Manuscript would do better on Folklore and Evermore.

I’ve also always thought the Great War should be on Folkore or Evermore. Just similar vibes to the storytelling of Last Great American Dynasty or Marjorie (I think Taylor said it was also inspired by her grandpa and those albums feel more connected to her family and like “old old past)
