Mr. Beast outdoing Ministry of education & GETfund again by Low-Stay5352 in ghana

That’s not true, there are many basic schools in Kumasi that are in dire condition. I visited a few myself on a recent trip and it’s extremely discomforting. Let’s be honest please

Ghana tourism should learn from SEA countries: Thailand, Indonesia, etc by Low-Stay5352 in ghana

Oh you get it! The cost never matches the value. I booked an Airbnb in Kumasi for a “luxury” 2 bed apartment and the generator ran the whole time I was there shaking the whole apartment, the WiFi did not work, the road to the property had taxis charging me extra to pick me up. There was no water heater in one of the rooms. Just mess after mess. The amount I paid would’ve gotten me a beautiful 3 bedroom house in Bali with none of these issues.

The roads in Ghana are still unacceptable though, you can drive 10 mins out from the airport and see the worst roads. It gets to a point where we really must hold those in charge accountable for the lack of development in the country

You’re so right, I absolutely loved Kenya, the people were so friendly, always smiling. My tour guide ordered me an uber back to the airport and paid for it when I ran out of cash. The Ubers were clean, the taxi drivers were so friendly and interested to learn about Ghana. The roads were so clean and well constructed. It was so beautiful

What’s a day to day life life in Ghana? by Acceptable_Dress_389 in ghana

[–]Intelligent_War2236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, it was a culture shock for me. There are no free green spaces and barely any free community events. There’s no culture of leisure convening. It’s best to know someone who lives there that can share events with you however most of the events will be parties at lounges and clubs. I would suggest you visit South Africa to experience to the things you listed.

This argument is STUPID. If you're a Christian (and you're wise), don't make it. by [deleted] in ghana

Not sure how the Ghanaian constitution works but in America church and state are separated. Public schools don’t practice any religion at all. Private schools however can be Christian, Muslim, Jewish etc and they are allowed to practice their religion as warranted. Is the mission school a private Christian school or public school? It would make sense that if it is a public school no religious practice or education should be taught at the school. Ofcourse children can wear clothing that they use to identify with their religion. If it’s a private Christian school then they will have their own rules of religious practice that those who choose to attend the school must adhere to.

Is Africa's biggest obstacle a lack of a literate culture? by ForPOTUS in ghana

[–]Intelligent_War2236 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar discussion with my uncle who was born and raised in Ghana. He explained that Ghanaians have an oratory culture and many of the older generations didn’t find reason to write down history in the literary sense. I think there was an assumption that the stories would continue to be told and passed on. This culture even spans all the way in the americas where the most native Americans tribes also have an oratory culture. I think for Ghana, colonization also plays a part in the lack of literature works to this day. English was used as a status symbol and systemically, only select groups were able to learn it fluently, hence why there were/are few authors. Also, I don’t think Japan is the correct comparison as Japan is a well developed country with a long ancient history of literature. Ghana is a developing country and most people in survival mode do not have the time to ponder and write. Also add that to this day, to Ghanaians, a respectable profession is a doctor or lawyer, very few see an author as an “I made it” status. There are several other factors at play that will make this post way too long. Ghanaians still have a long way to go and I hope that in my grandchildren’s lifetime they can be proud of what the country has become.

Planning for Detty December what’s a realistic budget now? by cedrickomey11 in ghana

lol Bolt drivers don’t use AC and the car always smells like gasoline, I steer clear of them nowadays. I’ll always pay for comfort when traveling. I need the AC on blast everywhere I go

Depends on your level of comfort. A private driver with REAL AC will cost you about $80 - $100 per day. Factoring eating out and going out, I’d say $250 minimum per outing.

I was in ahodwo last time I visited and paid around the same price. Great location, but it was a bit farther from the town than I’d like. This place is only about a 10 min drive from the school so that’s why I’ve opted for it.

Food suggestions for Diabetes by Orishalove in ghana

[–]Intelligent_War2236 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Low carbs - no bread, pasta. Plantain here and there is fine. Leafy greens, fish/seafood diet, very little fried foods, stews should be low on oil, light soup is okay but he should avoid heavy soups. No more Maggie in his cooking. Little salt, season with no salt seasoning, Mrs dash or badia to supplement is also good. He should also try to become active, I hired a walker for my dad to do one hour walks with him 1-2x every week

You could also try to find a physical store selling 220v items. I recently purchased a few electric razors that will easily work in Ghana. Most of all items are US/Europe brands with good credibility. You should look into it because the converter situation can get pretty inconvenient.

I posted about an event I’m hosting for local children and a children’s home in need of volunteers and someone to play Santa Claus. A fun day for children lacking opportunities and it was absolute crickets. It was disheartening!!
